For an aspiring TV scribe, landing the first writing gig is a feat. Holding on to that job is a triumph.
Shonda Rhimes has some advice for novice writers on how not to get fired: Make some noise around the table, so that you have an immediate impact in the room. The secret seems obvious, but Rhimes told IndieWire that it’s surprising how many newbies clam up and immediately limit their careers.
“I think everybody feels like their goal in their job is to sit quietly in the corner and watch things happen,” Rhimes said. “And that is the most deadly mistake you can make. That is exactly how you get fired. The most silent person in the writers room is usually the first fired person in the writers room. Because people start to either think that the person is stupid or creepy or honestly doesn’t have anything to say.

David Beckham is one proud father. Last week, his 11-year-old son Cruz Beckham released his very first song, but it wasn't necessarily the music that made the former soccer stud smile from ear-to-ear. Rather, it was the significance behind it. All proceeds from Cruz's single, "If Every Day Was Christmas," goes to the foundation Global's Make Some Noise, and while David would like to think he and wife Victoria Beckham raised their son to be this young, charitable man, he gives all the props to Cruz. E! News caught up with the athlete at Unicef's 70th anniversary party on Monday night where he told us, "[Victoria and I] like to think that we can credit ourselves...You...

It’s reassuring that even after spending a large chunk of 2015 making radio-ready pop music with the likes of Justin Bieber, Skrillex can still throw down a set of bone-rattling bass music when the situation calls for it.
Now that Edc Brasil has wrapped up, a direct recording of his performance at the festival has begun making its rounds on social media, and it’s definitely worth watching. Mixing grating bass wobbles with saccharine melodies and borderline chipmunk-esque vocals in the style that Skrillex is known for, the performance succeeded in energizing the thousands-deep crowd in attendance on the evening he played.

How low can she go?! Beyonce stole the spotlight on the red carpet at the Tidal X: 1020 Amplified by Htc concert in New York City on Tuesday, showing some serious skin in a plunging burgundy wrap dress by Philipp Plein. The "Drunk In Love" singer completed her racy look with Christian Louboutin heels, a Georgine fur stole and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Jay-z's other half switched up her style when she hit the stage at the star-studded event, trading in her gown for a pink leotard. The 34-year-old star joined Nicki Minaj to perform their new track, "Feeling Myself," for the first time. We're loving Bey's pop of color, but we can't stop looking at Nicki's famous booty! It was a strange atmosphere prior to kick off at St James’ Park as a deflated Newcastle United faced a freshly blown up Chelsea.
The Magpies’ pre-match atmospheric video broke a deathly silence that swiftly returned upon its completion. The stadium announcer’s war-cry of “Lets Make Some Noise For Newcastle United” was met with a eery knee-pat, resembling the latter stages of a charity raffle.
Presumably Newcastle’s defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup had spooked the Geordie fan-base but the Magpies’ thrilling start turned up the volume as Steve McClaren’s 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez up front gave Jose Mourinho’s side some early problems.

Ariana Grande and Big Sean are certainly putting the "P" in Pda. The couple - who made quite a stir when they walked the Grammys red carpet together in February - shared a kiss during a surprise duet at the Detroit leg of Grande's Honeymoon Tour on Saturday. Big Sean, 26, first surprised the audience when he stepped out on stage to sing "Big Mistake" with his girlfriend. I'm one of those guys that don't watch the Super Bowl for the game. I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and movie spots, and there were a lot of great commercials this year! Companies spent a combined $359 million on advertising during this year's Super Bowl, with each 30-second spot estimated to cost about $4.5 million.
A few of my favorite commercials included the ones for Skittles, Snickers, Liam Neeson's amazing Clash of Clans spot, and of course Esurance's "Say May Name" commercial with Bryan Cranston reprising his role as Walter White. Even though there were a lot of great commercials, there were some bad ones sprinkled in there as well, like Kim Kardashian's T-Mobile commercial and Nationwide's "Make Safe Happen," which caused a lot of controversy.

Beyoncé and Jay Z took center stage in Paris on Saturday, performing their last On the Run concert date to a sold-out crowd. In the final moments, Bey took time to recognize her husband. "I love you so much!" she told him through tears. "Give it up for Mr. Carter!" Jay returned the gesture with a slightly longer speech. "It's been an honor and a pleasure to share the stage with you," he said. "I couldn't dream of anything else than to be in a stadium with the woman I love, who I believe is the greatest entertainer of all time. Make some noise for Beyoncé!" Soon the couple was sipping Champagne backstage as a photographer snapped pictures the singer would later share on her website. The happy moments came just one day after Jay ignited a firestorm of speculation that Blue Ivy Carter just might be a big sister soon.

