Shallow and Predictable, but Delightfully Entertaining
claudio_carvalho23 October 2009
In Rio de Janeiro, the sensitive Pedro (Selton Mello) worships his wife Marina (Maria Luisa Mendonça) and expects to have a conventional married life with children. His next door neighbor Vitoria (Maria Manoella), who is married with a rude detective, dreams on the romanticism of Pedro and listens to him through the wall between her kitchen and his living room. When Marina discloses to Pedro that she is pregnant of her German lover and leaves Pedro, he becomes depressed, but his best friend Carlos (Vladimir Brichta) convinces him to have sex with many women. However Pedro has a breakdown; quits his job; and decides to stay alone. One night, the beautiful and sexy neighbor Amanda (Luana Piovani) knocks on Pedro's front door and asks for a cup of sugar. They immediately fall in love for each other and Pedro recovers the meaning of his life; but Carlos discovers that Amanda exists only in Pedro's imagination and that his friend is actually disturbed. When Pedro finds the truth, he becomes confused and without sense of reality. Meanwhile Vitoria's husband dies and her sister Lucia (Fernanda Torres) convinces her to meet Pedro; but the guy is not sure that Vitoria does exist.

"A Mulher Invisível" is shallow and predictable, but the funny and simple story is delightfully entertaining. This movie works basically because of the performance of the great Brazilian actor Selton Mello and the beauty of the sexy Luana Piovani that is indeed the personification of a perfect woman. The sweet Maria Manoella is also gorgeous and completes very well the triangle of love that Pedro gets involved. I am a big fan of Janis Joplin and I love the wonderful song "A Woman Left Lonely"; but the international soundtrack seems to be out of the context of a Brazilian movie that should have promoted Brazilian singers and bands instead. My vote is seven.

Funny, but very predictable
misalima17 June 2009
The director Cláudio Torres, writer and director from Redentor(2004), joins to the Globo Filmes Studio and, unfortunately, brings to the cine screens, just another romantic comedy. But, with Selton Melo and Luana Piovanni, this takes a different way. Clever and fast, the movie is very hot. Piovanni shows her very gorgeous curves, with lingeries and dresses a little bit short. If your girlfriend don't slap you in the face, you will be lucky.

Of course, with Globo Filmes in the credits, you know how is it going to end. Like Claudio Torres said "I wanna do a movie that people will see, like and laugh. Not for the festivals, but for the people." That's enough for me.

Warning: Spoilers
Pedro believed in a perfect life and marriage, until the day his wife abandons him to live with another man. He stays depressed for months, but one day,his beautiful unknown neighbor Amanda knocks his door and asks for a cup of sugar. Amanda is beautiful, hot, caring, always available and a big companion, what makes her perfect. Pedro is pretty sure that she exits, spite of his friend Carlos' point of view that she only exists in his imagination.

''A Mulher Invisível '' is one of the funniest Brazilian movies I had the pleasure to see in a long time, even being predictable in some ways. It had a lot of people in the movie theaters( more people than in many international movies!) and it is one of the Brazilian movies that made more success in the last years. Selton Mello ( as always) is great in his role of a problematic man and Luava Piovani is even more beautiful than in the last movies I watched her.

I am very happy to see how the Brazilian productions are raising and becoming better along the years, and I need to say that the Genre Comedy is a great bet for the national cinema!

For those who want to watch a light and sweet comedy, this movie is a great option.

The ideal comedy

I will not explain the whole story of the film in this evaluation of mine, as I see no need for that, curious people who go and watch. Very good plot, excellent actors and actresses, Luana Piovani ... my friends, what a woman, really the ideal woman in the heads of some men (mine too)! However, what a performance by Fernanda Torres and Maria Manoella, so Fernanda won the award for best actress, very deserved. This film really portrays what goes on in the minds of some men (including mine), especially at that young age, where you want to have an ideal woman but then, you realize that the ideal woman does not exist, that the name itself says, ideal of IDEA, something in your head!

Predictable ? so what,, at least is funny
exsk87 November 2009
All comments highlighted the fact that the movie is Predictable, but so what, at least is funny and have a little potential to pay himself in theaters, and besides, the role Film making industrie in Brazil is predictable 'cause the movies have almost two directions to follow: Crime or Poverty.

Just look at the list of movies that represented Brazil in Oscar Awards, they're always about this two subjects. I'm always glad when we could see something else.

Besides all that, I tought Selton Mello performances very good, not espetacular, but good enough and Luana Piovani, well, the acting is regular, but her looks compensates the acting.
