Bad apples...
Foreverisacastironmess12327 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a really quick tale of one very unfortunate little boy's miserable Halloween Night which turns deadly as, after being robbed of all his candy by teenage bullies, he chooses the worst kind of candy apple to take from outside of a foreboding house, and after eating the tainted fruit which is filled with razor blades, little Joey then suffers a most slow and agonising death, and then it's revealed that his parents later killed themselves out of grief - Christ, right!?! It starts out mildly and ends on such a crazy cruel note! It's a lot more nastier and ruthless a yarn than it first seems, beginning in an almost whimsical style and accelerating till by the creepy end you're scratching your head thinking what the heck? And I rather like that. It's very simple and flashes by as it's really short but it was well-crafted and the story is told in a very distinctive and charming way as everything is spoken in a rhyming verse which I thought gave it a nice fable-like quality, and also there was a strange numerical style in the way the events are described. I find it more satisfying than a lot of the Halloween-themed horror shorts that are out there. The gag of the twisted deadly candy was a lot like that of another short named "Making Friends", which uses the same gruesome plot-device, but in a very different way. So for what this is it's a very good and worthwhile short that takes you on a little journey of sorts, and one that's got a good hefty shock at the end. Way to go, Joe!!
