Like a comic book
victoriacanon8926 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie reminded me of a comic book more than a regular movie. It was like watching a comic unfold from scene to scene. When they used the split screens and the wipes it was like out of a graphic novel type of stuff. It just had the general "feel" of a comic book adventure. I was not expecting that.

This is a weird movie. The way they made the movie is a little peculiar in style the way it moved from real to unreal. There are weird angles and jarring edits sometimes. There were some scary scenes here and there. What I liked about it most was that it wasn't trying to be pretentious or more than a nifty B movie pleaser, and it broke some conventions and rehashed some horror movie clichés in its own way.

pleasantly surprised

Warning: Spoilers
This horror flick somehow reminded me of the "Creepshow 2" episode 'Dead Man's Curve" and less, but to a certain degree, "I Know what you did last summer". This film holds up pretty well on its own, though. The story seems to be based on an urban legend where someone finds they accidentally hit a stranger at night and brought them back home to the garage stuck on the bumper and barely alive. I found that whole idea entertaining and scary. This is followed by an attempted murder and revenge.

The acting for a horror film is pretty good. The lead girl Mary and the boyfriend Rick are convincingly authentic, much more than I expected. Kevin Corrigan (from The Departed) plays the twisted bad guy and while I wish there had been more of him, I liked what I saw. He had a certain creepiness that caught me off guard.

All in all, much to my surprise, this little movie offered a lot more than I thought, intense action sequences, some gore, horror, suspense and last but not least, some good dance music.

... Okay fun

Warning: Spoilers
Well, let's say I didn't have much expectation. I wasn't crazy about the trailer. but the film is fairly good.

The story is the bizarre tale of a woman who hit a man with her car and discovered him stuck on her bumper, based on a true story or an urban legend.

The teacher in this case is played by the solid Corrigan, whose teeth give him a feral appearance, and this is his scariest role so far.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lead actress and the events that unfolded. She's doing a fine job and she's pretty sexy. Very natural.

Worth watching, not bad at all for nightmare horror /suspense.

Don't drink and drive folks, there are lunatics you could hit out there!

Interesting story but movie is a little hallucinatory
ballerina19784 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
One thing I did like the way the story took shape based on the accidental hitting of the guy. It was cool the way she took him home the bumper without knowing it. I was totally absorbed in it till she came home somewhere in the middle of the movie. At that point, she starts to have more and more delusions and though they were very vivid, I wasn't sure if what was going on was always real or not and I felt confused. Generally the lead Laura Breckenridge gave a decent indie-type performance as Mary the hit and run perpetrator. Most of the movie she's dressed in skimpy clothing with her cleavage hanging out. But still she managed to come across natural. Kevin Corrigan was not too bad as the hit and run victim-turned-killer. The action picked up mid way through and then it took off with a lot of road stuff. Overall, I'd say it's worth a look if you like the B movie sensationalist films.

Review of Hit and Run

Warning: Spoilers
Hit and Run,

Comedian : Mary Murdock Timothy Emser Rick

Unfortunate situation turns to nightmare.

After she hits, digs and drive away, MARY is living a stressful moment. Shock and stress made her choice fast-decided. Boyfriend is uninterested on what happen. Watching news on missing man for a second time reminds the bad of her did-action. A new damaged car appears at the same place as the hidden body. It seems that the killer wants to play scaring MARY. Killed man friend is sentencing her to revenge him. Story is getting unclear as the missing and dead man reappears at MARY's home. He survived. The image of the good children teacher switches to a zombie dead alive. TIMOTHY EMSER turns to a bad man animated by an unclear affair of letter which his wife has posted. Movie becomes horror genre when TIM kills his wife in front the eyes of her kidnapped. After a subliminal but present moral lesson on drinking and driving, she escapes. She, for the second time, hit him with her car (though deliberately at this time). MARY still keeps the idea of repairing her car front and finish discovered.

