If you are a fan of pub quizzes, and have a good knowledge of the news events in the world, entertainment, TV, film, music, sport, technology and science, politics and much more in the year gone by, then this is a great show to watch and have fun with. Hosted by Jimmy Carr, with celebrity panellists in three teams: James Corden and Sean Lock (Normal & Hooch / Chubb Lock), Davina McCall and Dara O'Briain (Dara 'n' Dave), and Michael McIntyre and Claudia Winkleman (Same Difference). This quiz focused on the year 2008, with all sorts of questions to answer about the past twelve months. These questions are asked as they are, with video and sound clips, with pictures (including Say What You See), and by celebrity and mystery guests on screen or in the studio, so it really does feel like a proper quiz that you can take part in. Events in the year 2008 that were questioned and joked about, and mentioned (or pictured) included: Amy Winehouse refused to perform at the Grammys in America, writers for American television going on strike, Jeremy Clarkson putting his bank account details in a newspaper and failing to prove that no-one can steal your money, the autobiography of Les Dennis, Max Moseley having a Nazi themed orgy with five prostitutes, the divorce of Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, Thomas Beatie becoming recognised as The Pregnant Man, Doctor Who with Catherine Tate, the new Gladiators, Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) returning to EastEnders, John Sergeant on Strictly Come Dancing, Little Dorrit, Dead Set, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! with Timmy Mallett, Come Dine with Me, Gavin & Stacey, Ashes to Ashes, Who Do You Think You Are? with Boris Johnson, David Tennant playing Hamlet with a skull donated by conductor André Tchaikowsky (who died in 1982) as his last wish, Strangelove: My Car Is My Lover, The Apprentice won by Lee McQueen, Hilary Clinton losing the presidential nomination, Fern Britton revealing she had her stomach stapled to lose weight, Boris Johnson elected as London mayor and banning drinking on the tube (London Underground), "That's Not My Name" by The Ting Tings, Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin marrying in Portofino, Jay-Z performing at Glastonbury, Mamma Mia!, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Sex and the City (the movie), the autobiography of Christopher Biggins, the credit crunch, Ronnie Wood having an affair with 19-year-old Ekaterina Ivanova (who later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother), David Cameron having his bike stolen while shopping at Tesco, Vladimir Putin saving reporters from a tiger attack and releasing a DVD about judo, "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry, the Olympics in Beijing, China; Usain Bolt eating chicken nuggets for breakfast before becoming "fastest man in the world", the Beckham housekeepers accused of selling their clothes on eBay, the "obscene" prank telephone calls by Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross to Andrew Sachs that caused scandal and controversy, Guy Ritchie describing making love to Madonna as "cuddling up to a piece of gristle" after they divorced, the Large Hadron Collider built to find the Higgs boson, O.J. Simpson arrested for armed robbery, other controversial celebrity comments questioned during "Sachsgate", the Emmy winning song and internet viral hit "I'm F***ing Matt Damon" by Sarah Silverman, the "Rickrolling" craze where internet viewers were tricked into watching or listening to "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley, Kerry Katona slurring on This Morning, Barack Obama elected as the first black President of the United States and promising to buy a puppy for his family if he won, Michael Jackson settling a financial case with a Saudi Arabian prince, Jeremy Clarkson causing controversy joking that lorry drivers murder prostitutes (a real incident involving this happened), Lewis Hamilton winning the Formula One World Championship, the first ever vocal recording made before Thomas Edison invented the phonograph found and played on Radio 4, the world's smallest bodybuilder/muscleman and a penguin from the Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Kings Guard knighted. Other celebrity and special guests in the show included the children of Mitchell Brook Primary School in Neasden who act out well known news stories, Jon Snow who reads news related to lyrics from songs of the year, 400m Olympic gold medal winner Christina Ohuruogu and middleweight boxing Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale, Jodie Kidd and Marc Foster who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, John Hurt who reads passages from celebrity autobiographies of the year, Sarah Silverman, and Lord Sir Alan Sugar. The jokes and the questions are what make this show so much fun, they always choose the right celebrity panellists, and it works as a funny way to reminisce on the recent events you remember, a great comedy quiz show. Very good!
