Tom, Gwen's blacksmith pa, is arrested for aiding Tauren, a sorcerer who sought his help to make gold with a philosopher's stone. Tom, attempting escape from Uther's dungeon with Morgana's help, is executed without form of trial. Appalled, Morgana's open resentment lands her in jail, only released through Arthur's intervention. Having lost the stone in his escape, Tauren threatens Gwen for its return, but Morgan delivers it in her place and assures him she wants Uther dead just as much. They plan a trap. Merlin, overhearing, wrestles with his conscience whether to prevent regicide or, as the dragon advises, do nothing and let free all who suffer, like him, from Uther's reign of terror against magic.
