The third episode shows all the hallmarks of a story that is basically a filler.
Oppenheimer is charming General Leslie Groves to submission as the construction is taking place in New Mexico. Groves is aware that he has been disarmed slightly by the wily Oppenheimer.
Especially as others on the team are not happy. Supplies are limited, housing is basic and even the locals are upset as some tress have been cut down. Oppenheimer feels torn but he feels he has no option but to back the US government.
However Oppenheimer cannot get away from his past communist associations. The FBI are trawling his family, his mistress and friends.
I did think this episode could had raced through and might had easily been combined with the following episode.
