Anne Boleyn has been played on screen since the silent movie era. She’s been portrayed as a six-fingered boo-hiss villain, a Saturday Night Live punchline, a ghost haunting Princess Diana, and in recent stage musical Six, a Kate Nash-style aitch-dropping popstrel.
Now, Henry VIII’s second wife is trending on TikTok as a new generation gets sucked into the scandals of the Tudor court and stakes their allegiance to her, the Spanish queen unseated for her, the simpering virgin who followed her, or any other player during this eventful period in history when the king of England made the position of queen a revolving door. One thing the new Tudor fans seem to agree upon is that they aren’t #TeamHenry.

After four enlightening, entertaining and full-frontally filthy years of Sex Education, this Netflix teen drama is coming to an end with its fourth and final series, as the Moordale kids finish up their school years for good.

Maeve is now studying in America, Otis’ mum Jean has just had a surprise new baby, and a few other Sex Education favourites are missing entirely.
Let’s take a look at the Sex Education series four cast, old and new:

"Downton Abbey: A New Era" arrives more than a decade after "Downton Abbey" first captured the attention of audiences worldwide. It's grown from "just another British drama" to an international cultural phenomenon that has sparked six TV seasons and two movies (and counting). The success of "Downton" places it among the most iconic period dramas in TV history, but its legacy is not without its complications.
When it debuted in 2010, "Downton" breathed fresh life into the TV period drama. At the time, correctly or not, the perception of TV period dramas was largely BBC and/or PBS adaptations of classic literature. The genre had a reputation for being drab and stuffy with rare exceptions. "Downton" became a phenomenon for its glamour and soapy intrigues, not to mention its willingness to toe the line of "scandal" and its unabashedly romantic heart.
More than anything, the secret to "Downton" and its long-lasting...

The world of the Tudors has long fascinated audiences, whether they be film fans or those watching on television. Nearly every generation has their take on Henry VIII and his legendary wives, from Charles Laughton’s 1933 feature “The Private Life of Henry VIII” to Showtime’s mid-aughts series “The Tudors.” Even on Broadway, one can see Henry’s six spouses sing about their lives in an ongoing production simply titled “Six.” Evolving beyond these stories as much as it’s building from them, the AMC+ limited series “Anne Boleyn” moves the Tudor discussion into a new realm: one not confined by the gender of who’s telling the story, nor their race.
British actress Jodie Turner-Smith, starring as the doomed queen whose ambition bound her to the chopping block, found Boleyn’s story incredibly relevant. “Women are still put in boxes in this way,” Turner-Smith told IndieWire. “This is the...

Anyone even vaguely familiar with British history will be familiar with that of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second and most notorious wife. Even now, centuries after her decapitation, she remains a uniquely enigmatic figure: a canny woman who so charmed a king that he threw away generations of tradition to divorce his wife and reject the church to be with her. Anne’s been portrayed innumerable times; even now, she and the rest of the wives take to Broadway six nights out of seven in a sparkly new “her-story.” But almost every version of Anne Boleyn bears a similar knowing smirk, signaling that this Tudor wife isn’t quite like the others. Now, writer Eve Hedderwick Turner and director Lynsey Miller bring a new “Anne Boleyn” to life, albeit a rather blunt one that focuses on the bitter end of her reign rather than its salacious beginnings.

The six wives of King Henry VIII have been popularized in practically every medium of entertainment, and currently there’s a desire to tell their story “in their own words.” If you go to Broadway right now, you can even see a musical where the six queens put on a rollicking concert where they poke fun at everything from German accents to the size of Henry VIII’s… you get the point. But is there anything that can be mined from a story hundreds of years old?
Initially airing in the U.K. and picked up by AMC, creator Eve Hedderwick Turner’s “Anne Boleyn” bills itself as a “psychological thriller” following the second of Henry VIII’s doomed wives. Anne Boleyn (Jodie Turner-Smith) has been Queen for two-and-a-half years at this point, pregnant with her second child after birthing an unwanted daughter. There is one truly irresistible reason to watch Anne Boleyn, and her name is Jodie Turner-Smith. As the doomed queen of England, Turner-Smith exudes a presence so powerful it feels almost physical, as if she’s stepped through the screen and is waiting expectantly for your curtsy. If only the series around her lived up to the lucidity of her performance. Though writer Eve Hedderwick Turner and director Lynsey Miller aren’t short on interesting ideas or good intentions, their heavy-handed approach too often deadens the very world they’re trying to bring to life.

Who determines your story? For Anne Boleyn, it’s been everyone but herself. The legendary historical figure is finally getting the chance to be front and center in the AMC+ series “Anne Boleyn.” Jodie Turner-Smith stars as the woman whose life has been reduced to the gory details of her final days. The actress has come to the forefront in recent years thanks to outstanding performances — such as Queen in 2019’s “Queen & Slim.”

On Sunday morning at the Cannes Film Festival, “Queen & Slim’s” Jodie Turner-Smith spoke out about the lack of opportunities and support afforded to women and people of color in the film industry, both above and below the line.

