Keep in mind that Belushi is an actor/comedian and not a farmer. What we have on the show is a clueless and bumbling city guy trying to be a pot farmer. He tosses money around instead of knowledge and hires lazy family members instead of solid workers. But, it's somewhat enjoyable to watch. And Dan Ackroyd shows up occasionally which is really a plus! We're into season 2 now and it's more grade school T-Ball action than anything. But, I'm a Jim and Dan fan and I find it enjoyable enough to keep watching. Will it ever become a 'real farm'? Time will tell!

Guys this show seems really contrived, I'm used to being BS'd a little but you burned up captain Jacks plants and now you lost the seeds? The getting approval from Danny part, don't get me started, C'mon Belushi! You can do better than this brother

It's just too scripted. I like the concept and appreciate Jim himself, but come on.. show us some genuine real moments. Almost every aspect is scripted. Hopefully they ease it up on the scripting soon, before they're cancelled.
Scripted but fun

This show is pretty low cal and the scripting can be embarrassing now. It's fun and silly and I enjoy any show that has some traveling. I find it interesting to see other parts of the world and culture, even if it is brief. This show could be improved by some additional takes to alleviate the awkwardness of scripting non-actors. Don't listen to the haters, not everything has to be perfect or great. This show is simple and fun, don't look much deeper.
Additionally, some of the growing content is very basic, but it's a great way to lift the shroud of of the cannabis industry and shed some light. I think this is very beneficial for those that might think cannabis is scary or evil. Medically retired LEO here. Thank you cannabis for taking care of my nerve pain and allowing me to return to a semblance of my previous physically active lifestyle .

Heavily scripted

No actual work is being done by the cast which means that they are actors. It's all a wannabe comedy reel with poor writing.
I'm not sure who the audience is as anyone who is in the MJ buis can see this is obviously overblown and almost everyone else will grow tired of the lame duck joking after the first 20 minutes.
I enjoyed watching and look forward to more!!

Not a lot to chose from during this pandamic BS!! Wilth limited selection, I found myself watching programs that I would normally skip over. Not that those programs are bad, but they just did not appeal to me. Jim is a nut!! Goofy, energenic, positive nut. He burns sage to ward off evil spirits and cleanse one another of evil spirits! The product looks great especially Jack! However, I'm not sure how anything stays alive with the lazy, entitled employees that complain more about being over worked then actually being productive!! Jim is loyal to family, which is very refreshing, but to what cost??
Look forward to watch more and hope that his business does well!

Should be good, but it's not

I wanted to love this show. Interesting story and concept, but much more like a sitcom than a reality show. I realize reality shows are far from reality, but this show doesn't even try. I am a huge Belushi fan. He acts and recites lines like a low-grade actor. The scenes are ridiculous. I wish they could show the real work and the interestingness of the people there. If the characters are actual workers on the farm, they are far too rehearsed to watch.
It's a lot like Duck Dynasty, but far worse acting. It's it's going to be scripted reality, get some people who can act. If it's supposed to be reality, let them be real.
Overall, it's hardly watchable, but I'm hoping someone can produce it better over time. I want to hope there's potential there.

Funny but totally scripted

I tuned in not really knowing what to expect. Immediately you can see it is totally scripted in a reality show type of way and every one is playing to the camera. But at the same time, I found it really funny. Jim basically plays a goofy guy trying to run his marijuana business and show his love of marijuana. Is it a documentary or showing you how to run a marijuana business - not at all. If you want something light to watch with everything going on in the world, and are interested in just seeing beautiful trees (pot), grow rooms and dispensaries with Jim's comedy on the side, you will enjoy it. Not for everyone, but not bad none the less.
Scripted but funny reality show

If you dive into this show KNOWING it is scripted, you can laugh about HOW ridiculous yet funny it truly is. Jim Belushi's expressions and mannerisms are just hilarious. He's clearly trying to gear this show towards a comedy and not a drama. Nothing wrong with it. Just relax and be entertained.
Extremely Bad

What could have been a wonderful new show with an updated concept, turns out to be another fake and scripted "reality show" full of green screens, horrible acting and corny jokes, that were outdated 30 years ago. Horrible.

If you aren't into cannabis, then you may not like it. Yes he starts out bumbling his way through the process with under qualified help but that's part of the shtick. If you watch both seasons all the way through you realize he gets serious about how to grow and hires a pro team to build his facilities. Then the vault burns down and pretty sure that wasn't scripted.
Haven't watched his According To Jim TV show but I find him quite funny and Chris is the best straight man you can find. Belushi has lots of energy and keeps things rolling along. Never cared for reality shows but this one is entertaining even though the sister/brother rivalry is a bit is a reach. The trip to Columbia was enlightening.
Really want to see another season.

Warning: Spoilers
Growing Belushi is nothing more than an advertisement for Belushi Farms and their marijuana under the guise of a reality show/documentary. Trying to cover it with a trip to Medellin; huggy, lovey family and friend relationships; and finally a harvest party. I can't even say I found it that interesting. It almost seems like it was slapped together quickly and without much thought or planning...just enough to pique interest and make all aware of their existence. It probably will work...making Jim, John's widow and Aykroyd a pile of $$$$$.
Loving this show!

Could've been an interesting show if it was an honest look at the business. Unfortunately it focuses on forced comedy and scripted lines. I could handle Belushi playing up the comedy, but watching the stoner kids is total cringe.
Hilarious, Totally Fun!

If you're looking for some good, fun, reality tv, watch Growing Belushi. Growing up watching John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd on SNL, being a Blues Brothers fan from their beginning through Jim stepping in, this is totally in that vein. Truly a "Mission from God."

Combines some of my least favourite things about the entertainment biz
greg-goremykin18 October 2020
(1) Wholly untalented performers that trade in on a parent or sibling or child's fame by dint of sharing a surname and not much else
(2) Poorly scripted one-take-only scenes intended to pass as spontaneous reality-based television... I thought Jim Belushi was a wooden actor with no discernible talent nor craft in conventional TV and film production, yet he is 10x worse in this programme that is at least supposed to appear un-scripted. It's just horrible and needs to be watched at least once to really be understood what a swing and a miss this was on an idea that had real potential.
(3) My cousin is the 2nd biggest grower in Western Canada (operating out of BC), growing bud for almost all the medical dispensaries and now gov't licensed retail sellers I know of here. Her son travels all around the world consulting on set up and operation of commercial grow operations, so while not in the business myself I've seen how it operates up close, and there is nothing in this show that seems the least bit realistic to how growers operate in the real world. It does a disservice in a way as it seems to push the idea that this is some sort of business you can just bumble your way through when it's anything but.
(4) The 10/10 reviews on this are so obviously from muppets, with nondescript superlatives that a person could literally write about any title listed on IMDb. I feel secure in assuming some money or other incentive passed hands for these reviews, or were written those with some sort of personal interest in the success of this show.
(5) Dan Aykroyd hasn't been funny since the 1980s, he really hasn't, not in acting or writing... I love The Second City alums generally, some of the funniest people around (and many that aren't known for these roots e.g. Stephen Colbert), but let's face it, some of them in the late 60s and 70s got any comic ability or performances snorted straight up their nose, and Aykroyd is the prime example of that. Eugene Levy he is not.
