USA Flag
Jimmy_the_Gent41 March 2021
Alice is teaching a night class for immigrants to study for their US citizenship, Janos Kulevich (Fritz Weaver) is the most dedicated student, especially about the American flag.

One of the best of the series. Alice encourages the students to make art projects for Open House, telling them to represent what the USA means to them. Pam comes up with a project of the USA flag in a sink going down the drain. Kulevich is angered and destroys it. Ta Tanisha and Fritz Weaver have a powerful scene where they explain how they feel about the flag. Lloyd Haynes does not appear on this episode.

one of the all-time best tv episodes

Kids today don't know what it was like in Europe before the Berlin Wall (1961 to 1989) came down. This episode of "Room 222" explains the reality of those years as a book cannot.

An excellent episode

Warning: Spoilers
Even though Lloyd Haynes wasn't on this episode I consider it to be one of the best of the entire series. Karen Valentine does an excellent job carrying the whole load. This episode is top notch because in an age where NFL players Kneel for the national anthem the issue of respecting our flag is still as important as ever. A student of Alice's does an art project showing the flag going down the drain and an immigrant in her adult education class destroys it out of rage. Character actor Fritz Weaver (who was in Fail Safe and Black Sunday) does a WONDERFUL job as a refugee from an unamed totaliatrian country who lost his entire family and loves the freedoms in America that so many of the foolish kids take for granted, as we all do. There is a wonderful scene in the end where he makes a speech from the heart about patriotism and what the flag means to him and I sure hope those students listened, we ALL need to listen especially today!
