- Keri Derzmond is a successful lawyer, who recently moved from Atlanta to Maryland. She had a stalker back in Atlanta, and she soon discovers that he has followed her to Maryland. The local police refuse to help her, since the stalker has never physically hurt her. Keri contacts the FBI profilers for help. Jareau is in temporary command of the team, and decides to take the case in order to prevent Keri's death. The stalker is getting bolder, kidnapping Keri's dog and severely damaging the car of Keri's boyfriend. As the stalker prepares to kidnap Keri herself, Jareau is increasingly worried that they have failed to protect Keri. She seems to be bothered by personal matters as well, since Jareau has just found that she is pregnant. Meanwhile, Hotchner and Rossi try to determine the mental state of a female killer in another case. The killer is an abused wife, who was treated as a slave by her husband for 20 years and kept in isolation from the outside word. They have to determine what caused her to snap and kill her abuser while he slept.—Dimos I
- On J.J.'s urging, the BAU take on a case that they normally would not, that of Keri Derzmond, a woman stalked for two years by an unknown man. The stalker has been leaving her threatening love letters complete with photographs of various parts of his body, but no photographs showing his face. The photographs over time have changed so that the stalker is looking increasingly like Keri's boyfriend, Ryan. As the BAU work on this case, J.J. seems to be taking Keri's plight especially to heart. Meanwhile, despite believing she has an open and shut case, District Attorney Eve Alexander asks Hotch and Rossi solely to provide their insight into a case, that of Audrey Henson, who shot her husband dead. Audrey's lawyers are using battered wife syndrome as their defense despite the fact that there has never been any evidence of abuse. As Hotch and Rossi meet with Audrey and her children, they do find a woman with no bruises or broken bones, but...—Huggo
- Maryland. A woman named Keri Derzmond waits at line at the dry cleaner, picks up her clothes and then heads to the pharmacy. A man watches her from the nearby shelves as she picks up her prescription.
Later, she arrives home to find flowers and a card on her doorstep. Inside the card is a photograph of a man's bicep. She panics and calls her fiance. "He's back," she says. "He found me again."
Cut to Hotch and Rossi in Boston, who are participating in a terrorism seminar. Sufflolk County DA Eve Alexander approaches. A woman named Audrey Henson killed her husband of 20 years while he was sleeping. Her lawyers are claiming battered woman syndrome. Anderson would like proving the woman is lying.
"I can't promise what well find is going to help your case," Hotch says.
"Let me worry about that," Anderson says.
Back at the office, Jennifer and Emily meet Keri. The woman says she has been getting notes from a stalker for two years -- even after moving from Atlanta to Maryland. Jennifer promises to consider the case. Derzmond hands Jennifer a slip of paper with three names on it.
"Those are the people who you'll be calling when you find me dead," she says.
Meanwhile, a mysterious man tapes another picture of Derzmond to his wall, stroking her figure.
The team meets to discuss the Derzmond case. The stalker believes Derzmond is in love with him, but doesn't know it yet. Derek expresses doubts, but Jennifer is adamant. They decide to take the case.
Back in Boston, Hotch receives strange news from Garcia: Other than a birth certificate and marriage license, there are no official records for Audrey Henson. Meanwhile, the beneficiary of all insurance policies is the couple's 19-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Spencer and Derek meet with the local police department in Maryland. Outside, Jennifer confesses to Emily that she is getting some heat from above for involving the team.
"Just because there isn't a dead body doesn't mean we shouldn't take the case," she says.
Emily agrees, but notes: "It's a drain on the system."
Back inside, Spencer says the first note that Derzmond received from the stalker probably marks some kind of anniversary -- perhaps the first time he saw her. The date on the card is March 21, 2006.
"If we could figure out what this date means to the stalker, it could trace his connection back to Keri," Derek says.
Jennifer and Emily meet with Keri. They ask her for a list of acquaintances, former boyfriend and "indiscretions." Keri gets a call from her fiancé Ryan: another note from the stalker has arrived.
