Entertaining

We just went through a remodel of our own, granted we're in a time where everything is delayed . I'm just curious if any of these new episodes they are airing if when Mika orders the cabinets they come in on time , mine took five months and oddly enough my cabinets were from wellborn as well. Just about every show I've watched every kitchen ends up with white or gray shaker cabinets , that's gotten old. It would be nice to see more color and design.

Pretty good show.

I like the show overall, but I'd like it a lot better if Brian would quit trying to sound like someone he isn't, i.e., a different race. He sounds a bit like a fool when he does that. The home decor is much the same, but they do try to give the clients what they want and the homes are lovely just the same. Nice couple, great attitudes, hard workers and they're fun to watch.

I love this show! Please, Come to Texas!!!
scsteach22 March 2021
My new favorite show on HGTV! I love all the beautiful homes that they build from ground zero and the decor is always stunning! I love the cast! They're funny, knowledgeable, and just a beautiful couple with a wonderful supportive family! When mistakes happen, Mika is the calm one; Brian always acts like the situation is chaos but they always manage to make it right and please the homeowners! My hubby and I always say, "God, we wish that they would come to Texas and build our family's Dream Home in 100 days and decorate it! We also absolutely love the Special Projects and would love to be the next homeowners to design our own Dream Home with help from Mika and Brian (they make it all come together) and include a special surprise! Most builders try to make you choose between 3 floorplans and/or stuff you in tight community.

Entertaining show with some great design ideas

I absolutely love the chemistry of these two! Watching a home being built from dirt to design is fascinating, and they way they handle problems with a sense of humor is refreshing. Each season gets bigger and better, can't wait for season 3.

Fake personalities and boring designs
bsyee-2288313 March 2022
I don't know what's worse, Brian's awkward "hood" attitude that he exaggerates when he has a black client, or Mika's fake excitement at clients choosing countertops. And I'm so tired of these husband and wife partners where the husband is a big kid and the wife is unamused. We've seen it with Chip and Joanna, Ben and Erin, and Dave and Jenny. It's old and frankly, it's never been entertaining.

Worse than that though, the designs are boring. I've only seen one episode where Mika didn't con the home owners into the same white kitchen cabinets she's used in every build. Her showroom has lots of beautiful cabinet samples but in every episode she has them choose between basic white frame cabinets, or slightly more ornate white cabinets. Mika actually looked worried when one homeowner expressed interest in dark cabinets! The exteriors at least vary in finishes but overall, I don't think Brian or Mika are very creative.

Kinda Like It
dineenwil-8997722 February 2022
I only half like it. The hosts are likeable funny people. They build nice homes together. My favorite husband and wife team HGTV show is "Married to Real Estate". They showcase a balance of the client, the realtor's aspect, and building the home for the client. It's just better than this show does it. My only real fault with this show is too much time is spent on the couple-couch-time, their longgg "sidebars". The show's focus, on most episodes, is set too much on the hosts' comments. They talk too much more than they show. But the homes look beautiful, I give them that.

ARE BRIAN AND MIKA REALLY MARRIED
landscp14 March 2022
They (she) interacts more like brother and sister rather than husband and wife????

There is very little on screen PDA. For example Ben and Erin(Hometown); Nathan and Jerimiah; Chip and Joanna Gaines; Egypt and Mike, even Christina and Tarek, who are now divorced, even show more affection and care for one another than Mika does toward Brian.

I saw an episode where Brian affectionately leaned in to kiss Mika on the cheek, and she moved away.

On another episode he tried to carry her over the threshold, and she commented "were way past that." And there are so many other examples.

Perhaps i'm making more of this than is necessary, but IMO, when you see the other couples' interaction, Mika's seemingly cold and stand-offish attitude toward Brian really stands out.

Lots of filler and not enough design/build
txriverotter19 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've grown so tired of this show. There's so much phony filler, fake "problems" to be solved with calls to buyers, and other nonsense, there isn't near enough of the design and build.

Not that there is much in the way of design. I hate to say it but white on white on white on white on white ad infinitum, is not design. There's very little color added in to these homes.

The husband is especially annoying with his over-the-top cutesy, trying too hard to be funny phoniness, but her obvious faked excitement at steps the homeowners take to make the simplest decisions, isn't great either.

And some of the homeowners they work with, holy moly, are they rude. The one episode with the "farmers" who had ten cows that Brian was supposedly so obsessed with he couldn't pay attention to his build, anyway, the wife walks in to the very first design meeting she had a pissy look on her face. And you could just tell she wasn't gonna like ANYTHING Mika showed them, and she didn't. She had a dirty look on her face the entire time they met, every time. I am not near patient enough to put up with that, so more power to Mika and those that do this. You've got more endurance than I do, in that regard.

Overall, though, this show has just begun to irritate me to the point I'm fast-forwarding thru most of it to get to the "showing" at the end. When I get to that point, I usually just drop the show from my watchlist completely.

Poorly designed
mehrh9 March 2021
Have watched a few episodes (to be honest I don't even know how I got through them). All the homes look poorly designed and poorly decorated. Wouldn't consider them professionals at all. I thought HGTV was meant to be inspirational. Instead this show demonstrates everything you shouldn't do. Both the hosts lacked any design sense.

Architects they're NOT
GNickL18 April 2022
Middling personalities, below-average talent.

IDK why all of these HGTV teams have to married, although like others here have said, they don't act like they're married.

Watching an episode where a couple buys an undistinguished lot with a cute bungalow on it...only to tear down the bungalow. Why not save a hundred thousand or two and buy an empty lot? Idiotic.

There seems to be no planned filming schedule because there's hardly anything ever going on and they waste loads of time on minor details. Now they're showing the guy buying water for the crew...really? And now they're shopping.

A builder and a realtor do NOT add up to an architect. Realtors sell houses, they don't design them and she obviously doesn't have the chops to be designing or decorating houses. The problem with most of the developers in the US is that they think they don't need qualified, trained architects and as a result design dumb, boring houses. This show is marginally better than HGTV's standard fare, but these two still produce cookie cutter, latest boring all-white fads.

Meh
averagebear6 March 2024
Just another "we can redo your home to whatever we want". Nothing new, exciting or innovative here. The hosts are boring and immediately forgettable. The house redos/rebuilds seems completely unrealistic, especially all in 100 days. The houses end up looking fake and unlivable. This is a hard pass. Just one more HGTV borefest. Nothing worth wasting your time on. Maybe if they actually gave the homeowners what they wanted? They put a coffee maker and jar of coffee beans on a shelving unit and called it a "coffee bar". Problem is, there was no outlet anywhere near it to plug in the coffee maker but nothing was mentioned about that......
