Cult director Albert Pyun continues to revisit his past titles. Last year Pyun released Tales Of An Ancient Empire, a sequel to his 1982 debut The Sword And The Sorcerer, and he is now gearing up production on Cyborgs: Rise Of The Slingers. A prequel to Pyun's director's cut of the 1989 Jean Claude Van Damme star vehicle, Cyborgs is written by Cynthia Curnan and will cover the origins of this post-apocalyptic culture.Shooting now in Las Vegas, Pyun promises a summer completion and has released a brief promo to show what he's up to....

Though it’s unfair for a critic to say a film is worse than another purely because it had a smaller budget, Tales of an Ancient Empire (aka Abelar: Tales of an Ancient Empire) looks less like a professionally produced film and more like a project made on a rented set the size of a small bedroom by a director who overindulged themselves with Adobe After Effects to make up the difference. Structurally and technically, Tales of an Ancient Empire deserves even more criticism for dividing its story into nonsensical vignettes where characters emote at a sub-Soap Opera quality as their lines compete to be heard through bad audio effects and over a loud soundtrack. Tales of an Ancient Empire is virtually unwatchable unless you’re really hungry for a few moments of fantasy-themed nudity, and even then the bad audio distracts you. “Hey, boobs- Wait, is she speaking English?...

Albert Pyun's long gestating Tales of an Ancient Empire has been picked up for distribution by Liongate, but apparently the version we'll all be able to see starting January 24th isn't exactly the director's own vision for the film so he's decided to release the first 18 minutes of his cut for comparison's sake. Check it out!
Synopsis:
The sword and sorcery epic, written by Cynthia Curnan, tells the story of a princess forced on a quest to recruit the greatest warriors of the ancient world to save her kingdom from a demonic sorceress. But the odyssey to find them reveals a secret past for all.
Michael Pare plays "Oda", father of Kevin Sorbo's character - Aedan - as well as Victoria Maurette's Kara (via Whitney Able's Xia - the vampire sorceress). He also fathers Princess Tanis (Melissa Ordway) and Rajan (Janelle Taylor) amongst others. The film...

Director Albert Pyun dropped us a line this week to show off the inked artwork (by Rob E. Brown) for his upcoming film Red Moon, which he describes as a post-apocalyptic fantasy with lots of violence and creatures. Read on for more details!
Pyun expects to wrap the film, co-written by Cynthia Curnan and Randall Fontana, by November 24th. It marks his third collaboration with Fontana. Curnan also produces. The shoot will take place entirely in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the film has been already picked up for North America release by Wrekin Hill in the late spring 2012.
Red Moon serves as a sequel of sorts to the filmmaker's Tales of an Ancient Empire. Pyun tells us, "For Red Moon I took the sword and sorcery world into a post-apocalyptic world, a similar world to my Cyborg. So its grittier and darker. The idea is it's 20 years after Tales ends,...

In promotion of its festival run, we've nailed down the first bit of nifty character art by Rob E. Brown from Albert Pyun's latest film Tales of an Ancient Empire. Dig on the eye candy below!
The flick stars Michael Pare, Kevin Sorbo, Victoria Maurette, Melissa Ordway, Janelle Taylor, Cazzy Golomb, Sasha Mitchell, Olivier Gruner, Norbert Weisse, and Scott Paulin.
"Mainly, I know the film is unique as we've strived the past three years to create something different and a bit off the wall," says Pyun. "It's certainly an original and twisted take on the sword and sorcerer genre."
The next screenings for Tales of an Ancient Empire will be at Combat Con in Las Vegas - June 25 at 7:30 Pm at the Tuscany Hotel, then it begins rolling out across North America (with confirmed stops in Honolulu, Southern California, Detroit, San Francisco, Louisville - FrightNight Fest, and B...

Many things are happening for Albert Pyun's latest film Tales of an Ancient Empire, and they are all good. The flick has landed some new players, some new eye candy, and even some solid distro. Read on for the details.
In terms of casting Pyun dropped the following on us:
Michael Pare plays "Oda", father of Kevin Sorbo's character - Aedan - as well as Victoria Maurette's Kara (via Whitney Able's Xia - the vampire sorceress). He also fathers Princess Tanis (Melissa Ordway) and Rajan (Janelle Taylor) amongst others. The film is about how Oda's womanizing has created both the extreme good and evil in the world. And how parental abandonment colors each character's life and behavior. And Sorbo's character - Aedan - has a child with his half-human/half-vampire half-sister Kara - Hekate - played by newcomer Cazzy Golomb. Hekate narrates Tales and becomes one...

Even back in the day Marvel was tryinig to get some of its titles out in movie form but wasn't successful. There's been a Punsher that starred Dolph Lundgren and even a Fantastic 4 movie that was so cheesy it got shelved and has never seen the light of day and we also had a Captain America movie that will finally be getting a Director's Cut on blu-ray in May.
Director Albert Pyun says that the film once had a huge budget and the n the backers backed out and the film had to be finished on a shoe string budget. Pynn is going to ride the coat tails "so-to-speak" with the big screen release of Captain America and his recent Director's Cut release of Cyborg.
Here's what Pynn is describing his cut as;
It will be based on "my own 35 mm CA work picture and temp mix [that] I did before I left [the] picture.