Over the past few years, it seems that Will Ferrell has done just about everything. He's expanded his acting chops, posed as a L.A. Lakers security guard, anchored the news in North Dakota, and appeared in countless Dodge Durango ads.
This week, Ferrell finally brings us the return of Ron Burgundy in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," out now. In the long-awaited sequel, Burgundy and his Channel 4 News team take on New York, stopping at nothing to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the ratings.
Whether you're into Ferrell's mustachioed newsman or not, there's still much to know about the A-list comedian. From his humble high school beginnings to beating out a future star for "Saturday Night Live," here are 19 things you probably don't know about Will Ferrell.

SimCity is finally out on Mac and you know what, at the time of writing, it’s been out for a little while. I was waiting for SimCity on Mac for a long time, but I just missed the whole release date in the sea of more tangible, exciting and inevitable game releases.
SimCity was finally released on Mac on 29th August 2013, after nearly a year of constant delays and botched deadlines. SimCity has been on PC for well over a year and while I can appreciate that the Mac platform is not the primarily gaming platform for home computers, I can’t help but feel a little bit sore after EA’s Mac release. Of course, in my eyes SimCity has suffered the ultimate demise; I quite simply forgot it existed.

We’ve waited a long time to officially see when we could get our hands on the Xbox One. Announced at E3 with a release window, the Xbox One has been a glint in many a Microsoft gamers eye since. Some amazing games were announced (not to mention that Halo trailer!) and Microsoft introduced the world to what a next generation console could really do. Gamescom 2013 only added to the hype but that elusive release date was still not revealed, despite Sony letting gamers know when they could firmly grasp a PS4 in the mitts.
Well, it seems Microsoft was holding off, and now the release date has finally been revealed. The Xbox One will be releasing 22nd November 2013 in 13 territories across the world including Us, Europe and Au. Those countries are UK, Us, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. The remaining markets...

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has always pushed its current day story. Desmond Miles is just a normal guy who gets caught up in a huge world-changing web of corporate intrigue, with the evil company Abstergo, taking him hostage and tapping into his memories. Desmond’s ancestors are master assassins destined to come into contact with the fabled and powerful Apples of Eden. Abstergo wants to know where they are, to take over the world and turn everyone into ducks.
Now, one of those things I said was a lie, but you probably can’t tell which because it’s all rather silly. But still, here we are on this journey into the unknown. Desmond’s story only really took up 10-20% of the gameplay in the first five iterations of the franchise, the other percentage being spent in a much more interesting place with much more interesting people. But...

At a special conference just before E3 2013, Microsoft unveiled their next gen console, the Xbox One. Much was made of its television and social capabilities and Kinect 2.0 was explained. Games were on the back burner, but Microsoft promised that E3 would be all about the games. Finally, the information everyone wanted to hear was the release date and Microsoft sort of complied with a window of November 2013. The bar was set for the next gen race. With Sony going second, Microsoft had a distinct advantage of being the one’s to really show off next gen technology to the public for the first time.
At E3, Microsoft delivered on the promise of games but still seemed rather elusive with that release date. But that was okay. Gamescom was coming up and everyone assumed that that was the time when all would be revealed. Gamescom 2013 arrived and Sony announced that the...

The Civil Rights Movement transformed the United States in ways so fundamental it’s difficult for many to conceive that this nation once tolerated, and even encouraged, state-sanctioned discrimination. Rights that all Americans take for granted were bitterly contested just a few decades ago, and without the courage and fortitude of a handful of individuals American society might be profoundly different. John Robert Lewis was one of those unlikely heroes that fought non-violently to make the United States a more just society.
Congressman Lewis, the former leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, was the youngest speaker at 1963′s March on Washington.

The Beastie Boys are fighting for their right ... not to have the copyright to their songs infringed.
Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, Michael "Mike D" Diamond and the estate of the late Adam "McA" Yauch have filed suit against Monster Energy Corp. over what the Beasties say is unauthorized use of several of their songs in promotional materials for the energy drink maker.
The suit -- E! Online has a copy -- says Monster used four Beastie Boys songs without permission in a promotional video for a snowboarding event Monster sponsored in Canada in May. The "Ruckus in the Rockies" video contained excerpts from "So Watcha Want," "Sabotage," "Make Some Noise" and "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" and, according to the Beasties, "conveyed to consumers the impression that Beastie Boys permitted the use of their name and intellectual property, and participated in connection with Monster's promotion of its products and events.