Starts good....
dawson19739 March 2009
I think the rating of 5.1 is a fair reflection of this film. Drinking and driving as we all know isn't good. But this is a whole different kinda bad. As previously described - a stalker shocker, which most of the way through I enjoyed but after a while things just didn't make much sense. Where did he come from?? I like these sorta films normally, and to be fair the acting wasn't bad but something just went wrong, maybe I'm being too harsh as there were some good driving sequences (with a twist) and well shot. I didn't expect the ending, but I didn't really care too much by this time, it was a bit like the writers gave up and asked some of his/her kids to help out.

If you like suspenseful horror stalker type films then you may enjoy this, as my partner doesn't and she didn't like this.

A couple of B movie gory bits as well. Not sure how to summarise, make up you own mind.

They call this a hidden gem?!

Warning: Spoilers
How? Why? This was awful. Idiot drunk white girl drives home, gets into an accident, doesn't realize she hit someone until she's at home, then makes every wrong decision possible. This makes Jersey look bad, and that's saying a lot! She tells her special needs boyfriend what happens, and he responds with let's have sex, cuz that's a normal response to being told someone killed someone and hid the body. The victim rises from the grave like Jesus, and suddenly he's gone from kindergarten teacher to seasoned psycho killer. How? Why? He then ties girl to her car and gets some revenge in. But she gets free and turns the tables. After believing she's killed him for good, she rests in an industrial park. She cleans herself up like a cat, spitting on herself even tho it's literally raining outside, then goes to a garage to have her car fixed. Surprise, the true victim was under her car and she's busted.

What a mess! Reviews were saying this was worth the watch. I knew 5 minutes in it wouldn't be, but I gave it a try. Waste of 90 minutes.

"Hit and Run" is a pretty forgettable horror flick about an adorable little woman who drives a big truck and runs off the road one night. She inspects the damage on her big truck the next day and finds a man she somehow ran over without realising, but who is still alive, and attacks her, so she clobbers him with a golf club. But he keeps coming back, and blah blah blah.

I loved the little woman in this movie, but other than that, there's nothing to recommend it. The guy who keeps coming back thing is just boring and annoying at this point. He's not scary, just annoying. Why won't he die? Oh yeah - because the movie requires him to keep coming back. He's like a party guest that won't leave.

An enjoyable enough shocker.
chaseanace17 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
In some ways routine and in some ways interesting, this splatter heavy horror flick at least doesn't skimp on thrills. It stars Laura Breckenridge as Mary, who during Spring Break has a little too much to drink. During her drive home she unknowingly strikes a man and he gets stuck on her bumper - which she doesn't realize until she gets home. Acting out of pain and rage, he lashes out at her and she whacks at him with a golf club hard enough to finish him off - or so she thinks.

While it does succumb to the genre cliché of having a "villain" who's hard to kill, it does work in terms of a story where things just keep spiraling out of control. Neither main character is completely sympathetic, which does help. And neither character is completely one-dimensional. Unfortunately, "Hit and Run" is one of those modern genre flicks that goes for the flamboyant visual a little too often, for example, camera angles and editing. This really wasn't necessary. Credit needs to go to the director, Enda McCallion, in one respect. This film never ever stops moving; the pacing is excellent. "Hit and Run" might be some things, but boring isn't one of them.

It's basically decent, gory and visceral entertainment. It's a dark film but is still rather compelling and never goes too far over the top. It even has the nerve not to have a standard, clichéd ending. The acting is acceptable in the main roles, with Kevin Corrigan - a guy you may have seen in films ranging from "GoodFellas" to "The Departed" to "Pineapple Express" - doing fine as the sullen, disturbed antagonist. Overall, it's perfectly watchable and maintains a good energy level for 84 minutes.

The Jeep Is the Real MVP
payasoingenioso20 January 2021
The movie is slow. There is little thrill. And most of the protagonist choices are highly questionable. It is very watchable.

