- A teenager is given a handgun for her 13th Birthday. She later quotes "Dirty Harry" and John Wayne films while in front of a mirror, pretending to aim or shoot the aforementioned gun. She soon aims the firearm at an adult male stranger inside her home, who is actually visiting her mother, causing some short-term distress in both the surprised teen and the unannounced man.
- In response to an attempted assault on a female teenager in a bar's restroom, a man forcefully intervenes on her behalf, culminating in a porcelain sink to the predator's head which renders him unconscious.
- There is an implied assault or rape when a female teenager is chased by a male into an orchard at night. Nothing is seen or heard as they disappear between dark rows of trees. Refer to "Frightening/Intense Scenes" for detailed info.
- Two adult people (1 female, 1 male) are shot with a revolver handgun. An adult male inadvertently shoots an adult female to prove, erroneously, that a gun is not loaded; a female teenager shoots an adult male out of fear for her life.

- A girl's 13th birthday party is held in a bar with her biological mother and father present.
- Various adults drink and smoke at a public bar; a drunk patron attempts to drive away before a woman and man prevent him from leaving - he ends up lying down on the trunk of his car.
- A young woman encourages a female teenager to try some cocaine. The teen has minor hallucinations and sensory variation that involves blurred/colored images. Nothing extreme, she isn't scared, and it only happens once while a passenger in the woman's car.
- An adult man and two adult women are in a room littered with drugs and related paraphernalia, including a crack pipe. Two of them are briefly shown snorting a line of white powder.
- A young adult male and teen girl briefly play a beer-drinking game. The game is cut short by an adult and she is never shown drunk.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- This "coming-of-age" film is deeply emotional and potentially disturbing; some dark or violent scenes are combined with sporadic levity and black comedy.
- A teenaged girl feigns an epileptic fit, causing an elderly store clerk to become agitated thus triggering an attack (e.g. heart, stroke) requiring subsequent medical attention; the girl is later informed that the man survived.
- As noted under "Violence & Gore": An encounter in a bar restroom can be seen as intense; a female teenager is nearly assaulted before an adult male intervenes on her behalf, beating the predator unconscious. Two adults (1 female, 1 male) are shot with a revolver handgun: an adult male inadvertently shoots an adult female to prove, erroneously, that a gun is not loaded; a female teenager shoots an adult male out of fear for her life. The resulting bullet hole is conspicuous.
- As noted under "Nudity & Sex": *Trigger Warning* There is an implied assault or rape scene when a female teenager is chased by a male into an orchard at night. Nothing is seen or heard as they disappear between rows of trees as the camera pulls up for a wide-shot over the dark field; there is a concurrent 27-second voiceover of an alphabet game; by letter "E" the female voice sounds uncomfortable, by "J" she sounds pained, and by letter "S" the voice is subdued and the scene ends. While not overtly graphic, this scene is suggestive and may be disturbing for some people.
- A clothed 13-year-old female wakes up tied to a bed, her wrists and ankles (legs together) bound to the frame by rope. She struggles to break free, screams for help, and curses before an adult male enters the room.
