- The To-Do List is a coming of age story that seeks to show difficulties young adults face on a daily basis. It follows a day in the life of Dee, a socially awkward and nerdy boy, who is pressured to complete a to-do list 0f 3 things in order to prove his manhood.
- On the day of his birthday, Dee wakes up to find a present on his bed. A small box with a watch and a card, a present for his 21st birthday from his parents. Smiling and happy, he puts the present aside, saving it for later. He grabs a plastic from the trash can and walks out. Its bin day, Dee walks out with a black trash bag. Before going back inside, Dee decides to sit outside for a bit. He is on his phone smiling and typing a thank you text message to his parents before and respond to the birthday wishes on his social media accounts. While at it, giggling and smiling alone on his phone, his neighbour (Tito) and his friend Jane are rolling a joint and looking him from a close distance. Tito decides to tease him asking why he is laughing alone before offering Dee to join them for a smoke. When Dee refuses and Tito starts mocking him, calling him a small boy and a coward. Dee protested, noting he is man enough as the rest of the guys. Jane challenges Dee to prove his manhood, she writes a list of three things (smoke, drink, sex) and dares him to do it before the end of the day if he is half the man, he claims he is. Dee grabs the paper and walks away back to his room.
Dee gets to his room and throws the paper in the bin. Annoyed, he throws himself on the bed and grabs his present. His face begins to brighten up once more, but he is interrupted by a beep from his phone. He quickly checks his phone and is upset to learn that his parents are working late and will not be able to celebrate his birthday with him. His face filled with disappointment and anger he took out the to do list from the bin and sticked it on his wall. He is determined to have the best day of his life and defend his manhood.
Everything seems to be going as planned, Dee manages to get alcohol and weed but one major thing remains, where will he find a partner to have sex with? He tries to hook up with girls on social media and dating sites but is not brave enough to go through with his plan. Seconds start to quickly turn into minutes and minutes to hours and still nothing. An hour before his parents come back, Dee concludes that this was a stupid venture after all. He has given up and all hope is lost.
Disappointed in his failure, Dee tears his to-do list and goes outside. He joins Jane and Tito outside, they are having a conversation which presented an opportunity and glimpse of hope if ever he was to smash today. Jane is high and can not go home, she needs a place to sleep over for the night. Dee interjected and offered to sneak her in before his parents get home. As naïve as he is, Dee is excited to have a girl (Jane) in his room and very hopeful that he is going to do the deed and prove his manhood.
Jane is a carefree and freakish girl, mature and older than Dee strips half naked and hops on the bed causing some awkwardness and discomfort to Dee. Now Dee just stands clueless, not sure what to do, his eyes fixated at Jane. After a while, he gathers his guts and strips to his boxers and gently joins in bed. For a moment they are both in bed half naked, silent and facing opposite directions. Dee eventually turns and starts caressing Jane without consent. Jane remains numb, no word said. Dee gets too comfortable and confident, he tries to take it a step further by moving on top of Jane. Jane stops him and tells him if he wants to get laid, he has to pay. Confused and surprised Dee refuses the offer as paying for sex goes
