Mike runs into Susan's new boyfriend Jackson Braddock on the walk wearing her shortie robe. Susan overhears them talking from her bed and peeks outside and predictably freaks out. She runs out and dissembles about Jackson, saying he's nice. Mike says that's fine but he needs to hang with him to make sure, especially if he's going to be sleeping in the same house with his son. Susan says he doesn't get to decide things like that. Mike threatens their custody agreement saying he needs to be satisfied with who she exposes MJ too. She goes back in and alerts Jackson about Mike's man-date, mandate. Jackson goes out yet again to get the paper and this time runs into MJ. Jackson, Mary Alice tells us, has a great smile and is very romantic but has a terrible sense of timing.
Mary Alice talks about good neighbors as we see Susan help Lynette with groceries, Tom drop off mail to Carlos, and Parker offer to mow Bree's lawn. In the present, Dave, Edie's new husband, is helping Katherine change a lightbulb. Edie, however, is in a tizzy because McCluskey teased her about her boobs and she wants to pack up and move. She's mad that no one has noticed how much she's changed. Dave tries to console her. She asks him not to use his "motivational" voice. She relents and asks why he wanted to move here. He says they can be happy here and she needs to give it time. He promises that he'll personally see to it that people start treating her with respect. She points out that he didn't answer her question. "Didn't I?" he asks. (And still doesn't really answer).
Gaby is happy to open the mail and see an invite to a swanky party. She goes in to tell Carlos about how she'll have to buy something nice to wear and she freaks because Carlos - who is apparently now a masseuse- is giving an old man a massage and Gaby saw under his towel. In the kitchen they argue about their finances. He says he's not taking the job as a masseuse at the country club (where he could make more money). He likes being home with her and the kids. Gaby, however, is not so happy about that. She says she misses shopping. She begs him. He says he will take it.
Jackson is trying out outfits for his man-date. Susan is "helping." She also gives him acceptable topics of conversation: football, cars, barbecue, fishing. He says he's not going to pretend to be someone he's not. Then she tells him about Mike's custody threat- and how she would pick her son over him- and then he acquiesces.
Lynette walks into one of the twins' room with laundry. She wants to know if Porter knows anything about his "friend" Jimmy who got busted for dealing drugs at school. He sullenly says the kid was his friend only like a million years ago. So Lynette, goes into Parker's room to snoop via sibling. Parker offers to check Porter's "friend" list on "Silverfizz." (It's like Myspace). She gets intrigued and wants to figure out how to finagle an "invitation" to be his friend.
In the Hodge house Bree is showing Orson and Andrew the very prim cover of "Mrs. Van de Kamp's Old-Fashioned Cooking." Andrew loves it but Orson objects to her using her old last name. She adores him but thinks that Van de Kamp rolls off the tongue while Hodge is less melodious. She's also super busy and unable to make it up to him through cooking. She promises she will.
Dave goes to visit McCluskey and set her straight about respecting Edie. McCluskey says this is what they do, they kid each other about being slutty and old. Dave wants her to apologize anyway so Edie feels loved. McCluskey says if the rules are changing Edie needs to tell her herself and thinks Dave has a lot of nerve talking to her like this when he doesn't even know her. Dave says he does know, better than she thinks. He makes observations about her loneliness based on her talking to her cat and the pictures on the walls. He picks up her cat and says he thinks a woman like her would want to keep the few friends she has left. McCluskey gets the implied threat, takes the cat, and asks him to leave.
In the Mayer house Susan paces awaiting the end of the man-date. She watches as Mike and Jackson kid each other. Jackson comes in and reports that he and Mike had a blast. They make out and soon hit the bed. He bites her earlobes, she moans. She notes he's never done that before. She stops suddenly and asks how he knew she would like that. He claims that Mike didn't tell him about the ear-nibbling. Susan gets silly and says she's been violated. He admits Mike told him and Susan forbids Jackson from seeing Mike.
Bree comes to visit Gaby who's cleaning her windows, looking extra shlubby. (They're doing a great job with padding and make-up). Bree is catering that swanky party Gaby is looking forward to and comes to uninvite her. Awkward. The hostess thinks it might be awkward to have her friends - who are members at the country club- mingling with "staff"- like Carlos, who's now working at the country club. Gaby is aghast. Bree says it's just one party. Gaby says it's the start of the social season and this is just the first step in a long, slow slide from society. Gaby gets sad saying "we used to have help, now we are the help."