The gore is not believable, nor is the makeup for many of the battlewounds.

I would have preferred a deeper story of the mental states of both the antagonist and protagonist.

Meanwhile, the Jeep is the real MVP of this film.

Hit and Run: Don't Drink and Drive!
kyleallen_917 February 2009
Alright, I really enjoyed this movie, but it compared to I Know What You Did Last Summer. This movie featured the hot Lauara Breckenridge, recently seen in 2009's Amusement. In this stalker shocker, she plays a college student who is trying to enjoy spring break and winds up having too much to drink one night a a bar. Believing that she is good enough to drive, she winds up accidentally hitting a man on a dark road, but doesn't realize it until she gets home. After trying to cover up the accident, she and those around her begin to be stalked at every turn. I really enjoyed this clever thriller and i definitely recommend it those who are looking for a movie to watch with friends. Also, the DVD cover is really neat!!

After a slow start this film turns dark and ugly. It will hang with you
dbborroughs19 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Driving home drunk a young lady hits a bump in the road and thinking nothing of it continues on her way home. Later that night hearing noises she finds that the bump wasn't nothing, rather it was a man who is now mashed into the grill of her car. Deciding against calling 911 she chooses to finish the guy off and then bury him out in the woods. Unfortunately he's not dead and he's really angry. Dark film starts off some what by the numbers, but then things slowly turn darker and darker with more than a few twists turning things rather black. The power of the film is not so much from anything in the film so much as from the progression of the story. There is a nice internal logic that keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering where this nightmare is going to go. Worth a look see, though if you're like me don't be surprised if this think hangs around the edges of your mind.

Very anemic horror movie!
manchester_england200418 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
HIT AND RUN is a very anemic horror movie apparently based on true events.

The only thing the movie has going for it is the plot, which may not be unique but presents the opportunity for an exciting, suspenseful experience. Mary Murdock, a college student, drives home from a party where she drank alcohol. She runs her car off the road after seeing a tyre. When she gets home she finds a badly injured guy attached to her car bumper. When the guy tries to grab her, she bashes him with a golf club. She then buries the seemingly dead guy, who later comes back for revenge.

From reciting the plot, it is clear the movie is heavily influenced by I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, as well as the final story in CREEPSHOW 2.

The direction is very pedestrian.

Imagine the suspense and atmosphere - you'll have to because these things are not in the movie itself! The driving scenes at the beginning could have built up atmosphere in preparation for the next scenes in the garage where Mary discovers the dying man. Instead, the driving scenes merely resemble the opening of many movies without doing anything special despite the importance to events happening later.

The scenes where the supposedly dead man comes back for his revenge could have utilised much suspense and tension. Instead, the scenes were almost entirely free of suspense and tension.

Imaginative camera-work combined with suspenseful music or sound effects could have been used to add psychological impact to the scenes of violence. Instead, the scenes of violence were very much by-the-numbers with just a few gory shock factors thrown in.

A decent script could have made the twists more interesting, as well as raising the very low standard of the middle of this movie. Instead, the script was mediocre, most noticeably during the painfully uninteresting middle section. The twists were revealed in a mere "here you are" fashion, without evidence of passion or interest from the producers. The revelation of the twists failed to invoke any emotion in me other than boredom.

Decent direction could have made the characters more interesting and the actors more interested. Instead, the characters were dull, one-dimensional, unworthy of care and played by actors who seemed to have very little interest in the whole project.

My comments illustrate the potential available but which was never realised.

Then there's the acting.

This movie is the first appearance I've seen of Laura Breckenridge. I've read a lot on IMDb about how sexy she is and how good her acting was. I beg to differ. I thought Miss Breckenridge was a very bland lead actress who does not have one tenth of the appeal or charisma of actresses such as Kate Beckinsale from VACANCY.

Kevin Corrigan fares better as the mysterious victim of the hit and run accident, but it is clear he is held back by an uninspired script and poor direction that failed to properly demonstrate character motivations and bring genuine menace to the audience.

