Following the cancellations of ABC’s “Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep” in May, both series are being pulled off Hulu as part of Disney’s ongoing review and removal of content in an effort to cut costs.
The shows, which were initially set to remain on the streamer until September, will now be removed next month. However, they will still be available through iTunes and Amazon.
Other impacted shows include the Rashida Jones comedy “Angie Tribeca,” NBC’s “Blindspot,” Samantha Bee and Jason Jones’ “The Detour” and TNT’s “The Last Ship,” which will be removed on July 1.

Disney is going there, you guys.
As previously teased during the company's quarter one earnings call, the company is purging several titles from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu.
The practice has become common in recent months, with HBO Max leading the charge, wiping several projects from existence.
Undoubtedly, fans and creatives are struggling with the concept, but maybe some of the affected shows could show up elsewhere.
"We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion," Disney's chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, said during the earnings call.
Westworld, The Nevers, and other HBO fare popped back up on Fast services shortly after the controversial decision.
But for some shows, this could be the death knell that could be the difference whether new fans find them down the line.

Disney did a little (late) spring cleaning of its streaming services this week, removing several properties from Disney+ and Hulu. Among those that will go on May 26 include some high profile recent shows like “Willow,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Dollface,” and “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.” What makes this troubling for many home viewers who may have been fans (or even stans!) of the affected programs is that, in most cases, there are no Blu-ray/DVD options. In the old days you could always hit record on your Vcr to build a personal library, but it’s not so easy to capture material from streaming—and the whole point of streaming is not needing to do that, right?
As per The Verge, Disney’s cost-cutting is due to a reduction in Disney+ subscribers, to the tune of 4 million in 2023. While the company will have to pay a “content impairment charge” of over $1.5 billion,...

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Add Disney+ and Hulu to the list of streamers whose complete slate of original shows and films is no longer guaranteed to be there the next time you go looking for it. According to Vulture, the Disney-owned streamers are set to remove some titles from their catalog as soon as next week. The list of titles includes the high-budget "Willow" sequel series, the Danny Devito-led animated series "Little Demon," and the highly-anticipated yet swiftly canceled comic adaptation, "Y: The Last Man," among others.
While this content purge follows in the footsteps of Warner Bros Discovery's much-criticized decision to make select titles disappear from streaming for tax reasons last year, Vulture reports that the Disney+ and Hulu titles are likely set to resurface elsewhere — a guarantee that HBO Max was slow to make when its content started to disappear. Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more. Considering that Willow premiered on Disney+ less than a year ago… it hurts.

Freeform’s comedy series Single Drunk Female got off a promising ratings start. The January 20 launch has amassed over 2.4 million multiplatform viewers in Live+7, according to Nielsen and Freeform, marking the network’s biggest comedy premiere since the Jan. 3, 2018 debut of grown-ish more than four years ago.
The opening episode also was the most-watched Freeform comedy series premiere on Hulu, and the second-best performance overall for a Freeform series premiere on the platform, behind only Cruel Summer, which averaged 3.81 million multi-platform viewers in its first week.
There is a caveat. Freeform has only launched one comedy series since grown-ish, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, plus the pandemic-themed 2020 entry Love in the Time of Corona. Still, Single Drunk Female‘s performance is respectable for a comedy on basic cable which traditionally are hard to launch. It complements the show’s critical success with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

As the entertainment industry was in the thick of figuring out how to make content during a pandemic, the creators behind three disparate television projects — HBO’s Coastal Elites, Netflix’s Social Distance and Freeform’s Love in the Time of Corona — took the challenge further: They figured out how to craft content about the pandemic, even as the world seemed to be in a constant state of change.
Covid-19 had set back plans to shoot a stage version of Coastal Elites, screenwriter Paul Rudnick’s collection of scathingly funny and poignant sociopolitical monologues. But HBO devised a plan to safely film ...

It didn’t take long for coronavirus content to descend on networks and streaming services. From Connecting… to Love in the Time of Corona and beyond, these shows and films mined the calamitous virus like one would a new trend, attempting to extract meaning from the mayhem and reexamining everyday life under altered conditions. It’s hard to predict which of these projects will stand the test of time, but 7 Days, a charming romantic comedy about an Indian couple forced to shelter in place after their first date, deserves to be among those with at least some staying power.

Amazon Solos review is here. The American dramatic anthology is created by David Weil and produced by Amazon Studios. The anthology stars Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Helen Mirren, Uzo Aduba, Anthony Mackie, Constance Wu, Dan Stevens and Nicole Beharie. The seven-episode series premiered on May 21, 2021 on Prime Video.

