Solid second episode
JJSR2231 January 2021
A solid second episode, great acting as always; the action scenes were a lot of fun. The only thing is I wish more attention were being paid to the cases, they feel more like an afterthought like they're included because they have to be rather than actually being a part of the story.

Another good episode. Still figuring out relationship dynamics. Can't wait for more drama and for Jared to show off some more of his talent.

I truly enjoyed this episode. It didn't feel as rushed as the pilot. The actor could not have been more spot on. They are all very talented and will go far! Keep up the good work.

Although I liked this one slightly more than the pilot episode, it still leaves a ton of room for improvement.

God damm that daughter is annoying af. Pushing the woke agenda with the soccer game line up. Well maybe her friend in just shitty at soccer, but they frame it as a race thing.

Back in the Saddle
Prismark108 February 2021
I know episodic television has evolved in America. In the old days there was a reset at the end of each episode with little emphasis on character growth.

It is now a long way from those cop shows parodied by Leslie Nielsen in Police Squad.

These days the story of the week is balanced with a season long arc.

The trouble with this episode. Walker spends too much time with his family issues and the death of his wife.

He has the temerity to get angry when he finds out that his brother contemplated having custody of the kids. Mate you walked out on your kids after their mother died and your family had to step in. Stop your complaining.

The story of a fire in a horse stable with a racehorse that was injured was not just rushed through. It was inconsequential to the episode.

If Chuck Norris was here. He would had punched his boss's lights out for making him prove himself that Walker was fit for duty by getting recertified.

Even Better
Sarah42329 January 2021
I liked the pilot. A LOT. But somehow the second episode was even better.

The sound mix was better, the story pacing not as rushed. And it STILL focused on the characters, which I loved.

I want more time with the people, learning about what makes them tick & how they pick themselves up when they fall. I adore this new Walker. Feel for him in all his grief & failings. (And would people not be so mean to him?? EXCEPT they're grieving & complicated messes, too.)

Still watchable, but a step back in quality this week

Warning: Spoilers
While my previous points stand (the cast chemistry and characters are fantastic, and have a lot to offer for the future), I think they need to be very careful that they don't stray into episodes becoming a box ticking exercise. Thanks to the phenomenal chemistry between the cast, I think the show's biggest selling point is going to be watching those relationships develop - and that takes time. I think Cordell's relationships with Micki, Liam, August, Stella and Geri have major legs and I really want to see more of them. I hope the writers plan on giving them the space to do that organically, rather than trying to resolve every conflict by the end of the episode.

I enjoy a Supernatural Easter egg as much as the next person, but I also like them to be subtle. The parallel between the CW/EW initials on the saddle bag and the DW/SW initials on the table was as subtle as a breeze block to the head, and was also far too soon into the show for comfort. It felt like an attempted shortcut to show that Emily and Cordell were to each other what the Winchester brothers were to each other; unfortunately, you can't just build that relationship in two episodes. That was really lazy writing, folks.

I'm well aware that lots of people are watching for the attractive men on the show, but Jeff Pierre suddenly whipping his shirt off for precisely no reason was...yeah.

I'd also like them to ease up on the "virtually every character is one Pope away from Sainthood, which is just as well because Walker is a functional moron" thing that's going on at the minute, because it's becoming uncomfortable to watch. One of the things that impressed me about the pilot was that it looked like they were building Walker into an interesting but flawed character - I would very much like to see that develop into something more than "drives and shoots well, can see a hoofprint and assume a horse is in the vicinity, but apparently did nothing for his children, has zero concern about his partner's employment prospects and is so emotionally detached from his family he forgets to go for lunch with his brother". None of those things are related to grief; they've just made it a fact that Emily did everything for the kids PRIOR to her death, that him being seen as top dog is more important than asking his new partner to let him work a case when he's not legally an officer, and that despite being fully and totally aware of the conflict his grief has created in his own family, simply finds more important things to do than reconnect with them. All of the characters have the potential to stand on their own as interesting, complete people - I'd like the writers to embrace that without making Walker the epicentre of every problem.

Finally, Lindsey Morgan - still 10/10. Extra shouts out to Molly Hagan and Mitch Pillegi, who are really believable and enjoyable to watch as parents and grandparents.

