Another Silly Zombie Movie
hi_im_manic6 November 2011
The film seems to accomplish exactly what it set out to achieve, and does so whilst relishing its own low-budget campiness. Rightly so!

Most low budget films of this sort bury themselves by trying too hard and failing miserably. They should never take things too seriously. Filmmakers please note: a "serious" movie creates a serious audience, and serious audiences aren't going to be forgiving towards the poor qualities in a film.

Moving on, this is a silly B movie zombie flick that manages a couple of giggles and a few decent gore effects. Prepare not to be impressed. The film reminds Me a a lot of "Idle Hands". So if you liked it, you'd probably enjoy this as well.

Many of the attempts at humor are crippled, which is a shame, but it still earns some comedic merit and a big gold star for being entertaining and innovative for a zombie flick that someone must've spent an entire years allowance on to make, at least it was not in vain.

If you are after Will Smith blowing stuff up etc etc, move on.

This movie is daft start to finish and I have to say I enjoyed every minute. Yes its B all the way but if your looking for a giggle and don't mind something different give it a try. If you are after buildings blowing up and "The end of the world stock up on bog roll" pass it by. It is tongue firmly in cheek and made me laugh throughout. Too often the zombie genera is way too depressing and this is the antidote for such movies. I agree with another reviewer here this will be a cult classic in time to come. Once we are done with batman 10, spiderman 11 and harry potter the middle aged cruise ship entertainer.

PS keep an ear out for the song at the end ;)

Surprisingly Funny

All of the character names, with the exception of George, are all names of characters that appear in the five George A. Romero zombie films. And the references do not stop there -- we even get a CHUD mention. Throw in some great horror icons -- Lynn Lowry and Lloyd Kaufman, for example -- and this is a special treat.

The movie is not flawless, but has a great low budget sense of humor. In many ways, it reminded me of "The Janitor", which I would rank as one of the greatest low budget films of all time. The Janitor outranks George, of course, but a similar sensibility is there and I think fans of one would enjoy the other.

Some fine-tuning could have been done, but all in all worth a watch.

I just watched this on The Watchbox and I think it will be a cult classic in 5 years, right up there with Night of the Living Dead. If you like these kind of awesome B movies with hysterical plot lines and just the right amount of silly, totally check it out. http://wb.vu/95 The lead boy in it was great too and I think the actress Michelle Tomlinson has something very attractive about her. I would probably watch the movie just for her again by the end of the film I was hooked on her and will go see everything she does. I might have a slight crush, but I think I am just still on my ridiculous Zombie high. I loved George and I hope I will never have to have an intervention with one of my friends.

To Serve Man

Warning: Spoilers
George (Carlos Larkin) is a zombie who sometimes eats people. His best friend Ben (Peter Stickles) and sister Francine (Shannon Hodson) plan an intervention to help George, help he doesn't want. The professional interventionist (Lynn Lowry) provided comedy with every line and move.

This is an over-the-top dark comedy with colorful characters. It includes cameos by Brinke Stevens and Lloyd Kaufman who gave himself a 27 minute interview extra. The DVD included an alternate ending which didn't different much from the one in the film.

Not for everyone.
