- Welcome to Beaver Mills, an isolated Alaskan town celebrating its midsummer season of no night. Soon enough, the fun is over when locals start to go missing and human remains are discovered. The "Wyvern" - a prehistoric winged reptile - has escaped from its icy ocean grave and is now gorging itself on every living thing on land. The towns last chance to defeat the creature is to steal an egg from the beast's nest. But there's no force more furocious than a starving mother protecting her young.
- The residents of Beaver Mills, a small Alaskan town, are beset by a Wyvern, a non-fire breathing dragon from medieval mythology. Global warming is causing local glaciers to melt more quickly and has freed the creature from a centuries-long ice tomb. A fisherman and then the community doctor disappear. Residents are slow to recognize their danger because the first reports of the menace seem more like the ravings of an irrational person as opposed to an accurate report. When a pile of Wyvern dung and the missing doctor's hand are found in the woods, everyone starts to panic. Unfortunately, the local sheriff is one of the next victims. With him gone, it is a stranded truck driver (who is temporarily working odd jobs while the insurance company gets him a new rig) and a retired colonel (with a fondness for guns) that organize the community. About that time, the Wyvern takes out the antenna system for their radio links, so they are on their own. The doctor wakes, mortally wounded, but still able to recognize the situation. Nearby, is the Wyvern's nests with three large eggs. Somehow, he must convey this to the residents who are holed up in Claire's Beaver Pelt Cafe.—Garon Smith