Overall, HIT AND RUN is a very anemic movie that demonstrates little effort or imagination. I do not recommend it to any horror fans - whether they be fans of psychological horror, suspense or gore. All within these groups will be disappointed. Instead, I recommend the two movies that inspired this production - I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and CREEPSHOW 2. Both movies have much more action, more interesting characters, better direction and are generally much more entertaining.

Hit and Run: Absolutely amateur hour
Platypuschow13 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't aware of Hit and Run, it's one of those movies that popped up on Netflix and my curiosity got the best of me. I really need to mute my curiosity.

It tells the story of a girl who leaves a party, drives under the influence and runs a guy over. She does what she thinks needs to be done, but then the horror truly begins.

I say horror, but I really mean mediocrity and lots and lots of it. You see the concept is hardly original but it's solid enough, the issue is how shoddily made the whole thing is.

The camera work is some of the worst I've seen in years, I don't just mean the shoddy cinematography I mean the actual camera quality. Whenever a scene isn't fully illuminated it looks grainy and cheap, you simply shouldn't be seeing that in a movie from 2009 let alone one that isn't hyper low budget/independent.

So once you get behind the ugliness of it all you'll realize that it's flaws do not end there. Our characters are unlikable, questions are left unanswered, the story feels oddly rushed for a 90 minute film and it just comes across like the very definition of amateur hour.

I've seen considerably worse, hell I've seen considerably worse this week! But still this is a messy little film made worse by the fact I get the impression everyone involved behind the scenes really didn't know what they were doing.

The Good:

Fitting finale

Passable lead

The Bad:

Bafflingly poor camera quality

Some shoddy cinematography

Weak deaths

Run is right...run far, far away
Heislegend30 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Kevin Corrigan...that name is the only thing right with this movie. He might have played the dopey loser brother on Grounded For Life, but he plays a fairly convincing man-with-serious-mental-problems in this film. Aside from his somewhat surprising performance, the rest of the film is just utter garbage. Why? Read on.

I find it baffling that any movie could be based on the premise that a drunken teenager runs over a totally innocent guy, beats him with a golf club, then buries him alive...and then make HIM the bad guy. You know what? I'll say this right now: if anyone did even ONE of those things to me, I'd be looking for some revenge also. Granted one or two of his kills may have been a bit much, but how can you blame a man who's mentally unstable AND has been put through hell by some moron teenager? The crux of any teenkill movies is, as the moniker suggests, teenagers and as anyone who's been a teenager knows, teenagers are idiots. All of them. If you're reading this and you're a teen, you're an idiot...turn 20 and deal with it. But these kids take it to a whole other level. Not only does this chick manage to rack up a DUI, attempted vehicular manslaughter, felony assault, and attempted murder...she proceeds to do everything she possibly can to screw things up. She tells her apathetic and douche bag-esquire boyfriend, she keeps returning to the scene of the crime, and when things go bump in the night she wanders around her house saying "Hello?". I don't know about you, but if I think there's an intruder in my house the last thing I'm doing is announcing my presence.

Nothing really works in this movie. You've seen the plot a million times and you've seen it done better. The acting is mediocre at best save Corrigan's standout performance even if he does get only about 20 words. Another big minus (for me anyway) is that pretty much any horror action is done off screen. Big party foul. All in all I'll give it a 3, but it probably deserves less. How it made it's way up to (currently) 5.1 on IMDb is a total mystery to me.

