Way too fast paced and choppy

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was quite confusing.

I liked Allie's Dad's appearance. Everything else was just irritating. And don't get me started on how Elizabeth is acting, especially blowing off Nathan AND Allie there in the end!!!

The writing for this episode was a joke!

Warning: Spoilers
I have been a fan since season 1. I love the story of hope valley. These last 3 seasons since Elizabeth has been conflicted between Nathan & Lucas turns out wasn't a triangle at all, but Elizabeth being unable to commit to someone.

Not ever giving Nathan a true chance to court/date, but instead courts Lucas-who has never been in her home, never held or spent much time with baby Jack, who sees the spark she shares with Nathan & decides to let her go, who "gives permission" to Elizabeth for her to continue to have a friendship with Nathan, whom she shares NO CHEMISTRY with, if Abigail had been there, she would've straighten Elizabeth out-she needs some guidance, good Lord help this poor woman out!!!!

I am BAFFLED!!!! Hallmark you are known for bringing the predictability to us, that's literally your hallmark, but instead this season finale was choppy, poorly put together (except when whole town stood by the Canfields was beautiful!-which was the ONLY redeeming part of this finale) & Elizabeth's character never really redeemed herself, the make up between her and Rosemary was pitiful, & could've been done so much better!

But come on the school teacher of Hope Valley with the Saloon owner-smh it makes no sense!!!!

Also feel like the producers/marketers/writers played the fans with how ALL of the commercials were written/played

Will still watch to see how Nathan moves on (love Allie & Nathan) & the Cranfields Also is Henry coming back? If he does please have him bring back Abigail & Cody

If you were disappointed with how LOST ended, this will leave you in the same canoe.

There's few things worse that fans who use their time and energy to attempt to negatively affect a show because the plot didn't unfold their way.

Some disappointed fans rallied to negatively rate and comment on this episode, therefore you cannot go by that.

This episode is romantic and emotional and the cinematography is gorgeous in the last few beautiful moments.

Huge let down after the Season 7 Finale
pegquinn24 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After eagerly waiting almost one year since the dramatic finale of Season 7, this season opener went over like a lead balloon. The episode felt disjointed and awkward, but as usual, the supporting cast (Lee, Rosemary, Bill) were great (thus the 2 stars). Ultimately, the final scene when Elizabeth bails on dinner with Nathan, Allie and Little Jack when they are at the front steps of Abigail's Cafe sets the tone for the entire season -- a cruel, massive disappointment (to say it mildly). Don't waste your time with this season which was more like a painful season of the Bachelorette than WCTH. Very sad to say it but as far as I'm concerned -- unless they fix what they've done -- WCTH ended with the finale of Season 7.

Open Season

Warning: Spoilers
Time has passed since the season 7 finale. Elizabeth is still conflicted on which man holds her heart. Nathan is being more direct, and Lucas is being very honest with his feelings.

Rosemary and Lee help Jesse and Clara with their marital issues. Lee has a very touching scene with Jesse about love and marriage. These one on one scenes are where most of these actors excel.

Faiths entrance back to Hope Valley leaves Carson a little concerned and jealous. I'm hoping these two will be able to readjust soon.

Fiona is opening up her own barber shop and her friends are so excited for her. I really enjoyed seeing the girl power between Clara, Fiona, and Faith.

The suspense of Nathan letting himself get ambushed by Allies dad was startling. Very good writing. I hope Allies dad will be gone for good. Especially now that Nathan is pursuing adoption.

Nathan, Elizabeth, Allie and Jack Jr are all headed into town to have dinner together. They are interrupted when Helen Bouchard arrives and Lucas introduces her to the group. Elizabeth is visibly shaken up and asks Nathan if he could just walk her home.

Overall, I think this was a well written episode. The back and forth of who Elizabeth may choose was very well done. I really don't know who Elizabeth will pick and I think most fans are ready for it.

Kevin McGarry shines
haa422 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was the first episode where Nathan truly was written as the leading man. He was involved in multiple stories and scenes with multiple characters throughout the episode. It was also nice to see his arc with Elizabeth build throughout the episode where it progressed from her being unsure about having dinner to going out on a family dinner date. Alas, Elizabeth then proceeds to cancel the date just a few feet from the Cafe. So the final frame of the episode is of a heartbroken 12 year old girl and her innocent uncle. This basically sets the tone for the rest of the very disjointed Season 8 and the inexplicable choice at the end that was not supported by any prior writing. This episode also did not connect well to the cliffhanger of Season 7. It was as if the hug never happened. Clearly, the new showrunner John Tinker came in and thought he knew better than Hallmark and the long time viewers of this show. If you're giving this a try, I'd suggest stopping at the Season 7 finale and considering that the end of the series. Season 8 did not connect the dots well and build on the stories from the previous 2 seasons nor was it uplifting during a pandemic. Save yourself the time and heartbreak.

Waste of Time

Please save yourself and do not watch any of season 8. Storylines disjointed. Hero is beat up all season, starting in this very episode. Kevin McGarry deserves an Emmy for his acting. He's the reason I kept tuning in all season.

Inconsistent Writing
storytelling10111 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Inconsistent writing: figuring it out as they go along, leads to a not well-thought out resolution in the finale. Lots of characters are doing things that are out of character. For example, Lucas building a school while away for three months but is previously done for not being able to build bookshelves in the school library. Also, Clara is openly discussing her problems with everyone, when she usually does so privately in one-on-one conversations.

Confusion in Hope Valley
bubblz-5394415 May 2021
This episode was unfinished! So many storylines left hanging. Clara and Jesse? Carson & Faith - are they still a couple? Not? Elizabeth has issues - Nathan is in danger and Allie - well she is a trusting teenager who is caught in the middle of all this chaos. Resolutions need to happen for all of these situations!
