There were notable snubs again this year and the most popular movie always wins. Still, quibbles aside, Lion is a great film
A long time before any of the guests at last night’s Aacta awards donned their Sunday best and walked the red carpet, everybody knew which film would win the lion’s share of awards, “Lion” being the operative word – the title, of course, of the director Garth Davis’s moving drama about an Indian-born Australian man who tracked down his estranged family through Google Earth.

From approximately minute three, Kingsman: The Golden Circle bolts out of the gate, relentlessly so. Things pick right up on Eggsy (an ever-boring Taron Egerton) as he emerges from the namesake tailor shop in his Sunday best, only to be confronted by ex-Kingsman hopeful Charlie (Edward Holcroft). Before even having a beat to remember who the hell Charlie is, he’s thrust upon viewers — sporting a cartoonish robotic arm — in a taxi chase scene that’s shot so abrasively it reminds you immediately of the proper action directing this franchise lacks. This sequence, among others that follow, is driven by the sheer teenage, video game junkie sensibility that seems inherent in the worse half of Matthew Vaughn’s filmography. At the very least, by throwing it at you from Jump Street, Vaughn has the decency to prepare you for the loud and plastic bullshit he and co-scribe Jane Goldman will...

The uncanny Georges Franju strikes again, in an Agatha Christie-like thriller imbued with his special mood, the eerie music of Maurice Jarre and some great actors including Jean-Marie Trintignant, Pierre Brasseur, Dany Saval, Marianne Koch and Pascale Audret. If mood is the key, then Franju has found an ideal setting, a beautifully preserved castle in Brittany.

Talk about the look of the love! With less than two weeks left until the big day, Pippa Middleton and fiancé James Matthews were spotted over the weekend with nothing but big heart eyes for one another.
The almost-betrothed couple attended church service in London with friends. Middleton was the picture of spring elegance in a pink and cream Hoss Intropia jacquard coat over a nude dress, accessorizing with the same shade pumps and a pink clutch. As for Matthews, he looked his Sunday best in a tailored navy suit, light blue tie, and black cap toe oxfords.

Fashion is currently in the midst of a major ’90s style revival, from the flatform shoes, to the floor-grazing dusters paired with increasingly tiny crop tops, and the ubiquitous choker. Although for many of us who actually lived through that decade, this trend can bring back some difficult memories of butterfly clips and body glitter gone awry, nonetheless the fad shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. And while the rest of the world may be trying to keep up with her, Kim Kardashian is nothing if not one to keep up with the Joneses. So naturally, her latest...

In its most profound moments, “Saturday Church” follows its searching young protagonist, Ulysses (Luka Kain) at the slightest remove, mirroring the distance he puts between himself and the world. It’s a place that’s been unkind to this soft-hearted teen who sneaks away from his father’s wake to try on a pair of strappy red heels, cracking the faintest smile as he holds them up to his grey Sunday best. Stepping into the shoes ever so gingerly, Ulysses wobbles briefly before admiring his reflection in the mirror. It’s a quiet moment, almost sacred, and one anyone who has ever furtively raided a parent’s closet will recognize.

This much we know after two years in Minnesota: Choosing to embark on a new season of “Fargo” is akin to inviting tragedy unto yourself. Each year, the opening disclaimer originated by the Coen Brothers in their 1996 film promises bodies: “This is a true story… At the request of the survivors… Out of respect for the dead…” And each year we’ve come to love and lose characters within a very short amount of time. You know what you’re getting yourself into, even if — like the UFOs in Season 2 — you can never predict exactly what you’ll see.

Kendall Jenner is capturing her Sunday best on Instagram: gravity-defying low-rise denim—its waistband teeming with ruffles!—and a midriff-baring tee.