At the Scavo house Tom discovers Lynette "talking" to Porter online by pretending to be "Sara J." from Porter's high school on "Silverfizz." (She's 16 and cute and likes graphic novels and Tokyo Police Club. Hee.) Tom is shocked but is willing to put aside her major ethical breach for a moment to get the dish. Turns out that he's not the drug dealer's friend but is flirting with chicks. Tom says she got what she came for and to leave it alone. She says she knows she should but asks if he knew that Porter writes terrific poetry. Tom is impressed but tells her to shut it off. She says she will. But, predictably, she can't.
In different parts of the Scavo house, in one of the creepiest "DH" storylines ever, Lynette and Porter flirt/chat about their favorite poets and whether he has a girlfriend. He doesn't but likes a girl. Lynette advises to send her a poem to impress her.
McCluskey is, predictably, looking for her cat Toby. (Is this Ida's cat?) She runs into Dave. He feigns surprise at the lost cat. McCluskey asks for his help to find the cat. Dave asks if she's given any more thought to apologizing to Edie, especially since he's going to help find her cat. She says she will. He starts to whistle for it.
Bree is getting ready for a radio interview, she's nervous since this is her first national interview and she loves the hostesses' cookbooks. Turns out that the hostess is also going to the swanky party and can't wait to see what Bree will dish up. The interview starts and Bree explains she called it "old-fashioned" because she misses the days when women had more time to cook. The hostess asks after Mr. Van de Kamp, whom Bree says is deceased. Orson, who we've been watching listen to the interview while eating take-out Chinese, looks up in consternation. She says to be clear his passing had nothing to do with her cooking.
In the Scavo kitchen Lynette notices that Porter is borrowing a book of her poetry. She rhapsodizes about how her first boyfriend gave her a poem from it. Porter essentially gives her a whatever and takes off.
Bree, in a tizzy, is trying to convince Katherine to change the menu for the evening to impress the radio hostess, for a quote for her book jacket. Orson comes in and is annoyed by his on air death notice. She goes into semantics. He wonders if it would've killed her to mention him. She points out that that show was about her cookbook not her tortured marital history and she didn't want to waste airtime. He says it's because he went to jail and she's ashamed of him. Pointing out she has a dinner for 80 to cater in 6 hours, she doesn't want to talk about it. She wonders if she should be proud? He says he went to get her back. She also points out that it was the right thing to do. She says she had no idea she would be a public figure with a name someday. He points out it's not his. She promises sweet home-cooking later as an apology.
Susan is listening to her messages and Jackson is saying he can't make dinner because his college roommate is in town. Susan assumes he's actually going out with Mike. He says he'll drop by later. She yells at her answering machine calling him a miserable two-timer. MJ comes in and wonders what's up with mom.
Back at the Scavo house, Porter logs on to tell Sara J that she's all he thinks about and he has a poem for her. (The Yeats that Lynette recommended.) Predictably, now she realizes she's in too deep and that the "girl" he likes is her. Tom comes in and Lynette comes clean. Tom is not happy and wonders if she's going to tell him now or only after "he kills me and blinds himself." Lynette intends to break up with him via email, letting him down easy.
Gaby and Carlos are primping outside the party and he's surprised they're still on the party list given his work at the club. She calls him silly and leads him in and we see it's the "service entrance." As they walk through the kitchen Carlos wonders about the noise. She lies about where they are. Bree spots them and is alarmed. Gaby explains they're going to take a quick spin to be seen, except by the hostess, and then they'll split. Bree says to keep her out of it.
Susan goes to the bar where Mike hangs out to bust Jackson. She spots Mike, but says Jackson isn't there. There's another beer on the bar, however, which Susan promptly defiles with potato skins and nut shells until its not-Jackson owner shows up, perturbed. She asks the waitress to take care of her "friend." Mike points out since they're not married anymore he doesn't have to protect her. She orders another beer for him. She tells Mike that she's a jackass but says she can't believe about the ear thing. He apologizes but wants to know if he and Jackson can still hang out since it would be good for MJ. Susan says that makes her uncomfortable, she doesn't want Jackson to see her through Mike's eyes. He wonders how she thinks that is. She says she's not proud of who she was at the end of their relationship. He says it was a bad time for both of them and if she could see herself through his eyes she'd know she has nothing to worry about. She buys him a beer too, since he's also her "friend."
