AEW Double or Nothing 2021 Thoughts

AEW Double or Nothing 2021 was the 3rd Annual Double or Nothing taking place on May 30, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida. It's the first event of AEW PPV to be held in full capacity since Revolution 2020. It was an emotional night seeing the fans. At the same time I was in a bit of jealousy as I actually could have been there if I hadn't just left a week earlier from Florida. A total of 9 matches took place on the main card as well as an NWA Women's Championship Match taking place on the Buy In.

The Good - Again seeing fans was sooo emotional and it felt like it's been a decade. The fans were one of the best things of the show. AEW were often praised for how hyped up crowds were compared to WWE. This basically affected AEW more during the pandemic as Crowds were literally a thing to describe AEW. The card was solid. The Triple Threat Match for the AEW World Championship was an all time great and the first 5 star World Title Match I'd given AEW in history books. All 3 stars showed excellent chemistry and was something people wanted to see fight forever. The Tag Team Championship match was awesome. I really thought Moxley & Kingston were going to win. Young Bucks can be a bit boring at times but when being technical and not flippy all the time, they can have great matches. This was an example. The Women's Championship Victory of Britt Baker was emotional as she is by far the best female Wrestler on the roster. She was the right choice of taking the belt from Shida. The match it self was slow at first but it got good later. Great opener of Adam Page & Brian Cage and a great tag team match of Sting & Allen vs. Sky & Ethan went good (especially Sting who looked like he haven't aged).

The Meh - I thought the Stampede match was good and entertaining. It did go on pretty late but still was enjoyable. The Casino got saved by the ending of Jungle Boy (who's extremely underrated) and Christian Cage (who did an excellent job at putting over JB). Great option for winner. Miro vs. Lance Archer could have been a little better. Crowd didn't seem as into it but it was great to see Miro come in on a championship victory on PPV.

The Bad - Cody Rhodes vs. Anthony Ogogo was petty lame. I usually defend Cody as he's done an excellent job at putting over talent since his arrival whether he wins or lose but this was a bad choice of victory for Cody. The match itself was also pretty bland and no one seemed to care for it. I expect some mix reactions for Cody pretty soon. Lio Rush was the surprise Joker and it was a disappointing surprised as he was eliminated quickly. Hell he even botched twice in the ring less than 1 minute. And he's very talented. Last the show was great but it was getting past it's time at the time of the Stampede Stadium Match. AEW is usually perfect at timing but this was a near downfall.

Overall - A much better PPV than Revolution. Such a near perfect show and is definitely a candidate for PPV of the year along with WrestleMania. 5 star match did a huge number on this show as well as attendance. Is it the best Double or Nothing ever? Maybe. 2019 feels soo long ago in the wrestling world. But definitely one of the best AEW events in a long time.

Double or Nothing

Warning: Spoilers
It was a solid show, but heavily overrated on the internet.

The Stadium Stampede was too much this year, and Orange Cassidy being in a title match is embarrassing. Other than that it was good.

This is the best AEW PPV that they have done so far, so many great matches and moments, the first show back with a live crowd, the roster made this show fantastic and it was so freaking awesome one of the best wrestling shows I have ever seen.