It's always useful to have a varied selection of ties in your wardrobe, and here's a new way to let your geek flag fly (with subtlety and class) at the office. ThinkGeek is selling a Star Wars-themed pin dot tie complete with Death Stars and Tie Fighters frozen in a sea of red space, and it's made of 100% silk. This officially-licensed piece looks pretty slick to me, and again, it's a nice way to class up your tie collection while not dipping into territory so ridiculous that you'd be embarrassed to wear it.
When you dress up in your Imperial best you want to have somewhere to be. You can't just look this fancy and do nothing but sit in your living quarters. No, no. You've got people to impress - hopefully Lord Vader because we aren't a fan of being on his bad side. Doesn't end well most days.

Better the Devil You Know: Eggers’ Debut Marinates with Menace
Easily the most profoundly unnerving film to play at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, the directorial debut of Robert Eggers is a historical horror film set in 1630 New England, predating the infamous Salem Witch Trials, one of this young country’s earliest grotesque evil chapters. But unlike, say, the dramatic sensation of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Eggers’ makes The Witch an odd mixture of fanatical religious paranoia and actual supernatural horror, which creates a fascinating, successful hybrid. Much has been made of the film’s close attention to period detail, enriching the climate as the film slowly tightens into a constricted trap, but impressive performances and just the right touch of the otherworldly make this infectiously effective.

Wearing jeans to church? "No Doubt" about it! Heading to a Sunday service, Gwen Stefani took detour from her usual rocker chic style with a more conservative (yet still enviable) ensemble. Now let's pray that this outfit doesn't break the bank. The blond donned a pair of distressed Dsquared2 jeans, which fit the bill for Stefani's Sunday best look. And speaking of "bill," these trousers certainly don't come cheap at a whopping $545 a pair. On top, the 45-year-old opted for a heart print Saint Laurent blouse, which is lovely—save for the $950 price tag. Ouch! Incorporating a few of pieces from her own successful line into the look, The Voice judge opted for...

So lifelike! David Schwimmer was snapped on set of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson looking like the spitting image of Robert Kardashian Sr., along with child actors who similarly look almost identical to kids Kourtney, Khloe, Kim, and Rob Kardashian on Wednesday, July 15. Wearing a pink button-down under a suit jacket, Schwimmer was dressed in Kardashian Sr.’s Sunday best, with the child stars playing the girls dressed sweetly with bows in their hair and skirts and dresses. Rob’s character opted for khakis and [...]...

Drake has a very nice life. He's a super successful rapper. He has a (kind of new) amazing body. And he has a giant mansion called The Yolo Estate where he throws totally insane pool parties. Wimbledon is also great. It features the best tennis players in the world. Attendees get to laze around in their Sunday best in a beautiful country club setting. There are Pimm's Cups and champagne with strawberries. So it would only make sense that if you are Drake and you are at Wimbledon, life literally could not be better, right? Wrong. Life is not great for Drake at Wimbledon right now; life is very, very sad. And how do we know this? There is visual evidence. The rapper is currently across the...

Growing up not too far from Colorado City in a small town in Southern Utah, polygamists (members of the Fundamentalists of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) were not an out of the ordinary sight. You’d find them occasionally in town wearing with the women wearing the pioneer dresses and the boys dressed in their Sunday best, each person wearing the signature polygamist hairstyle of a poof and a braid. There was always this “otherness” quality about them though, when you’d see one you’d ask friends if they had seen them too. It was only as we grew older that we would learn about the horror of the church and how evil of a person Warren Jeffs was. Plenty of people do crazy things when they think God is on their side, but Jeffs...

“There’s now a Johnny Depp film on the books that makes ‘Transcendence’ look like an infinitely better night at the movies,” one critic wrote
Johnny Depp is poised to underwhelm at the box office for the fourth time in a row when “Mortdecai” hits theaters this weekend. And it’s no surprise: critics hate it.

