The annual St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase is a great way to support the many local filmmakers who practice their art in our area. Cinema St. Louis, our city’s non-profit cinema-related event planning group, will present The Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase July 8-12. This is the 12th annual presentation, which serves as the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists. The Showcase screens works that were written, directed, edited, or produced by St. Louis natives or films with strong local ties. The 16 film programs that screen at the Tivoli from July 8-12 serve as the Showcase’s centerpiece. The programs range from full-length fiction features and documentaries to multi-film compilations of fiction and documentary shorts. Many programs include post-screening Q&As with filmmaker. According to reports, "Dandelion Wine", a 1957 semi-autobiographical novel by author Ray Bradbury, will be developed as a motion picture, with writer Rodion Nahapetov ("Contamination"), attached to adapt a screenplay.
"Dandelion Wine" is is set during the summer of 1928 in the fictional town of 'Green Town', Illinois — a pseudonym for Bradbury's childhood home of Waukegan, Illinois.
The novel developed from the short story "Dandelion Wine" which appeared in the June 1953 issue of "Gourmet" magazine. The title refers to a wine made with dandelion petals and citrus fruit.
In the story, dandelion wine, as made by the protagonist's grandfather, serves as a metaphor for packing all of the events of summer into a single bottle :
"...young 'Douglas Spaulding' knows 'Green Town', Illinois, is as vast and deep as the whole wide world that lies beyond the city limits. It is a pair of brand-new tennis shoes, the first harvest...

Mike Medavoy and Doug McKay are set to produce a film adaptation of classic sci-fi writer Ray Bradbury's 1957 semi-autobiographical work "Dandelion Wine" for Medavoy's Phoenix Pictures says the trades.
Set in 1928, the series of short stories is connected to a 12-year-old boy named Douglas Spaulding as he experiences an unforgettable summer in a small town in Illinois.
Though less outright fantasy or sci-fi than other works of his including "The Martian Chronicles" and "The Illustrated Man", there's still a touch of unreality to it despite its much more personal approach.
Bradbury penned this book between writing two of his most famous works - "Fahrenheit 451" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes".
Rodion Nahapetov ("Contamination") will pen the screenplay.

One of Ray Bradbury's most enduring books, Dandelion Wine is set for a film adaptation, Variety reports. Rodion Nahapetov, the writer, director and star of 2008's Contamination , is attached to provide the screenplay. A loosely connected series of short stories based on Bradbury's childhood in 1928, Dandelion Wine was first published in novel form in 1957. The author's official website offers the following official synopsis: Twelve-year-old Douglas Spaulding knows Green Town, Illinois, is as vast and deep as the whole wide world that lies beyond the city limits. It is a pair of brand-new tennis shoes, the first harvest of dandelions for Grandfather's renowned intoxicant, the distant clang of the trolley's bell on a hazy afternoon. It is yesteryear and tomorrow blended...
