In 2007, Will Ferrell went viral when he staged a joke conversation with his daughter. One decade later, the company introduced through that clip, Funny or Die, is celebrating its tenth birthday, and it remains a respected comedy brand in the digital video space.
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (whose directorial credits include Anchorman and The Big Short), and screenwriter Chris Henchy launched Funny or Die on April 12, 2007. “The Landlord,” in which McKay’s then-20-month-old daughter Pearl delivers a profanity-laced tirade to Ferrell, served as the site’s first video. It ended up becoming a massive hit, and it currently has more than 85 million total views. We have no word on whether Ferrell ended up paying his rent.
Bolstered by the success of “The Landlord,” Funny or Die spent the next decade living up to its name, often with the help of celebrities. The company’s most popular program, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis,...

Sometimes 10-year-olds know what's best - for movie audiences, that is. While The Big Short director Adam McKay deserves much of the credit for his film's Screen Actor's Guild and Oscar-nominated success - particularly the way in which he cleverly presented the complicated story of the 2008 financial crisis to general audiences - McKay's younger daughter Pearl played a key role in the film's development. Yes, that Pearl, the adorable cursing toddler from McKay and Will Ferrell's viral Landlord video on their website, FunnyOrDie. Funny of Die production president Mike Farah may be the least famous key executive at Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s multi-platform content company, but he’s played an integral role in delivering digital laughs. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native and University of Indiana Business School graduate moved to Los Angeles 13 years ago and came to Funny Or Die in 2008, a year after the debut of Ferrell and McKay’s landmark sketch “The Landlord” — which clocked-in as a definite turning point for the business of online comedy with a legitimate movie star (Ferrell) doing providing original online content. “We hit our stride.

Nearly 10 years ago the world was introduced to a stately San Di-ago news anchor who prefers the aroma of rich mahogany and has a healthy taste for scotch (scotchy scotch scotch). Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released on July 9, 2004, proving that Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell could carry a movie, and modern moviegoers enjoy fight sequences that reference West Side Story.
The film largely introduced audiences to Steve Carell, arriving just before NBC’s The Office, and featured an entire subplot starring Maya Rudolph that never made it to the big screen. With the sequel currently in theaters–and promising cameos from the likes of Drake and Kanye West–we felt it was only right to look back on how far the core cast has come, as well as the film’s overall influence on pop culture to date. You know what that means…

Since launching in 2006 the comedy video website Funny or Die has been slowly working its way up to television and film. The site was founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company and the two funny men have released some pretty hilarious stuff on the site, including the classic "The Landlord" video featuring McKay's daughter. Funny or Die is going epic with their next project though. It's a miniseries that will begin airing on IFC...

This is another Danny McBride comedic gem that will have you rolling in your seat with laughter.
3. The Landlord (Short)
This video short is what catapulted FunnyOrDie.com into the viral video world and it is a must-watch. It is so funny to see the young girl demanding the money from her tennant played by Will Ferrell.

I’ve got a fever… and the only prescription is more Will Ferrell.
That seemed to be the theme of last night’s airing of Will Ferrell’s Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor award ceremony, where he became the 14th recipient of the prestigious comedy award, joining previous winners such as Tina Fey, George Carlin, and Billy Crystal.
The program featured tributes from tons of Ferrell’s famous friends, including Conan O’Brien, Paul Rudd, and Adam McKay. Many of the stars went for earnest over comical, sharing their favorite memory of Ferrell and then rolling clips from blockbusters such as Anchorman,...

I'll get to the upcoming Entourage movie in a sec, but first let's talk about how Jeremy Piven, despite what he may thinks, isn't the biggest star in his family. Four years ago, Piven's then 2-year-old niece, Pearl McCay, became a viral video phenomenon as Will Ferrell's foul-mouthed landlord in his Funny Or Die short The Landlord. Now 6, Pearl hasn't let Uncle Jeremy forget it... "Pearl says she only takes pictures with celebrities," Piven tells me. "And then she got a picture with Selena Gomez and she told it was because it was her 'destiny.' That's what she told me—her 'destiny!' " So Piven is working overtime to prove himself...

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will present the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to Will Ferrell.
A worthy recipient of the honor, Ferrell’s presence on the cinematic comedy scene over the past few years seems ubiquitous, and has included classics such as “Old School,” “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “Elf” and “Zoolander.” In addition to his big screen efforts, Ferrell began FunnyorDie.com site with Adam McKay (and received many millions of views for their short film “The Landlord”), and then there are his “Saturday Night Live” performances.

Will Farrell's and Adam McKay's new project Bachelorette has the pieces to be quite funny. Anchorman led the way for this actor - director duo, and aside from being one of the most quotable movies in the last ten years, I did not like the movie, it had to grow on my over time. The only other movie the duo has done that gets regular air time in our house is The Landlord. For most people the involvement of these two men alone is the biggest piece of potential this movie has going for it,...