A Covid times sci-fi realisation with A listers like Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway along with Helen Mirren, Uzo Aduba, Anthony Mackie, Constance Wu, Dan Stevens and Nicole Beharie starring in a monologue competition inspired from Black Mirror is more stars but less shine.
Another reason why monologues are suited best for theatre, this monologue-driven, one set, weird and vague sci-fi anthology drama that bites more than it can chew only to excite a wannabe teen actor to indulge in videos showing different moods.
Even though flirting with the Black Mirror inspired near-future setting, Solo's seed of idea is exciting and...

Necessity is the mother of invention, but not necessarily of good TV. The programming that came out of the early Covid production restrictions — Social Distance, Love in the Time of Corona, those together-apart reunions of 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation — are in retrospect some of the least essential shows of 2020. And yet a new frontrunner emerges in that race for dispensability: Amazon’s Solos, a monologue-driven, single-set, vaguely sci-fi anthology drama that might inspire even the most earnest acting student to roll their eyes at its lazy self-indulgence and overwrought intensity.

The network has also named Jihan Robinson vice president of alternative programming, where she will oversee nonfiction and alternative content, reporting to Hunter.
“Jamila is a beloved and experienced executive with impeccable taste and relationships. It’s a coup for us to have her at Freeform, where she regularly demonstrates strong leadership and a genuine enthusiasm for our brand,” said Freeform president Tara Duncan. “As we venture into non-fiction, it was crucial to find an executive with a finger on the pulse of what’s relevant. Shia Labeouf and Margaret Qualley went full frontal for the new music video from Qualley’s sister, the recording artist known as Rainsford, “Love Me Like You Hate Me.” Shooting earlier this fall during quarantine, the filmmakers kept a tight set, with just a handful of people in the room, to allow the actors to bare their souls (and much more) for a short film that charts the highs and lows of a toxic yet addictive relationship. It released on October 23.
Eagle-eyed viewers might remember Rainsford from “Severance,” the final season premiere of TV’s “Mad Men,” starring as a lithe and slightly mischievous young woman modeling a fur coat for ad executive Don Draper, and looking like she has a secret. She’s also had appearances in “Mighty Fine” and “Ocean’s 8,” and has a role in the upcoming Freeform rom-com series “Love in the Time of Corona,” but...

NBC has pulled its socially distant comedy “Connecting” from its primetime lineup.
The series will air its final four episodes on Peacock and NBC.com. It had been airing on Thursday nights at 8:30 p.m. Episodes of “Superstore” will air in its place through Nov. 19.
“Connecting…” debuted to a paltry 0.3 rating among adults 18-49 and just 1.6 million total viewers earlier this month. That makes it the least-watched new series premiere on broadcast thus far this fall. It was boosted in its second week by the Trump Town Hall on NBC as its lead-in but fell again after that.
“Connecting” was an ensemble comedy about a group of friends trying to stay close (and sane) through video chats during the Covid-19 pandemic. It starred Otmara Marrero, Preacher Lawson, Shakina Nayfack, Parvesh Cheena, Ely Henry, Jill Knox and Keith Powell.

Photo: 'Social Distance'/Netflix 2020 has been an especially difficult year for the entire world, due to the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn. The entertainment industry is one of the industries which have been hit the hardest, with halted productions, postponed releases, and widespread layoffs. In this climate, it has become essential for businesses to evolve and adapt to this unconventional situation. The entertainment industry has started creating socially distanced pandemic-themed shows such as Love in The Time of Corona (streaming on Hulu) and NBC’s Connecting. Netflix has also joined the game with their latest offering, 'Social Distance'. Social Distance is a dark and humorous anthology show, portraying how different kinds of people are dealing with the pandemic and the resulting lockdowns/quarantines. The show is created by Hilary Weisman Graham, whose most notable body of work is Netflix’s own Orange is the New Black.

As TV shows begin to return to air this fall, showrunners have had to decide whether or not to incorporate the coronavirus pandemic into their future storylines. While some have opted for an escapist path, others have opted to tackle the virus head-on. From video chat-inspired comedies about quarantine to medical dramas facing the biggest medical story in generation, here’s how shows are incorporating Covid-19 into upcoming episodes.
Several series directly addressing the coronavirus pandemic have cropped up in recent months, beginning with Freeform’s “Love in the Time of Corona” back in August. Filmed entirely in quarantine using remote technology and actors in their homes performing opposite their real-life loved ones, the series was one of the first scripted programs to document the early days of lockdown.
Unlike “Love in the Time of Corona,” NBC’s “Connecting…” used a Zoom-inspired format, featuring its characters in small on-screen boxes talking directly to camera.

