Disney president Michael Eisner personally called Kathleen Turner to express his love for the pilot, assuring ABC would pick it up, but when the fall schedule was announced a week later, the show wasn't on it. Creator Peter Tolan later remarked that although studio executives were enamored, the show received an unfavorable response at test screenings.
The pilot was reworked and eventually led to the 1998 CBS series of the same name, with Jean Smart in the Kathleen Turner role.
This pilot was shot on Stage 12 at CBS Studio Center on May 3, 1996.
