- Rodney is infected with a deadly illness known as "second childhood" which diminishes his mind capabilities and makes him lose his memory gradually.
- While on an off-world mission, Rodney McKay acquires a parasitic organism and over a period of a few weeks, degenerates into a child-like reverie. His sister Jeannie travels to Atlantis to be with him in what everyone believes will be his final few days. Ronon, however, recalls a fable from his youth of a shrine where people reverting to their childhood much like McKay could go with their friends and family and become lucid for one last day. It works but McKay isn't too keen on it being his last day of life and Dr. Keller suggests that the only other option is for her to operate.—garykmcd
- ****SPOILER ALERT ****** details will be revealled
McKay suffers a dementia-like memory loss illness. Not recognised in time, the doctor misses the chance to remove the parastitic host that's infecting him. Ronan recalls a magical shrine where his grandfather regained full functions for a day, until he died, honourably, as the man he was. The team decide to take McKay to the shrine so that they can all say their goodbyes to Rodney. Naturally, the planet is under wraith control, so the danger is enormous. The plan works, and Rodney becomes well again - but only as long as he is within the reach of the highly specialised radioactive properties of the rocks surrounding the shrine. Discovering that it is this radiation that the parasite shrinks to get away from, the team hatches a plan to try to operate on Rodney in situ, in spite of the obvious dangers that he would face, not least from infection. With Shepherd holding him down, the doc drills into Rodney's skull. Suddenly they realise that the parasite is moving - not into the brain but heading for the holes she has drilled in order to escape from the radiation. Once it's free of Rodney's head, Ronan blasts it and kills it. The team can return to Atlantis and Rodney is once again, restored to normal.