Last week, the world was treated to the amazingly entertaining spectacle of "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy performing an impromptu version of Krs One's classic track "Hip Hop vs. Rap." And lo, it was awesome.
But while Hardy does get some bonus points for having a baby strapped to his chest, he's hardly the first celebrity to flex his flow for an internet audience. So with that in mind, here's a roundup of some of the hottest (and not so hottest) raps performed by your favorite movie stars.
Because after all, considering how many rappers have gone on to successful film careers, isn't it time for a little reciprocity?
Anne Hathaway
What better place to start our list than with Hardy's own "Dark Knight Rises" co-star? Seriously, can't you just imagine Bane and Catwoman in between takes, comparing freestyle tips and sharing hot beats while a frustrated Batman looks on in envy?...

Bieber kicked off his electrifying performance on the "Today" show with "Boyfriend," the funky lead single off his new album, Believe. From there he popped, locked and sang his way through his catalogue of tracks, some from his June 19 album release and some from his past albums. He brought the energy for his My World track "Baby" (even rapping his way through Ludacris' part), but he brought out Big Sean to rap alongside him on "As Long as You Love Me." He had recently teased on Twitter that he had plans to bring out a special guest.

It’s difficult to watch Joyful Noise without thinking that this movie is a remake of Sister Act 2, minus all the nuns. Familiar themes and plot threads are prevalent, such as the Gospel competition and the conflict between classic gospel songs and more contemporary music. Also, there are a few patches of questionable performances and Disney Channel acting sprinkled throughout the first hour of the film. However, like any musical, it’s hard to not be uplifted by the music. Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton do a superb job of blending their unique singing styles into various Gospel songs. Broadway performer Jeremy Jordan joins Keke Palmer for a handful of duets that are just as good. Although Joyful Noise is a far cry from the greatest movie you’ll watch, it’s feel-good story and toe-tapping music (especially from the children’s choir) will leave you with a bright smile.

Chicago – “Joyful Noise” is a weird movie in that it absolutely comes alive in its full musical numbers, of which there are several, but the plot that connects those gospel and pop songs is so thin that it’s impossible to care about the characters or what’s happening to them. The people in “Joyful Noise” are all likable and the story is harmless but the movie is slowly paced and oddly inert, showing none of the life that real gospel music brings to the people. It’s not full of enough joy or noise.
Blu-ray Rating: 2.5/5.0
First, a warning. “Joyful Noise” is long. It runs nearly two hours and feels much longer than its running time given that there’s not a whole lot of plot. The characters and storylines spin their wheels and there are several full-length musical numbers, including a rendition of “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson.

It was with great sadness today that we read of the tragic passing of Adam Yauch at the age of just 47. As a member of the Beastie Boys, Yauch was an icon of American music, and for the last decade his involvement with Oscilloscope Laboratories, the film company he co-founded, made him a beloved figure within U.S. independent cinema.
Until earlier this year, Yauch was an Ifp board member, and on the Ifp website Executive Director Joana Vicente offers the following tribute:
On behalf of the Ifp staff and board of directors, we are deeply saddened by the passing of former board member Adam Yauch. Adam was an incredibly talented and passionate individual who brought a special uniqueness to the Ifp. From the frat-boy fun of 1986's "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)" video to what will likely be their final clip, a 2011 all-star clip to promote the Hot Sauce Committee Part Two single "Make Some Noise" and the "Fight for Your Right Revisited" film, the B-Boys not only had fun, they made sure we did too.

The Grammys often offer up some of the best musical performances of the year and this year's awards were no exception.
The impact of Whitney Houston's tragic passing on Saturday was felt throughout the ceremony as many of the evening's performers and presenters took a moment to honor the legendary singer. "Make some noise for Whitney!" Rihanna proclaimed during her high energy take on "We Found Love."
Bruno Mars was equally demanding. During his performance of "Runaway," he declared, "Yo, tonight we celebrate. We celebrate the beautiful Miss Whitney Houston. Get off your rich asses and let's have fun!"
Then, of course, there was Jennifer Hudson's take on "I Will Always Love You," which brought the house down!
But which performance was your favorite? Vote in our poll below and let us know!
