- Esther: Start taking these people out of here! He swore to protect them. If he won't, we have to! Seth, the blind girl is looking you in the eye. Do you know what that means? It means God brought me here. He has a message for you, and that message is move your ass! Go! Come on!
- Topher Brink: [enters uncomfortably, very embarrassed] Doctor...
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Topher?
- Topher Brink: [waves childishly] Hello.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: [uncertainly] Hello.
- Topher Brink: So listen, here's the thing. I was looking...
- [hastily corrects himself]
- Topher Brink: glancing... I noticed... Victor!
- Dr. Claire Saunders: You noticed Victor?
- Topher Brink: Hmm-mm. In the shower. And he's... naked.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: [nods] Victor's naked in the shower?
- Topher Brink: Uh-huh. Right. Anyway, he seems to be having a kind of man reaction.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: A what?
- Topher Brink: You know, reaction that a man person might have in the, you know, naked part... Shower. Victor.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Victor had an erection?
- Topher Brink: I prefer "man reaction."
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Why?
- Topher Brink: This is a problem. This can't happen. It shouldn't happen. When they're in the doll state, there's a limp... ness.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: [checks Victor's file] Well, I warned you about something like this.
- Topher Brink: When?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: His last engagement was with Miss Lonely Hearts.
- Topher Brink: So? That shouldn't matter. I mean, okay, it was a romantic engagement, but he was wiped.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: This is the eighth time he's had that exact imprint. I've cautioned against exact imprints in the same dolls, haven't I?
- Topher Brink: I don't know. You put it in one of those reports?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Of course.
- Topher Brink: Okay! Well, nobody reads those.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: [sits down, sighs] How many times has this happened?
- Topher Brink: I don't know. I wasn't... looking for it.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Well, now you're gonna have to. Let's start with the last three months of shower tapes.
- Topher Brink: We're actually gonna sit down and... look for...
- [hesitates]
- Dr. Claire Saunders: ...man reactions.
- Adelle DeWitt: It's not the irony that concerns me. You're asking me to place an active with a federal agency.
- Senator Boxbaum: Indirectly, yes.
- Adelle DeWitt: I don't wish to be vulgar, but one of the many benefits of having you as a client is that you help us avoid entanglements with federal agencies, Senator.
- Laurence Dominic: It's not the job. I'm confident Langton can handle the ATF. It's Echo. Her field responses have been wildly erratic lately.
- Adelle DeWitt: She's demonstrated a talent for adaptability, which is precisely what's required in this instance.
- Laurence Dominic: They shouldn't be adaptable; they should be predictable. If Alpha didn't teach us that much?
- Adelle DeWitt: You don't like Echo, do you, Mr. Dominic?
- Laurence Dominic: It's not that I don't like her. It's that sometimes I worry you do.
- Adelle DeWitt: Your objections have been noted. Thank you, Mr. Dominic.
- Boyd Langton: I admire your courage. Hitchhiking across country.
- Esther: Because I'm blind?
- Boyd Langton: Nah. 'Cause you're a girl.
- Esther: I'm a girl? Wow, I've been blind longer than I thought. Do I hear a smile?
- Boyd Langton: You do.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: This is the eighth time he's had that exact imprint. I've cautioned against repeated imprints in the same dolls. Haven't I?
- Topher Brink: I don't know. You put it in one of those reports?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Of course!
- Topher Brink: Okay, well, nobody reads those.
- Laurence Dominic: Then what's the problem?
- Boyd Langton: Agent Lilly. He's about to release the hounds of hell on that compound. Echo's imprint will not have prepared her for this.
- Laurence Dominic: Do nothing.
- Boyd Langton: What? If you're worried about a glitch...
- Laurence Dominic: No extraction! Authorization denied!
- [Ends the call]
- Jonas Sparrow: The truth this time sister!
- [Tries to slap Esther. She blocks it]
- Esther: It's a miracle. I can see!
- Agent Lilly: Okay, you wanted to go in there and get your girl? I'm open to letting you do that, under a couple of conditions...
- Boyd Langton: [Boyd slams Agent Lilly against a truck] How 'bout these conditions? You stay the hell out of my way and maybe I don't tell anyone it was you! You knew he sent his people into town once a month. You were waiting. You ginned up tempers. Started rumors in the town, created a diversion and you wrote that note. That's how you got your warrant. Nobody ever asked to be saved. Not by you!
- Laurence Dominic: If I may, Echo has been exhibiting the same signs Alpha did before his composite event. Now, if you're not willing to send her to the attic...
- Adelle DeWitt: Don't gamble on what I'd be willing to do, Mister Dominic. Take the stairs.
- [Entering the elevator, she closes it before he can enter]
- Jonas Sparrow: [Jonas crawls toward Esther so that snipers won't see him] Esther? Those men outside, I know you didn't bring them. I know you were telling me the truth. They've come to destroy us. To raze the garden and to salt the earth. Esther, before, I looked into your eyes, and I saw nothing. And so I believed. And I look into them now, and I need to know, was this a miracle?
- Jonas Sparrow: I do not come into this garden a pure being, Esther. I come into it the way Adam left: broken, corrupted, impure. But those whom I shelter, they are not corrupted. They have not walked in the world the way I have. They have not seen the things that I have seen. And against this world, they are defenseless. So I will protect them. And any who seek to harm them to foul this garden,
- [Points a gun in Esther's face]
- Jonas Sparrow: shall fail!
- General Store Proprietor: I didn't see who wrote the note. Now it could have been any one of 'em. There was a bit of a mishegaas going on up at the front of the store at the time.
- Boyd Langton: What kind of mishegaas?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: [Topher and Claire are searching the film archives for instances of Victor getting an erection. She finds one] Of course. If it'd been a snake... Please pretend I didn't say that.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: There have been instances of this technology causing aneurysms and in one case, death. It's possible one good sneeze could bring on a seizure.
- Topher Brink: Or even worse, a sneezeure!
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Uh, uh, let's roll that back, please. I believe I spotted a time science at 3:21:04. Tell me what you think.
- Topher Brink: Yeah, it ain't oak, but it's on its way to wood. Are we done?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Go to Wednesday, the 23rd, please.
- Topher Brink: [tape whirls as it rewinds] You know, I could burn these and you could just take 'em home.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Go back. There. Mm-hmm. Wait. Freeze that.
- Topher Brink: [dismayed] I will not!
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Of course. If it'd been a snake...
- [shakes her head]
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Please pretend I didn't say that. Go back to 17:57:09. Can you zoom in...
- [before Topher can protest:]
- Dr. Claire Saunders: to his face?
