It’s quite rare for the creator of a genre to also be the one responsible for making the most iconic entries within that genre, but I think it’s safe to say that the late, great George A. Romero remains unmatched as the master of zombified horror. Even after decades of remakes and homages like Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later, we still find ourselves going back to the classics that popularized undead brain-eating in the first place.
And with the Halloween season finally upon us, I thought that this might be a good time to look back on Romero’s spooky filmography with a definitive ranking of his ‘Living Dead’ films. After all, not all zombie flicks are created equal – even when they’re made by a veritable master of the craft.
That being said, I’d like to make it clear that every single one...

Stuart McDonald deeply admires Netflix’s first interactive movie Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. He describes the film as a dark journey wherein a viewer’s decisions in a gamer nerd’s life could lead to acid trips, existential torment, suicide, stuffed bunnies, and decapitated heads. But McDonald knows audiences will have a different reaction to the streaming behemoth’s first interactive romantic comedy, which he directed. In Choose Love, audiences wander into the pages of a fan fiction to decide which suitor is best for the film’s career-driven protagonist, Cami...

NatGeo’s widely acclaimed new limited series “A Small Light” chronicles the heroism of Miep Gies and several other brave Amsterdam residents who hid Anne Frank and her family, as well as four other people from the Nazis in a hidden attic apartment in Otto Frank’s office building. After the eight Jewish residents were arrested and sent to concentration camps in 1944, it was Gies who saved Anne’s diary and kept it in her desk drawer. Otto Frank, who was the only member of the immediate family who survived the camps — Anne died of typhus in March 1945 at Bergen-Belson — returned to Amsterdam, Gies gave him Anne’s diary. And in 1947 “The Diary of a Young Girl” was published in Europe. Five years later, “Diary” made its way to America. It has been translated into over 67 languages.

George Harrison wasn’t afraid of revealing the vulnerabilities and flaws in his music. In 1974, his marriage to Pattie Boyd was unraveling, and he struggled with alcoholism and drugs. While Harrison didn’t speak about this time often, he did write a song that expressed what he went through during this period.

Pattie Boyd and George Harrison married in 1966. Boyd experienced Beatlemania’s highs and lows and the band’s eventual downfall. She left Harrison in 1974, but the pair didn’t officially divorce until 1977. She then married Harrison’s friend, Eric Clapton, in 1979.
After Harrison and Boyd’s marriage unraveled in 1974, the former Beatle was in a dark place where he dealt with drinking and drug use. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Harrison admitted he went on a “bender” after he split from Boyd,...

Thanks to The Diary of Anne Frank and the historians who’ve studied it, the world has a good sense of what happened in the Amsterdam annex where Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II.
Less celebrated, however, are the people who risked their lives to facilitate the Franks’ (and friends’) two-year period of hiding. The premiere of A Small Light, which aired Monday on National Geographic, spotlights the everyday work of Dutch resistance workers by telling the story through the eyes of one of them: Miep Gies, Otto Frank’s secretary.

After The Beatles broke up, John Lennon publicly voiced his frustration and derision for the group. He disparaged their music, including songs he wrote, and insulted his former bandmates. He also was reportedly the first to inform the band that he wanted to step away from them. Despite all this, Lennon admitted that he didn’t think their break up would be permanent. He noted that the band dynamic was always open, so this didn’t feel all that different.

After the band broke up, each former member embarked on a solo career. While, over the years, they all scoffed at the idea of a Beatles reunion, Lennon was less certain about this shortly after the breakup. In a 1970 interview, he, unsurprisingly, was asked if The Beatles would record together again.

While those who knew George Harrison said he wasn’t exactly the Quiet Beatle, he was the most uncomfortable with fame, fan clubs, and paparazzi. He liked his privacy and grew tired of The Beatles’ fame by the mid-1960s. Still, it became a part of his life, and he dealt with it. In 1970, though, the fan club went too far. After learning about one of their plans, Harrison took steps to shut down the fan club.

The new romantic comedy "Rye Lane" follows two slightly lost 20-somethings who cross paths in a gender-neutral bathroom and end up spending a long, rambling day together in South London. Vivian Oparah plays Yas, an aspiring costume designer, and David Jonsson plays Dom, who's bereft that he and his girlfriend broke up because she was cheating on him with his best friend. When Yas reveals that she, too, is coming off a breakup (though she swears she's doing amazing), the pair bond about relationships, their lives, and their favorite places and people.
The movie is a fantastic rom-com in its own right, but it also pay tribute to some of its romance forebearers. And there's no bigger moment where that happens than when the king of the British rom-com, Colin Firth, appears.

Hugh Grant has enjoyed decades of success on the big screen. And yet, the actor remains particularly honest and self-deprecating about himself, his work, and the business itself. In 2019, he even opened up about the regrets he has about his career and, in particular, his focus on romantic comedies throughout the 1990s and 2000s. But recently, Grant took an honest look at who he was during his college days, deeming himself “pretentious.”

Seth Rogen has said that negative reviews from critics are “devastating” and that some people in the film industry have “never recovered” from them.
Speaking to Steven Bartlett for the Diary of a CEO podcast, Rogen described negative press coverage as a “trade-off” for success in the film industry but said that criticism “hurts everyone”. Seth Rogen is a man of many talents. He’s an actor, writer, weed enthusiast, potter, and maker of movies of varying quality. In addition to starring in critically-acclaimed films like Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, An American Pickle, and The Lion King, Rogen has acted in his share of clunkers, including Sausage Party, This is the End, Monsters vs. Aliens, and more. Reviews of his projects cover many emotions, with some critics going out of their way to slam some of Rogen’s most memorable films. While some filmmakers are prepared to let the chips fall where they may and permit critics to have their time in the sun, Rogen is clapping back, saying negative reviews can be harmful in ways people don’t anticipate.

A formal complaint has been made about the author, actor and comedian Stephen Fry over jokes he allegedly told at a cricketing dinner at Lord’s in London.
Marylebone Cricket Club’s president said that the complaint is “incorrect” and some attendees have claimed that Fry was misheard.
Fry, who is president of Marylebone Cricket Club, allegedly cracked a joke about women “shagging” and another that linked Muslims to terrorism.
According to The Times, McC member Chris Waterman urged the club to take disciplinary action against Fry, calling his jokes “egregious”.
Waterman claims that Fry welcomed members by saying: “I had intended to say ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,’ but there are no lady members present. I suppose they are off shagging.”
