This was the very first "Schoolhouse Rock!" song ever written. It originally premiered as part of the pilot for an ABC series entitled Curiosity Shop (1971), two years before "Schoolhouse Rock!". The version that was shown was slightly longer, and had a verse depicting the multiples of three as a carnival shooting game.
This song was used in an advertisement for Nike, which was included on the 30th anniversary "Schoolhouse Rock!" DVD.
This song was adapted on Jack Johnson's album "Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George" as an environmentally-themed song called "The Three R's". This version was subsequently covered by Mitchel Musso as a music video for the "Schoolhouse Rock!: Earth" DVD.
