Handy's drill invention depicted early in "No Smurf Is an Island" is based on the drill he made in the 1980 comic story titled, "Le Schtroumpf Bricoleur" ("The Tinker Smurf" in English). The Tinker Smurf is the translation of Handy's French name.
"No Smurf Is An Island" is the first episode in the Smurf cartoon series to be animated using digital ink and paint. This computer-assisted animation process will be used for many episodes from Season 6 through Season 8.
