Blunt Talk, a live-action comedy series from Seth MacFarlane and Bored To Death creator Jonathan Ames starring Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, X-Men), has landed at Starz with a 20-episode, straight-to-series, two-season order for a 2015 premiere. The project hails from Media Rights Capital, which yielded a similar straight-to-series, two-season pickup from Netflix for its drama House Of Cards. The comedy project was recently taken out, garnering interest from multiple networks. There was some behind the scenes back-and-forth on who would produce the series as MacFarlane is under a very rich overall deal at 20th Century Fox TV. The TV studio, which is behind all other MacFarlane comedy series, is currently not involved in this one but I hear the issue has not been completely resolved yet. MacFarlane has very strong ties to Mrc, which was behind his YouTube original series Cavalcade Of Cartoon Comedy as well as features Ted and A Million Ways To Die In The West...

When Lebron James isn’t playing basketball, isn’t invoking karma on Twitter about basketball games, isn’t denying that he invoked karma on twitter about basketball games, and isn’t filming commercials in which he makes ridiculous, hyperbolic assumptions about what millions of Americans want or don’t want him to be, he sometimes works on an animated web series and hangs out with Drake. The Lebrons, a cartoon series created by Spring Hill Productions and Believe Entertainment Group starring the four versions of the Lebron James-based characters introduced in those Klump family Nike commercials, will feature an animated iteration of Drake, voiced by the Grammy-nominated artist. Drake, along with all four Lebrons, will convey life-lessons to children by way of family-friendly cartoon hijinkx. The principals at Believe Entertainment Group, Dan Goodman and Bill Masterson, are no novices to the web series game. They’re the duo that...

Yes, that's right. In case you haven't seen enough of him, the NBA's favorite decider is starring in his own web series, The LeBrons, featuring animated version of the characters introduced in the Wtf Nike commercials in which LeBron plays four versions of himself, doubling Shaq's duplication in his recent web series. The series takes place in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio and will debut on his website and The LeBrons YouTube channel. "I'm just really excited about this show," said James. "It goes back to the four characters who I feel like I am on a day-to-day basis." With Kid LeBron, Athlete LeBron, Business LeBron, and Wise (the mentor of the family), James will attempt to portray the many sides of himself. "It's an exciting time to get this out not only to kids but to everyone. I think everyone is going to have an opportunity to to relate to them,...

With three television shows to oversee at this point, it's a wonder that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane even has time to think about a feature. But he's sold Universal and Media Rights Capital on the idea of Ted, a hard-r comedy about a man and his teddy bear that MacFarlane will direct. Deadline has basic info about the film, but not much more than I just gave you there -- it is planned as a live-action and CGI hybrid, and MacFarlane will voice the teddy bear and co-star. (I'm assuming that co-star means that we'll also see MacFarlane playing a human character, not just voicing the bear.) Mrc developed the film and Universal has bought into it, but I'm not sure where the distribution of cash comes from. MacFarlane and Mrc are working together on Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy, and this deal gives MacFarlane part ownership of Ted. Good for him,...

'Ted' will be a live-action movie with a CG bear voiced by MacFarlane.

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane has signed with Universal to make his directorial debut on an R-rated comedy titled "Ted." The story follows a man and his relationship with his teddy bear, a CG creation that will be voiced by MacFarlane.
Deadline New York reports that the script comes from a collaboration between "Family Guy" writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, and MacFarlane, who will also produce. The hope is that the producer/director/co-star will be able to make the time to get production under way this year, while still supervising and providing voices for "Family Guy," "The Cleveland Show" and "American Dad."
Fox apparently still wants to make a "Family Guy" movie for theaters (so far, the series' long-form specials have been direct-to-video affairs), but now "Ted" will come first.

Big Fantastic has one of the more impressive track records in the web series circuit, tent-poled by their international breakout franchise Prom Queen. For years they have been the goto production house for studios like Michael Eisner’s Vuguru (Prom Queen, Foreign Body), 60Frames (Cockpit) and Warner Bros. (Sorority Forever). But now as the company prepares its first non-studio original series since their debut Sam Has 7 Friends, the company announced they have signed on as a new media signatories to the Writers Guild of America, West, under the WGA’s Minimum Basic Agreement (“Mba”). “The Guild has done a great job of recognizing and legitimizing the efforts of online creators like us,” said Big Fantastic’s Doug Cheney. “We chose to become a signatory now because it affords us tremendous opportunities as writers while allowing our company access to the vast WGA talent pool.” There’s been a fair...

Showing just how unhip being a PC can be, Microsoft has pulled out of a prime time Windows 7 sponsorship of a special by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. According to Microsoft, MacFarlane's style didn't "fit with the Windows brand." How very PC indeed.
Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show was slated to run commercial free, with McFarlane and fellow funnywoman Alex Borstein (the voice of Fg's Lois) personally pitching Windows 7 within the content of the show itself. But according to Variety, Microsoft got cold feet after realizing that in between pitches, MacFarlane and Borstein would make Family Guy-style jokes, "including riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest."
Neither Microsoft nor MacFarlane are strangers to cross-branding, though. For instance, Microsoft currently powers Ford's Sync hands-free stereo technology in a smattering of new automobiles aimed at younger consumers. Aside from inking a $100 million deal with Fox last year,...

The International (Sony) An Interpol agent (Clive Owen) joins forces with a Manhattan D.A. (Naomi Watts) to bring down an arms dealing ring and a corrupt global banking cartel that’s funding them. Superlative thriller was oddly ignored by critics and audiences alike, but expertly blends intelligence (courtesy screenwriter Eric Warren Singer’s masterfully-crafted script) and full-throttle action (director Tom Tykwer stages one of the great film shoot-outs in New York’s iconic Guggenheim Museum), making this dynamite thriller reminiscent of the best work from masters such as John Frankenheimer and Robert Aldrich. Armin Mueller-Stahl is wonderful as a world-weary covert op. Bonuses: Extended scene; Featurettes; Trailer. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.

Imagine if a season of Family Guy was stripped down from having narrative and resigned to nothing more than the pop-culture cut-scenes it’s become known for. No Peter, Lois, Meg, Stewie, Brian or Chris, just a long random sequence of unrelated comedy bits – that’s Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy. Confessing to having gotten the idea from Jackie Gleason’s Cavalcade of Characters (1994), Seth MacFarlane has taken aim at making no sense at all and found wild success in the process. Even while the formula for Family Guy’s cut-scene additions has been parodied and mocked by South Park, MacFarlane went ahead and unabashedly made a feature out of it all. At times it feels like the rejects that Seth couldn’t fit into the show, but considering it’s only about 54 minutes long it doesn’t ask much from the audience in terms of dedication, so...
