- Triumph in Africa, not tragedy. Collaboration, not charity. Abundance of spirit, not poverty of resources. The Music Lesson tells the story of two groups of young people from extraordinarily different backgrounds as they use the power of music to discover each other's worlds. Ten classically trained students from the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra traveled across the world for a life-changing cultural exchange with a group of students from Laikipia, Kenya, whose tribal elders have passed down the tradition of singing, dancing, and playing music for centuries.—Anonymous
- Music, indubitably the worlds universal language is described by some as the equivalent to what feeling sounds like; others deem it the single most relatable object shared between mankind. Given either instance, one would be safe in concluding that despite where you fall on lifes scale, the world is still but one big music lesson.
Thus, through the vision of directorial newcomer Ginny Galloway comes The Music Lesson, a monumental tale of tradition, self-enlightenment, courage, and unity that not only examines the practices of two cultures from opposite ends, but also proves that just when you believe sky is the limit, God finds another way of showing off.
For ten Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra students, variation takes on new meaning when they abandon the customary lore of euphonious redundancy to embark on a journey to Laikipia, Kenya, where rules of engagement suddenly become tendencies of impulse.
Over the next ten days, a pairing of musical minds from both hemispheres who assemble to appreciate the value of unexplored virtue, end up sharing a far more valuable goal in realizing that beyond physical assumption there lies an inner truth unseeable to a trained eye, but obtainable with a genuine spirit.
Executive produced by Joe Berlinger (Brothers Keeper, Paradise Lost, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster), alongside actor/comedian/producer, Orlando Jones (Mad TV, The Time Machine, Drumline), and revered producer, Ginny Galloway, The Music Lesson will be the first of many celebrated documentations that guides its viewers to the forgotten origins of true beauty; each other.
