It's okay

I will not be showing this to my kids if I have any, it has lots of sass and slightly suggestive jokes. But if you don't mind that stuff, I can see it being super cool to a girl from 7-10 ish.

For the nastolgia affect, it's pretty much how I remember it. I get super bored with old kids movies cause there's not a lot going on. I prefer the kids bratz movies, they're more entertaining.

It's just the way it's written and the poor quality, the story isn't too bad for a kids movie. I find the messages are to encourage girls they can be who they want to be, and not to let others drag them down with their negativity, but the message gets buried by other things. It's hard to explain.

If you're picky with your comfort movies, leave this one as you remember it. It's not worth ruining your perception.

As plastic and artificial as the dolls, but what did you expect? (spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
Four not-at-all stereotypical American teenage girls travel down to jolly ol' England (represented here by the Union Jack, not St George's flag naturally) to start their music careers, all the time pursued by two bimbo twins and their diva boss. Truly outrageous!! Oops sorry, wrong show.

The thing about Jem And The Holograms though, is at least they had some semblance of a personality. As far as I can tell, the big-lipped huge-haired protagonists here are all completely interchangeable, and to compare the villains to the juggernauts that were the Misfits would be an insult to the 80's cartoon.

Speaking of animation: imagine the most ugly Playstation 1 cut scenes you've ever watched. Yep, this is even worse. Running gags include one of the 'enemy' twin girls who's just had a nose job having her hooter constantly smacked, and the other involved in a saga of having her dress perpetually get very dirty. Basically, you get the 'quality' of the humour on offer here.

There's also what could be charitably referred to as songs, which might get toddlers with no critical faculties bouncing around the room. The 'big number' at the end is at least passable, but the rest seem to be what the phrase 'noise pollution' was invented for.

Toy commercials are annoying enough as it is, so do you really want to watch a 70 minute one? Didn't think so. Avoid. 2/10
