Stiller directed the action comedy sequel, which he co-wrote alongside Justin Theroux, Nick Stoller, and John Hamburg. It was released in 2016 and opened to $15.9M over a Valentine’s weekend. The film grossed domestically $29M with a $50M budget.
“I thought everybody wanted this,” Stiller said on David Duchovny’s podcast Fail Better (via People). “And then it’s like, ‘Wow, I must have really f***ed this up. Everybody didn’t go to it. And it’s gotten these horrible reviews.”
He continued, “It really freaked me out because I was like, ‘I didn’t know was that bad?’ What scared me the most on that one was l’m losing what I think what’s funny, the questioning yourself … on Zoolander 2, it was definitely blindsiding to me.

Dakota Johnson is most well-known for playing Anastasia Steele in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" franchise. The films, which are based on the book series of the same name by E.L. Next up, she's set to join Sony's Spider-Man universe as the titular character in "Madame Web."
Dakota's success is unsurprising, especially considering her parents are famous actors, themselves. Rebel Wilson says her contract for the “Pitch Perfect” franchise prevented her from losing weight.
The actress-writer-producer, who played Fat Amy in the 2012 musical comedy and its 2015 and 2017 sequels, told “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper that she could not lose or gain more than 10 pounds.
“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight, because it was in the contracts for that movie,” she said on Wednesday’s episode. “You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight that’s in your contract.”
Universal, which distributed the “Pitch Perfect” films, did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Colin Jost became a household name for his humorous delivery of the “news” on Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update.” He might also have garnered a fair amount of fame simply for being Scarlett Johansson’s husband. But the comedian has carved his own path to the spotlight.
Just as SNL helped cast members like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Bill Hader launch careers beyond the live stage at NBC, Jost has also dipped his toe into other acting waters. And whether he’s to be believed or not, it’s landed him some high-profile acting gigs — perhaps even without formal auditions.

Exclusive: Momo, one of the best-loved works by The Neverending Story scribe Michael Ende, is getting a big-canvas, English-language screen adaption from leading German producer Christian Becker and bilingual writer-director Christian Ditter (How To Be Single).
The ambitious movie version of Ende’s popular fantasy novel will chart the story of the eponymous Momo, an orphan girl who must do battle with the soulless and otherworldly ‘grey men’ who stealthily take over her city and steal time. Ende’s book has long been considered a critique of consumerism, stress and unfeeling individualism, themes that should strongly resonate in a contemporary context.
Published in more than 40 languages, this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the book’s first publication and producers are hoping to begin filmmaking towards the end of 2023.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial is an update on the 1953 play by Herman Wouk, itself an adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Caine Mutiny. It hails from Paramount Global Content Distribution for Showtime.
The original story follows a naval officer who stands trial for mutiny after taking command from a ship captain he feels is acting in unstable fashion, endangering both the ship and its crew. Before Jake Lacy became Shane, the odious newlywed in last year’s smash-hit class satire The White Lotus, the 37-year-old actor was famous for playing nice guys. Not just good guys, but human beings so exceedingly pleasant in looks and affect that they could only be fiction.
In HBO’s Girls, for example, Lacy was Fran, the kindly schoolteacher who still offered Hannah a ride after she dumped him hundreds of miles from home. In the 2020 remake of High Fidelity, he played a harmless rock-climbing fanatic – the guy you date when you’re on the rebound from heartache.
Lacy thinks the nicest guy he ever played – I asked – was probably Ken from the film How to Be Single, a goofy one-night stand who coasts into unexpected fatherhood with uncanny aplomb. “But that’s a caricature almost,” Lacy says. “The idea of a nice guy.”
That said, the actor is incorrect.

Spooky Season is in session on Hulu, as the streaming service is adding a ton of horror-themed content this month. But not to worry, there’s plenty of other non-spooky new movies and shows to watch, too.
In the horror realm, director David Bruckner’s new (and well-received) take on “Hellraiser” arrives on Oct. 7, while horror films ranging from “Annabelle: Creation” to “The ABCs of Death” to “Monster House” to “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” arrive throughout the month.
In decidedly non-scary new arrivals, the entire series of “Schitt’s Creek” comes to Hulu on Oct. 3 after streaming on Netflix for the last few years, while the Hulu original film “Rosaline” – which tells the “Romeo and Juliet” story from a different point of view – streams on Oct. 14.
Other noteworthy library titles include Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” on Oct. 25 and David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future” on Oct. 31.