Jackson is at Susan's house when she gets home, she apologizes for going overboard and says it's cool if he wants to hang out with her ex. Which is convenient since Karl, of all people, has shown up at Susan's house. Apparently, he just came to pee. He gives a thumbs up to the paint job. He's come to sign some papers for Julie. He teases her about dating/marrying a plumber and a house painter. He says if he'd been a roofer they might still be together and leaves. Jackson wonders if there are any more exes.
Meanwhile at the party Gaby is lying to some society woman about how close she is with Michelle, the hostess of the swanky party. Bree arrives and Gaby treats her like "the caterer" asking if Bree would get her more wine. Bree grabs Gaby by the arm and pushes her into the kitchen wondering why she's still there. Turns out a partygoer is down with the flu so Gaby has taken her place at a table and goes back out. But as she goes out she sees Carlos talking to the husband of the sick lady, who has brought his mother in his wife's place. Gaby and Bree scheme what to say, look back out the door and the maitre d' is hassling Carlos with the guest list. Gaby and Bree scheme some more and open the door once more and the hostess has arrived and is pitching a fit that the help is sitting down to dinner. They open the door and Carlos is being tossed out. Gaby goes to meet him outside, avoiding the swanky party hostess.
McCluskey goes to apologize to Edie. Edie is suspicious but accepts. McCluskey tells her that her cat is missing. Edie sincerely comforts her. McCluskey asks her to tell Dave she apologized. Edie finds this odd and McCluskey says just to please tell him.
In the car Carlos is annoyed that Gaby pulled a stunt like that and how it will be humiliating to go to work. She says becoming invisible is also humiliating and she's officially "lost everything." Carlos is all "everything." Her money, her figure, her social status. He says they haven't lost anything except the chance to hobnob with a bunch of unhappy snobs. She says they're happy what with their money and jewels and what have you. As a masseuse Carlos reports that he hears all their woes and that in fact, they're unhappy, just like he used to be. He grabs her hand and says they have lost nothing that matters. They have a home, jobs, and two beautiful kids who love them more than ice cream and he's never been happier in his life. The only thing that would make him happier would be if she realized how good they have it.
In the Scavo house Tom reads Lynette's "Dear Porter" letter in which she claims she's already seeing somebody. He says it's great but that she should change the part where she signed "Love, Mom." Too late, she already sent it. They hear a door slam upstairs. Tom runs away saying one of them needs to live to take care of the other ones. Porter comes down and places the Yeats book on the Lynette's desk and walks away.
At the kitchen table Lynette approaches Porter who is not talking to her. She apologizes for her unforgivable behavior but says they used to talk all the time and then it stopped and it killed her. So when she became Sara J he was telling her things. He points out that he wasn't telling Lynette anything. She walks away and then says she loved their conversations and is going to msis them. Porter says, under his breath, "me too."
Bree comes home and is surprised Orson is still up reading the paper. She reports breathlessly that the radio hostess loved her food. (He's sitting at a completely set dining room table.) He says he's hungry. She apologizes and says she'll make the twice-promised pot roast tomorrow. He says he wants it now, she promised. She says she's too tired. He repeats, you promised, looking very hurt. She looks a little freaked and goes to make it. He pours some red wine and goes back to his paper. We see her cooking and crying.
McCluskey comes home and Toby is back. Her window, which she didn't open, is open.
Mary Alice comes back to tell us about good neighbors and we see the montage from earlier as Susan helps with Lynette with the groceries but doesn't ask about Porter looking on angrily; Tom gives Carlos the mail but says nothing about an angry Gaby in the background; Parker offers to mow Bree's lawn but doesn't mention a grumpy Orson; McCluskey bringing flowers to Katherine and telling her she brought them because she wants to borrow Katherine's computer so she can "find out some stuff" about Dave.
