A simple short but quite clever and more than enough laughs to justify the viewing time
I recently enjoyed a short film by John Harden and decided to check out a few more. In the middle of a couple of videos uploaded to YouTube (including a heavily sarcastic attack on those people walking into his garden uninvited and pinching oranges off his tree) was this short film that starts out being an educational film looking back at the space race. It doesn't hate long though till the commie-hating, All-American presented has started to twist his facts and goes off the rails on a bit of a rant.
This is a simple sketch but it is still quite enjoyable because it is made with energy and a handful of good laughs across the 6 minute running time. The joke is a little simple if you view it as an assault on the Fox-news style simplification of "good" and "bad" and I suppose it is possible to see that as a bit of a caricature in that vein, but for me this is saved from being as clumsy as it could have been by how wonderful the flight of fancy (or flight of fear) is. Whether it is the comment about the beeping of sputnik or the ramble about afro's and wishing for the life of a character from a Charlton Heston movie, it is surprisingly funny.
Not as clever as the previous short of his that I saw, but still cleverly done and, despite being restricted to one small set, it is well filmed and looks good.
