When discussing her case with Hirsch at Five-O headquarters, Tani Rey refers to the initiation of the crime as a "robbery" of the house, which then turned into a murder when a housekeeper interrupted the perpetrators. Under the Hawaii Revised Statutes, a house cannot be "robbed" Robbery involves use of force against a person. While the murder converted the initial offense to a robbery, the crime began as a burglary and theft, not robbery. An experienced investigator in an elite statewide major crimes unit would not make such a major error. (This inaccurate reference occurs repeatedly during the course of the series. Danny Williams makes the same error numerous times, despite his experience in two states with virtually identical criminal statutes.)
A lead lined container the size of the one shown, would trigger a "shield" alarm on the checked baggage x-ray machines. This alarm would then be followed by a physical search of the bag to clear the alarm. This bag would therefore never have made it onto the aircraft without the lead lined "item" being opened for inspection to ensure no explosive device was concealed inside, exposing the gems that were being smuggled.