One of cinema’s preeminent magicians welcomes us with his trademark corpulence and pastiched cigar to the Idfa at Amsterdam in a selection entitled Framing. A self-confessed charlatan making a film about yet another self-contained charlatan, Orson Wells takes immense pleasure in 1973’s F for Fake reminding us that film is by nature trickery whilst hoodwinking us one more time (but gently, a fatherly sort of magician—showing us shot, impossible counter-shot, whilst winking mischievously into the camera). F for Fake is an odd choice for a selection which is, to quote the guide, “investigating the borders between fiction and documentary,” since the film admits no such borders, and for Wells any film base enough to insist on its own reality is the most insupportable form of charlatanry (witness his childlike glee at elbow-jabbing the experts every time forger extraordinaire Elmyr Dehory pulls a fast one on a gallerist).

It opens in 2 days, in a limited release, on 19 screens across the country... here's Nijla's review from AFI, if you missed it... In any historical record, there's an official narrative and a human narrative. The human narrative in Ava DuVernay’s epic film "Selma," shows us four little girls dressed in their Sunday best, talking about hairstyles when their bodies are blown away in an explosion of fire and hate. This scene establishes the severity of white supremacist violence in America at this time, just a year before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would win the Nobel Peace Prize. We get it. Being a celeb means you're constantly followed by a string of paparazzi looking to catch you in a hot mess moment. And yet for some A-listers, there is no happy medium between being dressed to the nines and slummin' it. Take Taylor Swift, for example. The girl goes to the gym in a better Sunday best than most people pull out for Easter! But the "Shake It Off" singer is not alone in this high style obsession. Miranda Kerr never leaves the house looking less than fashion shoot-ready, Victoria Beckham clearly assumes she's shooting a James Bond movie, and even Jessica Alba's casual clothes are too cute! We commend these stars for putting so much effort into their everyday...

This is anything but "normcore"—leave it to Olivia Palermo to make a loose sweater and baggy pants look chic! The newlywed and trendsetter, 28, was spotted on Sunday, Aug. 3, in a super-casual (gasp!) outfit. Palermo wore a roomy V-neck sweater with navy track pants and Nike shoes while walking her dog in Brooklyn, N.Y. Known for her uncanny ability to mix prints, The City alum's Sunday best is a stark departure from her usual polished ensemble. But, since this is Palermo, even her weekend style is pulled [...]...

Some style combos make so little sense that they somehow end up working. We're just not sure Olivia Wilde's crazy patterned pieces qualify... We can't decide if she looks like a Harry Potter fan girl in her Sunday best (the maroon and gold stripes are uncanny) or a picnic bound beauty who forgot her real top (and threw on her Harry Potter shirt). And yet, something about the Stella McCartney look is incredibly eye-grabbing. The deep blue florals on the bottom contrast the more fall feel of the shades on this new mom's shirt. Same goes for the shape of the top and bottom. The fitted t-shirt style is perfect against the flowy handkerchief skirt. And we would wear that wide nautical belt with every look...

We talk to Jonathan Glazer, the director of Sexy Beast, Birth, and now, the terrifying, fascinating Under The Skin...
There are many, many unforgettable images in Under The Skin - the first among them being the sight of Scarlett Johansson wearing a black wig, fur coat and heavy lipstick, driving a Ford Transit van around Glasgow in search of men. Why is this alien femme fatale with a cut-glass British accent hunting males in the middle of Scotland? You'll have to watch director Jonathan Glazer's film to find out.
It's the loose adaptation of Michel Faber's novel of the same name, and Glazer's film actually looks and sounds like an artefact from another planet. Yet the director himself, whose previous films include the fabulous Sexy Beast and Birth, is entirely down-to-earth, thoughtful and articulate.

South By Southwest has been full of slow-burn horror this year, creating a pattern of early calms followed by short bursts of pandemic horror – some good, some bad. Film festivals aren’t meant for routines though, they’re meant to be places where a large variety of genre insanity can be found, insanity exactly like Stage Fright. Think The Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Friday the 13th, with ample doses of Dimebag Darrell level shreddage, and you’ve got the formula for a face-melting horror musical ripe with infectious energy and deadly sing-alongs. It’s a rare treat when a horror film can have me smiling from start to finish, but a continually inviting rock opera drenched in blood and littered with guts? That’s an event I’d put on my Sunday best for.

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.
Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.
"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.