Adam McKay Talks 'The Other Guys' Sequel, Wooing Mark Wahlberg... And Daughter Pearl's Acting Career
When Will Ferrell and Adam McKay team up, it's a pretty safe bet that there'll be a big fat pot of comedy gold at the end of that rainbow. The duo has given movie fans such beloved hits as "Anchorman," "Talladega Nights," "Step Brothers" and this summer's buddy-cop hit "The Other Guys," as well as the game-changing comedy website FunnyOrDie.com, which propelled McKay's young daughter Pearl to stardom with a little viral video sensation called "The Landlord."
With "The Other Guys" DVD and Blu-Ray in stores now, MTV chatted with writer-director McKay about a potential sequel to the film, how he wooed Mark Wahlberg to do a comedy, and why it might be a long time before we see Pearl demand the rent from Will Ferrell.

Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are a powerhouse team of funny. Together, they launched Funny or Die, which was the watershed moment when viral video met Hollywood hilarity. Together, they've gotten actors, actresses, and "personalities" like Paris Hilton to make fun of themselves and each other in. Take the bizarre and hilarious video Forehead Tittaes, which shows Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard donning a pair of prosthetic breasts on her forehead. And talk about kids behaving badly, one of their first videos was "The Landlord," starring Will Ferrell as a tenant behind on his rent and McKay's toddler as a drunk, abusive landlord. That one left us all scratching our heads at the office. Funny or Die even landed its own TV show on HBO, which was a groundbreaking move for the network. (Successful? Tbd. Unique? Yes.)
Together, they've written and produced some of the funniest works in Ferrell's repertoire, making...

Swearing kids and boobie jokes may be the secret to the success of their videos, admitted Funny or Die's CEO Dick Glover and creative director Andrew Steele at SXSW this past weekend, but the smart business model behind them may hold a few secrets to the future of entertainment.
Originally launched as a "hot or not" video site for comedy in 2007, Funny or Die has grown into a multi-media, cross-platform comedy hub with a thriving Web portal and production company--the HBO series, Funny or Die Presents, debuted in February. The next stop is film, starting this summer when the comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of the cult Adult Swim show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! start production on their first feature.
In fact, there is no platform or joke that Funny or Die won't try, said Steele. There's just one rule: It has to be funny.

New York – Will Ferrell and Adam McKay forged their partnership years ago on "Saturday Night Live." Now, in a much different way, the two are back on TV with a sketch comedy show.On Friday at midnight, HBO will premiere "Funny or Die Presents," a new half hour series that compiles clips from the comedy video Web site that McKay and Ferrell co-created in 2007.The show arrives as part of a new batch of HBO comedy. The Friday slate also includes the premiere of "The Ricky Gervais Show," the start of season eight of "Real Time With Bill Maher" and the second season of "The Life and Times of Tim.""Funny or Die Presents" is the fruition of a deal hatched in 2008 between the site and HBO, which purchased a piece of FunnyOrDie.com reportedly in the neighborhood of about $10 million. There's further overlap in that HBO airs the McKay and Ferrell-produced hit "Eastbound & Down,...

On the fourth day of Festivus, TV gave to me... four webby series.
There's probably more original content being created for the internet than there even is for television. A lot of that is your neighbor sitting in his basement in front of his webcam seeing how many croutons he can shove in his mouth in thirty seconds, but there are places to find great original content, many times on par with what you'll see on television.
Syfy's Sanctuary is a show that began as a web series and has since become a successful TV series. But many web series live and thrive on the web, and belong only there.
A lot of our favorite celebrities have turned to this unrestricted format to create gems, like Will Ferrell's modern classic "The Landlord" from a few years back, or even last year's sensational Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog that brought Neil Patrick Harris,...

If you're Adam McKay, you might just love this interview. However, if you're Neal Brennan, you're going to find this interview incredibly boring. If you're not either of these two men, I have no idea what you'll think. I say this because Brennan apparently doesn't like reading other people having fun, and, to be fair, the first four minutes of our conversation were overpowered by a looming discussion of Walt Whitman. For some reason. So as a quick caution to you, dear reader, if you have a problem listening to two creative comedians and one idiot interviewer talk about how flaming a civil war-era poet and thinker was, I'd skip down a few lines and start there. I include a safety page-break so you'll know where the Whitman stuff ends. Also as a caution, we talk about details from the movie, so if you're really sensitive about spoilers, you may want to avoid. Also...

