Neither Funny nor Dramatic
claudio_carvalho23 February 2010
In São Paulo, the lawyer Thales (Marcos Palmeira) has been married with the wealthy and spoiled Renata (Mariana Ximenes) for ten years. Her father Augusto (Antônio Fagundes) is a powerful and amoral businessman that gave an excellent job position to his son-in-law in a law firm. Thales best friend is Rui (Otávio Muller), who is married with Pâmela (Maria Luísa Mendonça) and has three children and tells everybody that his wife is a dumb person. During a weekend in the countryside of São Paulo in the fancy mansion of Renata, Thales has a breakdown and decides to quit working and stay in the house with Pâmela and her children. Renata and Rui that are lovers for more than ten years travel together back to São Paulo to have wild and kinky sex. Meanwhile Thales gets close to Pâmela and they have one night stand. Renata and Rui return to the house and she lies to Thales, telling that Rui brought her from the office of Augusto. When Augusto calls Thales from New York, he discovers that Renata is lying and discloses her love affair with Rui.

"A Mulher do Meu Amigo" is an amoral story with a great potential that unfortunately is neither funny nor dramatic. The screenplay is awful, without development of the characters, and the direction of Cláudio Torres is lost, never deciding whether the genre is a comedy or a drama. The result shows erotic situation without nudity; non-funny jokes; and shallow dramatic situation. My vote is five.

Very bad movie, it tries to be a comedy and other times a drama and it turn out to be a waste of time

This movie is very bad, he is officially a drama-comedy, but it's neither funny and a joke as a drama movie, also if anyone goes to see this movie expecting to see a naked Mariana Ximenes, think again, this movie doesn't have any nudity, she is not even sexy, and the other actress, Maria Luisa Mendonça, isn't even remotely sexy, she has a diseased look.

The story is very rushed and forced, the characters extremely poorly built, and totally cliché and the ending predictable, the only sort of good thing is Otavio Muller, who manages to do a good work, even with a poor script.

I rate this 2/10.
