Don't let the title fool you. This is the real Rosie the Robot, and not a knock-off. However, she is a machine and machines do malfunction from time to time. Even one faulty part can damage an entire system, and as we discover in tonight's heart-warming episode, even Rosie is not immune to mind manipulation. As we begin, the Jetsons are enjoying a peaceful Sunday afternoon at home. After they're finished farting around with Jane's hair styler, they receive an interrupting call from Spacely, urgently requesting George's assistance down at the plant. It seems there's a mechanical difficulty in the shipping department. The robot on duty keeps sending off faulty sprockets instead of the good ones. After shipping off a desk and a water cooler and then almost shipping off George, the robot is finally put out of commission and George discovers the problem: a faulty lug-nut. He is commended by Spacely with a raise and the next day off. Upon returning home, George showers the family with gifts, including a box of assorted nuts and bolts for Rosie, robot candy. Now as for that faulty lug-nut, instead of just throwing it away where it could do no further harm, George brought it home with him for some reason. Worse yet, he leaves it lying around, and Rosie happens to see it. Taking it to be a piece of robot candy that fell out of the box she was given, so she ingests it...hilarity and hijinks, do your stuff! Rosie flips her robotic wig and begins rearranging everything in the apartment, up to and including picking up items just lying around and storing them in the closet where nobody could find them. Oh, and she keeps saying, "a place for everything and everything in its place" over and over.
The family slowly begins to notice their stuff is missing, and quickly blame each other. Rosie is oblivious, having no memory of her wild night. Fortunately, Elroy comes across Rosie's stash, and the family realizes the horrible truth: Rosie has become a kleptomaniac. Worse yet, she was now on her way to the moon mall to do some "shopping". The first thing she did was rip off a hardware store. Seeing all those yummy bolts and screws and lug-nuts in the window made her flip her spring loaded head. George arrives just in time to witness Rosie knocking off the super market. That's when a gung-ho mall cop arrives and assumes George is the thief, seeing as how he knows Rosie and is confident she would never resort to crime, despite the fact she stole more "robot candy" from the hardware store and snatched a purse, and the stupid mall cop didn't even notice. At least not until she jacked his cycle and took off, with George in tow. What results is a hilarious, high-speed cycle chase around the mall which comes to a halt when Rosie crashes into a wall, completely falling apart. Oh, Rosie, we hardly knew you. Don't worry, folks, she isn't dead. With some quick surgery at the robot hospital, Rosie was her old spunky, clunky self again. With one exception: she never wants to see another lug-nut again for the rest of her mechanical life span.
"Rip-Off Rosie", what can I say? This episode sure has it's moments, and I must say Rosie looks terrifying when he's going haywire. Just look at those eyes. She looks ready to take an ax to somebody. As scary as angry Rosie can be, this episode is still good fun and anybody who likes Rosie the Robot should definitely see it. Plus it really makes you think: one tiny little insignificant piece can cause a world of trouble.
