Sam and Dean go by the names of Detective Campbell and Detective Raimi. This is a nod to director Sam Raimi and actor Bruce Campbell, who grew up together and made the Evil Dead Series, , Raimi also frequently casts Campbell in his other movies.
When Sam tells Dean that he going to Lanie's house, Dean replies, "Oh yeah, great. You go hang out with jailbait. Just watch out for Chris Hansen". Chris Hansen is a TV journalist on Dateline NBC (1992) who hosts a part of the show called To Catch a Predator (2004).
There is an episode of The Twilight Zone (1959) with the same title, Long Distance Call (1961) (Season 2, episode 22, 1961) and similar story, in which a boy talks to his dead grandmother on a toy telephone.
This episode is very similar to the 1963 episode of The Twilight Zone (1959) titled Night Call (1964) where a deceased loved one continues to call.
Dean's voice mail says, "This is Herman Munster. Leave a message." He is referring to Herman Munster, the Frankenstein-monster-lookalike patriarch in the 1960's sitcom classic The Munsters (1964).