Babelgum continues to build out its push into original web series, announcing a handful of new developments today including a two-year exclusive licensing deal with web comedy powerhouse Funny or Die. As part of the deal, Babelgum is getting the mobile rights to Funny or Die's video content, like its tentpole Will Ferrell The Landlord videos and Good Cop Baby Cop. Kicking that off, Lawson disclosed three new series coming out this summer, all developed with Fuel Industries. Headlining the list is The Sensible Guy's Guide to Travel starring comedian Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall) which premieres next month. The other two are The Carolers and animated series Larry the Labrat. Both “Arrested Development” and “The Jetsons” have big screen adaptations in development, so it may not be so crazy that John Stamos envisions a remake of his classic TV sitcom “Full House” in theaters. The man who was — and for some, always will be — Uncle Jesse already knows what he wants.
“I’m working on a movie idea, but it wouldn’t be us playing us,” Stamos told the New York Daily News. “I see Steve Carell as [Bob Saget's] Danny Tanner and Tracy Morgan as [Dave Coulier's] Joey Gladstone because he’s funny.”
Carell and Morgan are both fine choices, no question. However, as someone who grew up in the Tanner family’s San Francisco living room, I have a few picks of my own in mind who could capably revive “Full House” for an entirely new generation.

Two big A-listers are about to join The B Team! Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have just signed on to play cops in the action comedy directed by Farrell’s writing partner, Adam McKay, who is also the father of the infamous Pearl in the Funny Or Die video, The Landlord. According to Variety, the package was pitched to Sony earlier this week, and they loved it. McKay says, "We have a great relationship with the team at Sony from 'Talledega Nights' and 'Step Brothers' and we couldn't be more excited about doing our next one with them....

In the internet's glacially slow consolidation with television, many stars have been dabbling in recent years with "webisodes"...cheaply produced, clever vignettes designed for viral transmission on Al Gore's Information Highway. Among such online outlets, none have been more successful than "Funny or Die." Created by Will Ferrel and director Adam McKay, the comedy site enjoyed its first success last year with "The Landlord," a short sketch in which a foul-mouthed toddler demands rent payment. During this year's presidential election cycle, the site drew millions of hits with Paris Hilton's rebuttal to Gop candidate John McCain (who, in a cam ...

The comedy website FunnyOrDie started by Will Ferrell and Adam McCay hit it big last year with their now infamous video "The Landlord", where Ferrell is verbally brutalized by his landlord Pearl who also happens to be a toddler. We here at Boosh are huge fans of the site and feel they saw where comedy was headed thanks to the YouTube revolution and grabbed it by the testicles and said "take this, comedy. take this." Or at least that's how I imagine it going in my head. The site has been a new home for web comedy, helping to kick start the careers of comedians like Human Giant, Jon Lajoie, and Lil' O'Reilly.
In another huge leap for the world of online comedy, FunnyOrDie launched their first ever mini-movie last week and already has over 100,000 views. The mock-umentary "The Smallest Cock in Porn: The Don Dolmes Story" spoofing the story of John Holmes.

You could say Liam Sullivan has found his big break. He is, after all, currently on tour opening for Margaret Cho in shows across the country. But that's not how he got famous. No, the 34-year-old comedian found his fame by portraying a teenaged girl named Kelly in a series of wildly popular videos on YouTube. As he sang about shoes and text message breakups, Sullivan was becoming yet another in a line of comedians who have recently made the jump from traditional comedy to the digital world.
Lisa Donovan, another YouTube comedian (who goes by the name LisaNova), earned a spot on "MADtv" after her videos gained attention, and unlikely stars like laughing babies and bored suburban teenagers often find themselves on the site's list of most-viewed videos with their self-made comedy.
"It's kinda cool cause it's not like some company hired me to do this. I came up with it.

Everyone's talking about Paris Hilton's new viral video, mocking John McCain's celebrity campaign ad with her own tongue-in-cheek campaign ad. The men behind the hilarious Hilton spoof ad are none other than producer Chris Henchy and writer/director Adam McKay. If those names sound familiar, it's because Chris is Brooke Shields' husband and a co-producer for "Entourage," and former "Saturday Night Live" writer Adam wrote and directed such Will Ferrell hits as 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,' 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' and 'Step Brothers,' in theaters now. Adam tells "The Insider" that he heard about McCain's ad featuring Paris and Britney Spears on the progressive radio station Air America, and says, "I thought, 'Oh my god, they have to respond; there has to be a rebuttal." A quick call to Paris' agent, and they were talking about the project three hours later.

There's something for everyone this week at the multiplex, what with Carrie and company offering something for the ladies with "Sex and the City," the Tae Kwon Do comedy "The Foot Fist Way" being an alternative for the guys, and "Savage Grace"... well, again, let's just say there's something for everyone.

With everyone from Little League coaches to members of the U.S. Congress weighing in on the issue of performance enhancing drugs in sports, body builder (and former user) Christopher Bell injects his own story into this documentary that explores America's obsession with excellence and what it realistically takes to achieve it. Bell chronicles his own family's history of steroid use as a jumping off point to explore the wider love/hate relationship between professional athletes and performance enhancing drugs in a culture where winning is everything and there are no points for second place.