A miscast lead is one of many issues plaguing a broad and unfunny attempt to recapture the spirit of films like Never Been Kissed and Mean Girls
The spirit of sparky high school comedies, from Never Been Kissed to Mean Girls to Easy A, haunts Netflix’s junky “if you like…” offering Senior Year, with a progressively deafening reminder of what came before. For where those films had charm, wit and vim, this has a stultifying absence instead, a disappointing and derivative two-hour slog down memory lane.
It at least looks like the movies it desperately wants to be grouped together with, a quick tip-off to its origins, made by Paramount before being off-loaded to Netflix. British director Alex Hardcastle, best known for sitcom work, does an impressive job of fooling us into thinking we’re in safe hands with a slick and poppy aesthetic before the script, from Andrew Knauer,...

TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.
There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

This month on Amazon Prime Video UK sees the final three episodes of Neil Gaiman fantasy drama American Gods arrive, along with the first three episodes of new comic book animated series Invincible, adapted from the books by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Movies-wise, there’s the sequel to John Landis’ 1988 comedy Coming To America, which follows the story of Eddie Murphy’s Prince Akeem as he’s drawn back to the US ahead of taking on Zamunda’s throne. Also, in his most anticipated role since he put on a beanie for those Kia car ads, Robert de Niro plays a granddad fighting with his young grandson over the use of a bedroom in The War With Grandpa.
Also – tennis, and a collection of existing movies including the very good Call Me By Your Name, which lands on the 26th. We’ll update this guide as new release...

If Emma Stone as Cruella De Vil doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will. Disney released the first full trailer for “Cruella” on Wednesday, the live-action prequel story about how a young Cruella came up in the fashion world to one day hope to skin puppies alive for their fur coats.
Brace yourself, Dalmatians.
Co-starring along Emma Stone in “Cruella” are Emma Thompson, Mark Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beechem, Joel Fry and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
Stone has some big shoes to fill as Glenn Close has already given a memorable turn as a live-action Cruella in 1996’s “101 Dalmatians,” but this film has the backing of “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie as well as a screenplay by Dana Fox (“How to Be Single”) and Tony McNamara. Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel and Steve Zississ conceived of the story based on the novel by Dodie Smith.

Channing Tatum is in final negotiations to star opposite Sandra Bullock in the Paramount Pictures film “The Lost City of D,” multiple sources tell Variety.
Bullock is producing the project through her company Fortis Films, along with Liza Chasin and her 3dot Productions.
To be directed by Adam and Aaron Nee, the pic stars Bullock as a reclusive romance novelist who was sure nothing could be worse than getting stuck on a book tour with her cover model (Tatum), until a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving life can be so much stranger — and more romantic — than any of her paperback fictions.
The romantic action adventure is based on an idea by Seth Gordon, with an updated script from Dana Fox. Oren Uziel wrote the original treatment. Gordon is also attached to produce through his banner Exhibit A Films.

Exclusive: Filmmaker Neil Marshall has provided Deadline with a statement which he made today, refuting and smashing the alleged reports out there that he was involved in attempting to extort NBC Universal Vice Chairman Ron Meyer on behalf of fiancée, Charlotte Kirk, whom the executive had a reported consensual affair with eight years ago.
You can read Marshall’s statement below:
I am a filmmaker, lucky enough to have had moderate success and keep working for almost 20 years now. And any of my friends, anyone who’s worked closely with me, anyone who knows me personally, and not just as some name in a headline, will know that what’s being said about me is a load of old bollocks.
In case that doesn’t make it clear, the allegations concerning myself, Ron Meyer and NBC/Universal are nothing but lies based upon falsehoods. There isn’t a grain of truth to this story,...