Jodie Turner-Smith is in talks to join the cast of Netflix’s “White Noise,” director Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel.
Should the deal close, Turner-Smith will act alongside Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver, who boarded the movie earlier this year.
Netflix declined to comment.
The satirical “White Noise” follows Jack (who will be played by Driver), a professor who made a name for himself by teaching Hitler studies at a liberal arts college in Middle America. With his fourth wife Babette (portrayed by Gerwig) and their kids, they attempt to navigate the usual rocky passages of family life. That’s put to the test when an “airborne toxic event” disrupts their existence and forces them to face the threat of death together. It’s unknown who Turner-Smith would play in the film.

ViacomCBS-backed U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 has revealed a trailer for its much anticipated series “Anne Boleyn,” starring “Queen & Slim” actor Jodie Turner-Smith.
The trailer begins with Turner-Smith, as Tudor queen Anne Boleyn, pleading not guilty to charges of treason. It proceeds to rack up the emotional tension with a childbirth sequence and then asks a series of questions — ‘Dishonest or Devoted?’; ‘Traitor or Trailblazer?’; and ‘Sinner or Saint?’ after which the queen declares: “The world will know my innocence.”

The three-part psychological thriller follows Boleyn, the most notorious of Henry VIII’s wives, best known for her untimely demise by execution.
Produced by Fable Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, “Anne Boleyn” garnered headlines last year for Turner-Smith’s casting, which marks one of a handful of times a Black actor has portrayed a major royal figure on a British terrestrial broadcaster.

After her breakthrough role in “Queen and Slim,” Jodie Turner-Smith is taking on her next major challenge: playing a military officer opposite Michael B. Jordan in “Without Remorse” and a condemned queen in the upcoming series “Anne Boleyn.”
Turner-Smith had just wrapped filming on “Queen & Slim” when she booked “Without Remorse,” which centers on Navy Seal John Kelly (Jordan), one of the most famous characters in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe. In the action film, from director Stefano Sollima, Turner-Smith plays a brand new character: Lt. Commander Karen Greer, the niece of James Greer — Jack Ryan and John Kelly’s (better known as John Clark) frequent ally — and a decorated Navy Seal and Clark’s former team member.
In many ways, Turner-Smith knew what she was signing up for with the action thriller. The actor was generally aware of Clancy’s book, TV and film universe, having watched the Jack Ryan properties.

The six-episode show, which was ordered to series back in February, is set to begin production on April 19 in London. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Cole. Variety exclusively reported Hale’s casting in March.
Assigned to a shocking new case, nicknamed The Ragdoll, are DS Rose (Lloyd-Hughes), Di Baxter (Teixeira) and DC Edmunds (Hale). The “Ragdoll Killer” taunts the police by sending them a list of his next victims, with Rose’s name at the very end. And with those victims to protect, our heroes soon come under intense public scrutiny.
“We’re thrilled to have Lucy, Thalissa and Henry on board as three ideal leads to bring Ragdoll to life,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and co-head of AMC Studios.
MipTV 2021, running April 12-16, with a packed prologue on April 9, including MipDrama, will begin to wind down Wednesday night after its second big keynote, delivered by American star Marc Anthony.
Suffering its second-year running as a virtual event, Reed Midem’s official market remains a diminished affair. This year’s edition also, however, underscored the vibrancy of the international TV industry, galvanized by a huge new demand for higher-end content.
Following are six takeaways from 2021’s event:
David Beckham
No guessing MipTV’s biggest star to date this year: Former Manchester United and England soccer poster boy David Beckham, who delivered a pre-recorded MipTV keynote on Tuesday to talk up his new production company, Studio 99. In a new streaming age, Beckham ticks all the right boxes: He’s a huge global IP and social media phenom with 65.5 million followers on Instagram, soccer being the most popular sport in the world.

Although this year’s edition of the Cannes TV market MipTV is going virtual, the opportunity for distributors to catch the eye is larger than ever as global and regional content are eager to make up for lost time.
The MipDrama showcase in particular still provides the ideal place to drum up interest in a series, according to Rose Hughes, VP of sales at Keshet International which is presenting a look at intense Norwegian-German series “Furia” (pictured below).
“It’s the first step in the strategy of getting this series to the most homes possible, to the best homes possible around the world,” says Hughes. “The show isn’t finished, it’s still in post-production, but this is a chance for buyers to get a sneak peek.”

Their relationship may have been, um, cut short, but Jodie Turner-Smith’s Anne Boleyn and Mark Stanley’s Henry VIII look pretty cosy in the first image of the pair from the upcoming Channel 5 drama.
In Variety’s exclusive first look, Turner-Smith’s Tudor queen is nestled against the formidable Henry VIII, played by “White House Farm” actor Stanley, when times were, presumably, better.
Boleyn is the most notorious of Henry VIII’s six wives, best known for her untimely demise by execution. The three-part psychological thriller “Anne Boleyn” for ViacomCBS-backed U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 will explore the final months of Boleyn’s life from her perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her.
The series will depict the key moments that cause Anne to topple, reflecting her strength, fatal vulnerabilities and determination to be an equal among men.
