Imagine someone doing a Superman show, only he can't fly (not talking about Smallville). Or Thor without his hammer. Or Spider-Man who can't climb walls or use webs. Or Wonder Woman who has no superhuman strength or lasso to use.
I'm not sure why the writers decided to completely change the abilities of Ms. Marvel. It makes no sense, and they've gone in a completely different direction.
Ms. Marvel has the ability to shape-shift and expand any part of her body. Why is this so hard to do? Ever hear of Mr. Fantastic?! She's also an Inhuman. Okay, if you want to change the backstory and origin, fine--although I don't see why this would be necessary since the Inhuman storyline has already been well established.
Now, you've got Ms. Marvel who uses a bangle to bring out some kind of "light" powers. So, in essence, they've completely changed the character.
It's sad because they have a great cast of actors, especially, Iman Vellani who gives us a charming and realistic teenager trying to navigate her family, spiritual life, friends, and discovery of her new powers.
It's as if the writers never picked up the comic book. The Marvel Universe would look very much different, indeed, had they completely changed all of the core characters of Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and so on. We'd have had a pretty dismal library of films that never would have reached their peak of popularity.
If you don't know the character, then find something else to write. The writers succeeded in one thing: disgracing and disparaging a good and important comic book character. You also do a disservice to those who created the character in the first place!