An understandable if tricky to navigate instinct during these many months of quarantine is the instinct to create meaningful art out of These Times. Even as the entire world goes on pause, creativity marches stubbornly on, hoping to make sense out of senseless things. But with no end in sight, it’s just about impossible for any art about the pandemic made during the pandemic to shed much light on what’s happening besides the fact that everyone feels like they’re losing their minds. That’s held true for TV shows about life in isolation that lean heavily on social distancing and Zoom. Something like Freeform’s “Love in the Time of Corona” or HBO’s “Coastal Elites,” while well-intentioned, failed to capture much about this era beyond the fact that it’s surreal. On the face of it, “Connecting…”, NBC’s new show about socially distanced friends shot in quarantine,...

ABC is developing a sitcom about families returning to “everyday life” after lockdown, TheWrap has learned.

Nedaa Sweiss, a veteran of “The Late Late Show With James Corden” and head writer of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” will serve as writer and executive producer on the project from ABC Signature.
“Transparent” veteran Nisha Ganatra is attached to direct and executive produce via her company Ladies’ Car Productions. David Bernad and Ruben Fleischer of The District also serve as executive producers on the comedy.

When I heard the concepts for the show Love in the Time of Corona and film Coastal Elites, I thought I was in for heartwarmingly interconnected stories in the vein of Love Actually. With Love in the Time of Corona, that's exactly what I was getting! With Coastal Elites, it was something else entirely. Yet with both the show and the film, all I could focus on was the backdrop of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Instead of rooting for Love in the Time of Corona's Oscar (Tommy Dorfman) and Elle's (Rainey Qualley) respective romances, I was thinking about how unlucky in love my quarantine swiping had been. Rather than relating to (or laughing along at the satirical take of) Coastal Elites's Mark (Daniel Levy) or Clarissa (Sarah Paulson), it made me feel like I was being pandered to in a way I hadn't asked for. A range of stars, including Bette Midler and Issa Rae, act out clunky monologues in a tone-deaf attempt to speak to a divided America
The questions of who a work of art is for and what it’s meant to accomplish usually prove germane in the process of criticism, and particularly so in the case of HBO’s new small-screen movie Coastal Elites. At least director Jay Roach and writer Paul Rudnick make that first part answered easily enough; this collection of monologues filmed in quarantine was originally supposed to go up as a play at New York’s Public Theater, and from the winking eponymous epithet on down, the writing plays to the sort of person one thinks of when picturing the typical patron of Broadway’s latest sensation du jour.

In Love in the Time of Corona, we got to see Rainey Qualley and Tommy Dorfman play best friends, but in real life, Rainey considers her sister, actress Margaret Qualley, her "best friend" and "the most inspiring, beautiful, talented, [and] fiercely smart person" she knows. Over the years, the pair has had their fair share of red carpet appearances alongside their mom Andie MacDowell, but as they've gotten older, they've become stars in their own right: Margaret with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Rainey releasing music as Rainsford. They also make sure to frequently show support for one another, as Rainey often posts about her sister on Instagram and Margaret once acted as craft services during an intimate music video shoot for Rainey's song "Crying in the Mirror." You can see some of the sisters' sweetest snaps ahead.

Let’s face it, Covid-19 has been hard on everyone. Even if you or someone you know haven’t been diagnosed with the virus, the effects of Covid can be felt in our daily lives. As a result, many people have turned to TV to keep them occupied and provide an escape. Unfortunately though, Covid has shut down production across the industry, which has forced actors and networks to get creative. One of the results of that creativity is a new mini series called Love in the Time of Corona. As the name suggests, the show focuses on characters who are trying

It only took a few weeks of social distancing to make the world that existed before Covid-19 feel absurdly out of reach. After building new routines of donning face masks and frantically wiping down precious groceries, a reality with dive bars, concerts and dinner parties becomes more and more abstract, not to mention painful to recall. Watching “Love in the Time of Corona” feels just as disorienting as that, but for the early days of quarantine in which sourdough bread reigned supreme and there was some vague hope that All of This might be over sooner rather than later. Filmed and set in the first months of the pandemic, Freeform’s new miniseries focuses on four households grinning and bearing it through the beginning of our new normal. Without enough time and retrospect to give its stories more depth — we are, after all, nowhere near beyond the scope of this...
