This was originally titled "Last Voyage of the Jimmy Carter" and was intended to be a standalone episode. However, the previous one Today Is the Day: Part 1 (2009) had many unresolved story threads so it was ultimately expanded into a two-parter.
Terminator John Henry can be seen painting miniatures. Those are a "Cloud Giant" and a "Fomorian" from the Dungeons & Dragons miniature game (Giants of Legend series).
This is the only two-parter in the series.
Leven Rambin receives her final on-screen credit, despite the fact that her character Riley doesn't appear in any new scenes. Her only presence is in an excerpt from a previous episode, of her first encounter in the future with Jesse.
The plot resembles that of Alien (1979): a crew unaware of a fellow crew member's true intentions, said crew being trapped aboard its vessel with a deadly enemy on board, and set in the future.
