Rosie the Robot is starting to show her age. Yes, we're all destined to one day get old and wear out, but luckily for Rosie, her parts can be easily replaced and repaired. We human beings are not as fortunate. So as our story opens, we see Rosie becoming very clumsy and forgetful in her duties. She mistakes the family's favorite dinner as Venutian Vegetable Delight... not so delightful. She unintentionally shuns Mac, and seems to crush things in her path as she was unable to detect them with her peripheral sensors. George wonders what's wrong and Henry Orbit has the answer: her master cylinder has run over 30,000 miles and must be re-calibrated. Unable to do so, they decide to just buy a new cylinder, so the next day George and Jane head to Robot City. Now the sad thing about going to Robot City is that each and every time they go there, the seedy salesman tries to con them into buying a new robot. Meanwhile, Rosie heads to Spacely Sprockets to bring George his lunch, but he hasn't arrived. She manages to track him down to Robot City where she overhears George and Jane talking with the salesman, and misinterprets, thinking they're going to buy a new robot.
Downtrodden, Rosie packs up and leaves before she can be terminated. Once she hits the space streets, Rosie finds very little luck in the way of employment, since her model is not really high in demand. When the family discovers Rosie is gone, they panic and search all over creation for her. In the midst of all this, Judy is taking her driver's test. George decides to teach her in place of Rosie, and during their drive, the seedy Robot City salesman flags them down try once again to sell them the new robot maid. They accept her, but find this new maid to be a living nightmare! She runs the house and acts as dictator, saying when TV can be watched and when lights can be on. The audacity! So while Rosie finds employment as a window washer and waitress and bungles both, Judy heads out for another driving crash course. This time she has a professional instructor and as bad luck would have it, her instructor is the same unlucky schmuck who had to instruct Jane. Welcome back for a cameo, Mr. Tweeter! So Judy spots Rosie and brings her home. She's welcomed by the presence of the new maid and subsequently runs off. The family gives chase and manage to rescue Rosie before she can throw herself into the trash smasher. So it all works out. Rosie gives the new maid the heave-ho, literally, and she receives a new master cylinder. She was like a new robot.
"Rosie Come Home" is a fun episode. It again shows how robots can truly get out of hand once they've discovered emotion. Plus, that seedy salesman returns yet again in "Mothers Day for Rosie" when George goes to Robot City looking for Rosie's mother, and yet again he tries to sell him a new robot. This guy sure can't take a hint! We reach a new milestone in the series: Judy Jetson is a certified driver. God help us all. Now she can beg and plead for her own car, but that's another story.