Spencer compares the pictures Keri received. The muscle and skin tone of the man in the pictures has changed. Spencer theorizes that the stalker is attempting to improve his appearance.
Jennifer and Emily examine the latest package -- a small box. Emily opens the box to find a pair of antique earrings. A note says the jewelry belonged to the stalker's grandmother. He wants to make Derzmond a part of his family. Creepy.
Meanwhile, Rossi meets with Audrey's children, Sarah and Nathan. The kids say their father was kind, gentle and loving, while their mother was jealous that her husband loved their kids more than her.
"Why would she think that?" Hotch asks.
"Because he said so all the time," Nathan says.
Ryan and Keri prepare to make dinner at home when the dog starts barking. Ryan goes outside and finds the gate open. The dog is gone.
Cut to the stalker inside a dark apartment. He gives Derzmonds stolen dog a bone.
Derek and Spencer theorize that the stalker is trying to look more like Ryan -- someone Derzmond is attracted to. They add dog-napping to the list of offenses, noting that he is trying to get close to her. They worry that Ryan could be the next target.
Hotch and Rossi investigate the Henson bedroom. Hotch notices that someone has cleaned up much of the blood. But who?
Garcia performs a background check on Keri and notices that she went to the Atlanta Womens Health Clinic three times. Keri confesses to an abortion her fiancé doesnt know about.
Ryan enters, having overheard everything. Angry, he rushes outside ... and discovers that his windshield has been smashed. The stalker watches from the bushes.
Derzmond is out shopping and recognizes a man staring at her. Spooked, she quickly calls the team.
Hotch and Rossi interview Audrey. She says her husband never beat her -- even when she "probably deserved it." Audrey says she is fat and a terrible housekeeper. She says that she never attended any of her children's functions because she didnt want to embarrass them. The woman has self-esteem issues, to say the least.
Hotch and Rossi meet with Alexander.
"No one has ever hit this woman," Rossi explains.
"And yet she has been profoundly abused," Hotch counters.
Rossi explains that the abuse was psychological; the dead man cut his wife off from the outside world. Alexander is incredulous, but agrees to visit Audrey with Rossi and Hotch.
Ryan notices a man walking the missing dog. He beats the man. But Ryan has the wrong man. Keri, watching from the window, turns around to find the STALKER standing in her living room! The dog was a diversion.
Jennifer and Emily arrive on the scene. The man who Ryan beat was paid to walk the dog up and down the street. Derzmond, meanwhile, is missing. The stalker has taken her. A witness reports seeing a brown van.
Terrified, Kerri sits in the stalker's van, looking at her photos of on the wall. She pretends to be flattered.
"It's good to finally see you in person," she lies.
She says she remembers seeing for the first time on the 21st. He is placated -- then becomes angry.
Garcia sends pictures of men in Georgia and Maryland who own vans matching the earlier description. Spencer narrows the list down to one: an "IT guy" at a law firm named Mike Hicks. It is possible he met Keri through work.
Emily theorizes that the stalker would take Keri somewhere special to her not necessarily to him. Ryan mentions that he proposed at Chesapeake Beach. The team hustles out.
Hotch, Rossi and Alexander meet with Audrey. She recalls shooting her husband with a shotgun and cleaning up the blood immediately afterwards. She explains that her husband would have been furious if any strangers came into the house and discovered a mess.
Alexander agrees the woman has been abused, recommending criminally negligent homicide. Audrey will probably get off with probation and time served.
Keri, meanwhile, asks that the stalker remove her binds. He sniffs her hands, describing the first time they met at work. Creepy. She suggests that they go for a walk. He agrees. The two exit out of the van -- but not before he grabs a gun.
The team intercepts the pair. Mike Hicks holds a gun to Keri's head. She calms the stalker while Derek inches around a corner. Keri pushes the man away and Derek tackles him. The stalker is dragged away.
"They cant keep us apart!" he screams.
Ryan and Keri embrace.
Back at the office, Jennifer is working late. Something is on her mind. She makes a call on her cell phone.
"We really need to talk," she says. "I'm pregnant."