Casper the Friendly Ghost
Johnny_West19 February 2021
Adrienne Padelecki is Jared Padelecki's wife, and she plays Walker's dead wife Emily in a few flashbacks and also visions where Walker sees her ghost smiling at him. Why did they have to kill Walker's wife in the pilot episode? It seems pointless, except that this show wants to be about family drama, and it is not about action, police, crime, or anything related to the original Walker, Texas Ranger.

The endless rehashing of Emily's death by Walker got old in the pilot episode, but this time there is a lot more of the same. The drama queen daughter, played by Violet Brinson is crying and throwing little fits every time she is on screen. Wow, this show is really hard to watch.

Walker's mother is played by Molly Hagan, and it turns out she was fooling around on Mitch Pelligi at some point when Walker was gone for a year after his wife died. Just drama on top of drama. Walker's brother is gay and in a committed relationship with an Asian guy. Walker's partner is in a relationship with an African-American guy. I guess they had to touch all the possible politically correct scenarios?

Jared Padelecki seems unable to be the lead character. He got lazy during 15 years of Supernatural, when Jensen Ackles was always yelling and bossing everyone around. Now Jared is being bossed by Coby Bell as his supervisor, and Lindsey Morgan who plays his partner, Ramirez. She seems to think of Walker as some kind of a loser, since he does everything wrong.

Chuck Norris as the original Walker, was a top Texas Ranger. By comparison, Jared Padelecki cannot pass his annual State of Texas Law Enforcement certification. New Walker is legally an uncertifiable, incompetent Police Officer / Ranger. The writers of this show have gone too far to show the new Walker as a total loser, whose family life is a train wreck too.

Walker is a badass!
hyper_active-5732429 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fantastic I don't even know where to start. Walker trying to do better is such a good message. People make mistakes. Parents make mistakes but you learn from them, you grow. Again this show is tackling important issues! Like Stella sitting out the game for Isabel due to the coach unfairly punishing Isabel more than Stella. Bringing up white privilege and letting it be known it exists and it's not okay! That brother scene! Damn, that was intense, can we submit scenes for awards now because that's my choice. Jared and Keegan owned that scene. Walker trying to make up with his kids warmed my heart. When he texted Stella I melted. And let's not forget about that badass scene between my Queen Micki and cowboy Walker! When he threw her on the back of that horse! Whew had me yelping. Loved loved loved it.

If you didn't like the first episode, you might want to give it a chance
dianessajcnd29 January 2021
The pace of this episode was much better, we get to know the characters a lot better, there's action and there's drama, the relationships, especially between father and his son and daughter are being explored in much more depth, and it just seems that it will keep getting better and better every episode

Slight improvement that is still intriguing
ryanaltfillisch3 February 2021
I liked this episode slightly better than the pilot, but still keeping it at a 7. Everything I liked from the pilot is still here in this episode (good chemistry, good acting), but the story was a slight improvement. It's still a little slow, but I'm hoping with some of the questions answered in this episode, there will be different things to explore going forward. It's still not a perfect show, but I'm looking forward to see what they can do with this show.

Tired premise. Leathal Weapon did it better (both the movie and tv version)
kstrader-6541215 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Feels like they are remaking Leathal Weapon, with less talented actors, writers and directors. And they don't even give us something to laugh at (barring much of the serious dialogue). They're just trying to hard to be contemporary they're forgetting a good premise (which this isn't) needs equally good development. At this point they are equally shallow.

Another great episode, already the first twists in the storyline, which makes the story interesting and I can't believe how much I'm already invested in the characters. Great storytelling and great acting.

The Five is for Ramirez

So far the only thing I like about this show is Ramirez. She really contrasts Walker in that she has a personality and is interesting. Still not sure what the plot is but I think it's just Cop Show

silopez-0364729 January 2021
It works for me. Amazing performances good writing. The plot has a lot of potential and the cast has all the skills to make the show shine. More action scenes but not kicking any ass May be it would a 9 but so many reviews with a hidden agenda made change my opinion

I absolutely loved this episode! Seeing Walker with his kids feels very relatable to me and my own dad. I think the actors really brought it tonight and I really enjoyed watching them. I can't wait to find out what happens next week.
