The Romanians are siding with the Nazis. They are more afraid of the Bolsheviks and find it easy to ally with the Germans.

The British are falling out of favour and some are planning their escape routes. Toby Lush a new arrival and hoping to teach finds friendship with Dubedat. One day they suddenly depart knowing their time in Romania is up.

Guy Pringle finds himself babysitting Lord Pinkrose Alan Bennett) who has arrived to give a lecture on Lord Byron. The last thing that is needed in Bucharest at the moment.

Even the British spies in the country are in danger. All courtesy of the foolish selfish Prince Yakimov.

He goes on another journalistic assignment to see old chum Freddi von Flugel for a good meal. Only now Freddi is in with the Nazis and wants Yakimov to talk.

Yakimov does talk, he has no scruples, no bravery and no wits. He blurts out about Guy Pringle and many others.

Yakimov returns to to the Pringles and tells them nothing about his experience.

With antisemitism worsening, the Pringles have been harbouring Jewish student Sasha Drucker. He too is now in danger.

The third episode demonstrates why so many people in Romania wanted to leave especially those who were Jewish. Why any man unattached was seen as valuable and convenient currency from the likes of Sophie Oresanu.

This time Ronald Pickup is matched by Alan Bennett when it comes to stealing the show.
