- Heidi explains that the designers will be creating a look for a high-powered and glamorous, professional woman. With big names such as Hilary Clinton and Joan Rivers racing through their minds, the designers meet Tim back at the workroom who introduces Brooke Shields. Their next challenge is to work in teams of two to design a look for Brooke's character, Wendy Healy, on the show Lipstick Jungle. After having 30 minutes to sketch, each designer has an opportunity to pitch their concepts to Brooke who will then select six to move forward with their designs.
- Grab your fabric. Fire up your sewing machine. Steal yourself a German accent. THIS is "Project Runway."
Korto plans to "leave the drama" to everyone else and enjoy her immunity. Daniel, meanwhile, laments his poor performance last week and vows to stay out of the bottom half.
It's model-picking time. Korto keeps her model, meaning Alex heads home. One double-cheek kiss with Heidi later, Alex is gone. The contestants, meanwhile, get word of their next challenge.
"You will be designing for a high powered and glamorous professional woman," Heidi said.
Nancy Grace? Joan Rivers? Sharon Osbourne? Hillary Clinton? The designers want to know. Tim enters ... along with Brooke Shields! Faster than you can say shameless corporate tie-in, Brooke tells the contestants that they will be creating an outfit for her character on "Lipstick Jungle."
The catch: They'll be working in pairs.
"I know that some of the designers don't really know what they're doing, so I got worried," Kenley says.
Tim explains that the teams will have 30 minutes to sketch before pitching their concepts to Brooke. The TV star will then pick six to complete with the losing six will act as assistants. The sketching begins! One montage of intense sketching action later, Tim declares that time is up.
Suede pitches first. "Big fan," he tells Brooke. His design: a jacket with a pointed collar. Kelli, wearing leopard print, pitches leopard print. Kenley likes the "boat neck" look. Terri has a belted, pants look. Blayne favors a "Bermuda shorts" ensemble. Daniel is thinking about a "ruffled chiffon shirt." Keith calls "layers of fringe" his thing.
Stella pitches a corset ... causing Brooke's famous eyebrows to arch. Korto goes for an orange or lime green shirt with some "bead work." Joe has a tuxedo-inspired shirt with jacket. Leanne goes for something "really comfortable" in an elegant dress with plunging neckline. Jarell wants to keep it in "khakis."
Decision time. Brooke chooses the following as team leaders: Keith, Korto, Jarell, Kelli, Terri and Blayne. Brooke will wear the winning creation on the second season of that show that she has come to promote. The contestants go nuts!
Back from commercial break, the team leaders choose their temporary mates. Blayne picks Leanne. Keith takes Kenley. Terri chooses Suede. Korto goes with Joe. Kelli opts for Daniel. Jarell, who is going to use leather, takes Stella.
Shopping time! The contestants hit the shelves, pulling fabrics and freely expressing their opinions ... too freely for some.
"Kenley has such a strong option about things that it's almost insulting at times," Keith says.
Work time! Tim enters to "underscore what a huge opportunity this challenge represents." As a result, NO IMMUNITY. The promise of TV exposure (beyond the present) is "big enough."
The partners immediately begin to butt heads. Suede worries that Terri doesn't have enough fabric for her elaborate top. Terri is less than understanding, saying: "I ain't got no babies, ain't nobody sucking on my (BLEEPS) so please, man up."
Kenley, meanwhile, is exerting that famously strong will of hers on Keith. On the flip side, Jarell and Stella seem to working together like a well-oiled piece of leather. Suddenly, Tim enters with a surprise: models! The teams do some early fitting work ... and Kelli notices that her skirt is "destroyed." She blames Daniel. "It looks horrid and he seems to think he can make it work," she says. "My ass is totally on the line here."
Terri is equally as upset. Her top for Brooke is "jacked up." "Everything that Suede seems to be touching is not gold," she says. Suede grabs his dyed Mohawk in frustration.
Back from break, Tim arrives to inspect. He loves Blayne's design but urges him to "dress up the skirt." He loves the "whole palate" of Jarell's creation. He is dubious of Kelli's creation, but thinks the neckline of Terri's dress is "gorgeous." He thinks Keith's design is "fabulous." Finally, he compares Korto's top to a "big sweet potato." Ouch.
The next morning, the designers return to finish the challenge. Tensions are running high, but "it's all coming together" as super-tan Blayne explains. The models, meanwhile, go through the hair-and-makeup machine. Time is up. The outfits are done, dude. Or as done as they're going to get anyway.
Back from break, Heidi welcomes the competitors, says her line and introduces the judges: Michael, Nina and Brooke. "Let's start the show," Heidi says.
The models strut. The contestants are, as usual, overwhelmed by their own creations. But what will the judges say?
The scores have been tallied. Heidi asks the following teams to step forward: Jerell and Stella, Kelli and Daniel, Keith and Kenley and Blayne and Leanne. These good people represent the highest and the lowest scores. Everyone else, safe for the week, leaves the stage.
"One of you will be named the winner and one of you ... will be out," Heidi says. Hmm, seems like we've heard that a time or two hundred before.
Jerell and Stella are first on the hot seat. Brooke likes the outfit but is "concerned about the belt." Heidi, on the other hand, loves the belt. Michael finds it "chic and good looking."
Kelli and Daniel are up next. Brooke says it looks "so much cheaper" than she thought it would. Michael calls the teeny, tiny top "slutty, slutty, slutty." Kelli winces. Daniel appears terrified.
Keith and Kenley step up. Brooke says their outfit looks "rich and expensive. "Nina says it's "almost cocktail" but "absolutely beautiful." Michael, keeping it simple, calls the creation "great."
Blayne and Leanne come forward. Brooke say the ensemble is "too casual and not sophisticated enough." Nina accuses the two of "not listening" to Brooke's initial instructions. Heidi says the model looks like a woman who "didn't have a mirror." Oh, snap!
The contestants leave the stage so that the judges can dish. Jerell and Stella get high marks. Keith and Kenley also fare well. Daniel-Kelli and Blayne-Leanne ... not so much.
Back from break, Brooke congratulates the winner ... Keith.
"I did it," he says. "It's going to be on a national TV show. That's rockin'."
Jerell and Stella receive a "good work" and leave the runway.
Leanne is ... in.
Daniel is ... in.
Kelli and Blayne remain.
"Kelli, your construction was questionable but your taste level is leaving us questioning even more," Heidi says. "Blayne, you left us speechless today and we wonder if you can ever step outside of yourself as a designer."
Decision time.
"Blayne, you're in," Heidi says.
Kelli is out. Goodbye, Columbus.
"I at least took a risk, even if it was too hoochie mama," Kelli says.
With that, we say auf Wiedersehen.