4/10 is the highest thia movie merits
FountainPen28 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Disjointed storyline, very poor acting, some slow scenes, easily-anticipated happenings, some amateurish scripting, uneven cinematography, all contribute to make this a below-par flick. Of course, there are still some "reviewers" who give such a picture 10/10, like "angela-filmsociety" who titles her one-and-ONLY-review on IMDb "Hit & Run in tradition of B movie horrors". HUH??? Cast or crew member, or friend or relative? So, while the movie is not a total disaster, it is not satisfactory, but some viewers may enjoy the bloody gore featured! 4/10

Imbecile Movie and Character
claudio_carvalho20 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
After drinking a lot of booze with her girlfriends in a bar, the wasted Mary Murdock (Laura Breckenridge) drives her jeep home; however, she looses control and runs over a passageway. During the night, Mary hears some moaning in her garage and for her surprise, she finds a wounded man hold on the bumper of her jeep. When the stranger holds her leg, she smashes his head with a golf club. When Mary realizes that she has killed the man, she panics and decides to bury the body in the woods, with tragic consequences.

"Hit and Run" is an imbecile movie with an imbecile character. The story has a promising beginning, but unfortunately the attitudes of Mary Murdock are so unreasonable that irritates. It is OK that she hits the teacher and does not note since she was drunk; but why she needs to hit his head several times with a golf club? Why not calling the police, instead of burying the body? Why hit the car on a tree? How a man completely wounded could do what Timothy Emser does in the movie? The stupid conclusion is adequate for this crappy flick. My vote is three.

What the . . .
chicagopoetry12 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
To tell you the truth, I don't know what to think of this movie. On the one hand it's pretty creepy, nightmarish and well made, but on the other hand its entire premise is weird and ridiculous. I seem to remember many years ago a true story about a woman who hit a guy and drove all the way home with him crushed to the grill of her car. Well, that's the way this movie starts, so much so that you might think that it's based on that story. And for the first half of the movie, that's the way it plays out, as sort of a drama about how this woman who has killed a guy with her car is coping and trying to cover it up. But then all of a sudden it turns into Saw Part Seven the gore fest as the hit and run victim isn't really dead but is now a raving psychopath hell bent on torturing Mary the drunk driver. What the. . . There's just no point to this movie and I guess that's why it is so demented and hilarious.

Members of MADD won't exactly get a kick out of it, because the victim of this drunk driving accident is a crazed lunatic wielding pruning shears, unless this is a vision of DUI hell. We can't root for the girl either, because she's a stupid bimbo who, after all, did run over a pedestrian after binge drinking at a bar, and then re-kills him, like, four more times. Even though this movie is totally absurd, I have to admit I had a ball watching it--and Laura Breckenridge is a fabulous actor--so that's why I'm giving it a seven. But, come on, the guy should totally open his eye during the last scene; that alone would make it an eight.

what the hell...
janetteleelee9 August 2010
this is still a pretty fun attempt to bring 1960s B series to film. One of the best things about it is the narrative creative, vivid direction, that captures the spookiness of the events. It's a tale that has several different horror themes usually tempered with some dark comedy on this obnoxious party girl that causes havoc.

Despite some missteps,it offers up good gory fun. Some of the acting is good, too, particularly the man who gets hit.

I think it's pretty clear that the amount of enjoyment you get out of this movie is directly related to how sick your sense of humor is. Those people with a fairly big tolerance for sick humor, such as myself, will like it.

Funny and scary
vampyrecowboy15 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is a funny movie and a scary movie, a senseless movie and a stupid movie. It has all the elements that make up a good movie, but yet it is still not a good movie.

It's not a bad movie either...how can this be?

It has scary parts. It has funny parts.

Every few minutes the story changes...but one thing is sure...it's vivid.

With a small budget to most people...but more than my weekly paycheck, this is an entertaining little feast that would be best viewed when drinking some hard liquor, eating a good pizza and smoking some fine herb or whatever your choice of recreation is.

Just with the knowledge that you don't hop into your car afterwards before you sober up.

I would have liked to see the dead dude open his eyes or crack a smile at the end.

It's bad. Real bad. I like a good horrible movie, but this was painful.

Acting is horrible, especially the female lead.

Plot is practically nonexistent.

Photography and directing is just ugh...

Enough I can even talk about this thing anymore.
