Liechtenstein is a small German-speaking country in Western Europe; the sixth-smallest country in the world.
Sarah's father, Jack Burton, checks into a hotel under the alias Guido Merkens. Guido Merkens was an NFL football player in the early 80s, who played both offense and defense.
Jack Burton, as played by Gary Cole, is also the name of the character played by Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
The building team Chuck tries to sell the Saudis is referred to a "Nakamichi Plaza", a referece to "Nakatomi Plaza" from the 1988 film Die Hard. In reality, it's the Fox Plaza building in Century City. At first this seems like a coincidence, but in the next episode, "Chuck Versus Santa Claus", Reginald VelJohnson (Sgt. Al Powell) appears in the BuyMore parking lot.
The scene of the hotel concierge with the message calling in the lobby for Mr. Liechtenstein and the reveal of Chuck sitting in a chair with his back to the camera, raising one hand to receive the telegram, is almost a shot for shot tribute to a similar scene in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) where similarly Steve Martin makes up a name of a psychiatrist with a German last name, Schaffhausen, and is revealed that Michael Caine assumes the identity of the made up doctor in the same manner.
