No one seeems to know how guns work
jsrtheta23 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I write in response to to the existing reviews, which demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of how guns work.

One reviewer complains that the shooter, who is armed with a rifle among other things, should have been taken down by the cops using handguns. Another complains that the bad guy has his head and neck exposed, and implies that shooting him was a breeze.

This is simply ignorant. When you are firing at a gunman with a handgun, you don't take head shots, because they are almost impossible to make. Shooting someone in the neck is even harder. It would have taken a miracle to hit a subject in the neck or head. These armchair sharpshooters betray a complete lack of understanding of how a firefight goes. If you are only armed with a pistol, versus a rifle, your odds of killing the shooter are minimal at best.

Equally at sea is the claim that the cops should have shot the bag the shooter had. If these reviewers think that just shooting a bag with pipe bombs will result in an instant explosion, they are wrong. Shooting a propane tank does not cause a huge explosions. Nor does shooting a pipe bomb.

Television is replete with bad ballistics. Shooting lights out with a gun does not result in spectacular fireworks. It just results in those lights going out. And if you shoot someone who is standing still, they do not go flying backward: They just fall straight down in a heap. If they are running toward you, they fall forward, not backward.

A great episode, but

Warning: Spoilers
I think it was a very amazing episode. However my favorite episode of this fourth season was "Cherry bomb". That episode was on my mind for days!

I'm never disappointed with this show and this season finale was very surprising. It's not very common to see the team firing their weapons and dealing with life or death situations themselves. My only problem comes when we see that while there are two police officers in the main entrance of the shopping mall, they are firing the kid. We all could hear the shot fires, except for the other six officers that move very slowly on the top of the roof. And when they finally come across with the shooter, not any of them can shoot the kid or the bag for that matter. Aren't they supposed to be trained for that? All of them have an awfully poor aim!

Mediocre episode with hilariously dumb ending

Warning: Spoilers
Are there any Razzies for TV series? The final shootout is likely the most incompetent action scene I have seen in ages. Everyone here is careful to act as unrealistic and stupid as possible. The team moves extremely slowly onto the roof, while the shooter is audibly firing at the civilians in the very distant background - yet nobody feels any need to rush. When they do find him, he has a magical forcefield called a "bullet proof vest", so none of the highly trained officers can hit his arms, legs, head, gun - NO hits from any bullets while the kid patiently stands still for what feels like eternity. In the whole mall scene he has 6 different people unloading various magazines onto him, and he never even flinches or gets so much as a scratch on him. They manage to hit the "vest" once though. It has to be seen to be believed, this is a baffling combination of incompetence in the script, continuity, direction and editing of the scene.

Exciting episode is flat-out stupid!
thedreamer61 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
At the end of the episode, a teen on a mall roof is picking people off like flies, yet two professional officers below are totally incapable of shooting him because of bad aim, even though his upper body is fully visible! Then, an "old pro" detective later races into the open, knowing the shooter is close by, running toward a bag he knows is full of explosives! He ends up getting a fellow officer seriously wounded because of his stupidity. And then, even though the teen is in full open view of all of the six officers around him on the roof, none of them are able to shoot him or his bag of explosives as he prepares a bomb! Yes, he has body armor on, but he had no head or arm protection on. At this point he'd already shot numerous innocent people and was preparing to set off a pipe bomb, why would an officer not take him down?! I don't get it! This was a great story that got spoiled by totally stupid writing and I sincerely hope somebody from the show eventually realized that. I like "The Closer" but this episode was a waste of my time & patience. I feel sorry for all the authority figures out there who know this particular story makes them look incompetent.

Worst shootout scene in history!
CrimeDrama19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The gunman is wearing armor but nothing on his head PLUS he is acting like he doesn't care that police are shooting at him. Police can't hit his head or neck and can't even hit his duffel bag when he runs to detonate a pipe bomb. Probably over 100 missed shot opportunities on one virtually stationary target. Gabriel finally appears to hit his mark. The episode should've ended with a scene featuring Chief Pope telling everyone to re-qualify for their firearm certification.
