The intro
snoid-117 October 2021
The intro you all didn't like was a perfect spoof of one of most famous scenes from the Sopranos. Tony kills his nephew in the same exact manner- frame for frame- following an accident.

Lurleen's Dad Is the Biggest Jerk Ever
e_daneva24 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Papa Don't Leech is a bad episode. That part in the beginning which was a parody of Soprano's was brilliant. It had enough humor and it was interesting enough. Another great part was when Lurleen's dad left and Lurleen cut out every that started with Pop. That was pretty funny. Then Bart says a really funny line " You'ld think living with crazy people is fun, but it really isn't. " Either than those examples, this episode feels slightly bland. But one thing I'm concerned about which made me give this low ratings is because of Lurleen's relationship with her dad. I mean, her idiot dad just came back and left her forever. I mean, he never showed any sign that he cared for poor Lurleen. And Lurleen smashes a guitar at his head. This relationship is never going to work out. We've got the father who cares only about money, and then we have the daughter who would smash a guitar on hear idiot fathers head. I mean, Krusty the Clown is a better father than Lurleen's. At least he actually tried to make Sophie happy. In all, I give this a 4.9 out of 10.

Lurleen returns
safenoe26 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Papa Don't Leech is an okay episode with the return of Lurleen Lumpkin, who is voiced by Beverly D'Angelo, who first appeared in the season three episode Colonel Homer and it's a lot of fun to see Lurleen back with the Dixie Chicks playing themselves. Anyway, this episode falls outside the golden era of The Simpsons, which in my humble opinion is the first 10 seasons, but still Papa Don't Leech is worthwhile seeing as an extension of the golden era.

Marge kinds of make peace with Lurleen to help re-establish her career, especially when Lurleen is living on the streets. Anyway, it's okay to watch some of the Simpsons episodes post-Golden era.

A very weak episode
freemantle_uk22 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The Simpsons used to be one of the best show on television, but this episodes shows how much it has declined and that the writers are really running out of ideas.

This episode has the return of Lurleen Lumpkin, the woman from the third series who Homer ended up managing her singing career and ends up fancying our hero. This relationship nearly ends Homer and Marge's marriage. Lurleen has had cameos afterwards, such as in Marge vs. the Monorail and Team Homer. I don't think that Lurleen should have been re-introduced in a episode as a main character and Marge was too nice to her in the episode. Lurleen was only meant to be a one shot character and this is good over old-territory. The episode also has Marge looking for Lurleen's dad who abandoned her at four-years-old, a very similar storyline in the third series episode, Like Father Like Clown where Bart and Lisa try to reunion Krusty with his estranged father. Lurleen's dad also steals her song she wrote and became the manager of the Dixie Chicks, the stealing the song idea has been used in the programmes Califronia Dreams and USA High.

Besides the recycling of old ideas this episode is also not very funny. There was only one good joke which was how Marge had described Lurleen.

To be honest it is not really worth watching new Simpsons episode and I personally focus on the Simpsons when they were in there peck, series 3 to 9.

Great Episode
aric-104 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode started out a little slow with Homer dreaming of smothering his Grandpa (funny for it's shock value?) but it picked up quickly. The episode was witty and clever and although suffered from the standard Simpsons "the beginning act had nothing to do with the rest of the episode problem" it held together well.

This episode brought us one of the best Bart lines of all times: "You'd think living in a house full of crazy people would be fun. Actually, it's really depressing."

It also has the Dixie Chicks as themselves singing such thought provoking phrases as: "Free speech needs curtailing now and then." "We pledge allegiance to Fox News." "Please take away our right to choose."

And how about when Lurleen's father Royce Boss Hogg Lumpkin first hears of his daughter's troubles while eating breakfast cereal and says, "I better whiskey up this cereal," and pours whiskey from a flask over his cereal. Soon after he goes on to say, "I better heroine up this orange juice," as he proceeds to inject heroine from a needle into a glass of orange juice turning it an ugly brown. This outlandish event causes the viewer to both laugh in shock and pause for a moment to ponder if you can actually drink heroine.

Another great Bart line was when he asks Lurleen where all her past money went: "Did it go up your nose? Between your toes?"

Or when the judge poignantly (although unexpectedly) realizing most old music makes money due to camp value says: "The court orders you to make payments of a hundred dollars a week till such time as your music comes back in style or becomes appreciated for its camp value."

And who could forget Grandpa jumping in at the end of a song stating (and yes, he had an otter on a leash with him): "And here comes Grandpa with an otter."

This episode was full of memorable lines and the song by the Dixie Chicks was great (it *had* to be done by the Dixie Chicks to be funny due to their previous comments about the Bush administration!) Later in the episode they sell out their song for a Chevy commercial because they "love money." The fact that they would be willing to poke fun at themselves (and take another jab at the Country Music Establishment) really earns them a lot of respect.

One of the best episodes of the season.

The weakest episode of S19 for me
studioAT11 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Lurleen Lumpkin makes a return in this episode, that was sadly spoilt for me by a very unpleasant opening, in which Homer attempts to smother his father.

Yes, it was a dream sequence, but still.

Poor.