Forget Tron: Legacy, one of my most anticipated sequels to be released this year is the (very) long-awaited sequel to 1982’s The Sword and the Sorceror, Tales of an Ancient Empire.
Directed by Albert Pyun, the film stars Christopher Lambert, Melissa Ordway, Kevin Sorbo, Lee Horsley, Victoria Maurette, and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and follows a princess (Ordway) on a quest to unite the five greatest warriors to save her kingdom from a demon sorceress. For some the Easter holiday was a time of work, not hunting for chocolate eggs and bunnies, and one such individual is director Albert Pyun, who dropped us a line over the weekend with an update on his Tales of an Ancient Empire along with a batch of new stills.
According to Pyun, "All the shooting is now finished, and here are some new stills. The first is from one of the last shoots with Victoria Maurette ("Kara") and Jessica Delgado ("Levana"). This is a set still and not how the scene looks in the movie, but it's pretty cool. Second is a green screen shot of the three primary assassins after Sorbo and company. It's not composited yet but is still a nice visual. Next is Dernier (Xavier Declie) being seduced by Kara. This is followed by Delgado as Levana, Maurette's Kara being turned, and finally, Maurette in full vampire assassin mode.

Albert Pyun is extremely happy with how his sword and sorcery epic, Tales of an Ancient Empire, is shaping up. Below are some words he recently published on his official site:
"It’s clear to me that Tales of an Ancient Empire is by far the best film I have ever made. Yeah, I know I’ve said that before because each film I’ve made had some aspect, maybe it was a performance, a camera move, a turn of character, but there was always something, some moment, big or small that made it my best at the time. But looking at Tales from all sides and being as objective as I can possibly be, each moment of the film, consistently represents my best work.
How I know this as being true is that it doesn’t even seem like one of my films. No moment of cringe; no lapse in logic or sanity,...

Director Albert Pyun sent us over a peek at some new teaser art for his forthcoming Tales of an Ancient Empire featuring its newest co-star, Victoria Maurette, who portrays a daywalking vampire assassin in the film.
Never one to shy away from graphic sex and violence, Pyun promises the following from Maurette's character: "Victoria is really playing a different vampire -- a creature who is aroused by perverse violence and is sexually gratified by inflicting ritualistic torture on her victims.
I don't think there's been a more frightening character in fantasy films. She's not a villain; she's a psychotic and depraved killer."

Not having any confirmation, we waited to hear more, which everyone did when Scream writer Kevin Williamson debunked the rumor as follows: "What is this Scream 4 in 3D? First I heard of it." Then, an hour later came, "Guys? Really? 3D? Nahhhhh." Hopefully he won't be pressured into changing his tune. We have enough 3D projects floating around out there already, right?

A demon sorceress and her vampires ... heroes ... villains. Plus gore, blood, and naked damsels. A typical weekend in DC's offices? Maybe, but it's also what we were promised by Albert Pyun as filming of his Sword and the Sorcerer follow-up, Tales of an Ancient Empire, progressed. Last we heard of the production, they were "almost at the stretch run" and awaiting Christopher Lambert's arrival to shoot the finishing shots.
Pyun describes Tales as a stylistic fusing of old fashion adventure films with contemporary horror and action. The fighting style is very Kali, fast, vicious, on close. This instead of the traditional sword action where there are a number of broad sword strokes. Sorbo and Lambert will bring a ton of humor. The vampire/dark sorcery element is very disturbing and horrific...but hopefully in a fun way. Cynthia [Curnan]'s screenplay has done a nice job of blending these elements.

The updates from Albert Pyun’s sequel to classic 80s fantasy film The Sword And The Sorcerer were coming fast and furious for a little while there and while it’s been a little while since we’ve heard from the set they’re back today with some fresh images, including what must be one of the more anticipated ones. No, it’s not a Christopher Lambert sighting - the Highlander star is apparently scheduled for the end of the shoot - but it Is Lee Horsley, the star of the original film reprising his character here as he passes the torch, as it were, on to the star of this new adventure. You can check all the images at the link below!

Yes, this is two Tae posts in a row, a situation I generally try to avoid, but I’m afraid if I just update the previous one people accessing the site via RSS may miss the update. Because it’s a big one.
It’s major short notice but director Albert Pyun will be hosting a live webcast from the set of the film in roughly one hour. The reason? Today is the day that The Sword and the Sorcer star Lee Horsely arrives on set to shoot his part in the sequel and Lee will be both saying hello to fans and passing the torch, as it were, to Melissa Ordway, who takes over the lead in this film. And, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few other surprises in store.
The webcast begins at 4:30 Pm Pacific Time, which is almost exactly an hour from now.

Yes, we’ve got yet more images from the ongoing production of Albert Pyun’s sequel to The Sword and the Sorcerer, Tales of An Ancient Empire. What’s new this time? More shots of All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Whitney Able as the sorceress Xia - and the betting money is that when Pyun talks about this movie having plenty of nudity that Able is going to be among those naked - as well as the first shot of German strongman Ralf Moeller as the General and Jennifer Seibel-Newsom - aka the current first lady of San Francisco - as the Queen.
Here’s how Pyun first desribed the film to us:
It’s got a sexy sorceress, hordes of demonic vampires, a giant serpent, sea pirates, nasty sword (and axe, spear, leg of cow) fights and gore and nudity galore. Everything that a rousing adventure needs to have.
