When Chris Wedge's animated film "Ice Age" first came out in 2002, it was considered novel and striking for many reasons. It was set in prehistoric times yet eschewed dinosaurs in favor of megafauna living in the Pleistocene Epoch. The three main characters were a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), a smilodon named Diego (Denis Leary), and a mammoth named Manfred aka Manny (Ray Romano), and they were engaged in a great migration to flee the oncoming Ice Age. The plot of their first movie apes John Ford's 1946 Western "3 Godfathers," as the three animals discover a human infant that they must keep safe and deliver back to the then-evolutionarily-novel homo sapiens living nearby.
The design of "Ice Age" was striking, aiming for broad, stylized characters that were markedly different from the friendly, big-eyed protagonists of Disney pictures. It certainly helped that the "Ice Age" movies featured a character named Scrat,...

“Hocus Pocus 3” is casting its spell.
Following Sunday’s announcement that the Disney+ sequel from last fall is now getting a sequel of its own, TheWrap has learned that film’s director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D’Angelo will be returning to the witchy franchise.
The news of a new “Hocus Pocus” sequel, after last year’s surprisingly enjoyable follow-up to the 1993 Disney classic, came during a profile of Walt Disney Studios president Sean Bailey in The New York Times. Bailey confirmed that there was another film in development — although, at the time, not much else was known.
It’s currently unclear, for instance, if original stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker will be back for “Hocus Pocus 3,” or if other actors from the first film who skipped “Hocus Pocus 2” will return for the new movie. Another looming question: whether the new movie will go straight...

“Deadpool 3” just added two key returning cast members to its roster, according to sources close to the project. Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna will reprise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio, joining Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool’s love interest who was fridged and then un-fridged during “Deadpool 2”) in the Shawn Levy-directed sequel.
Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine, joining franchise newbies Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen. Also returning from earlier films will be Karan Soni (Wade Wilson’s preferred cab driver), Leslie Uggams (Wade’s blind roommate), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus) and Rob Delaney (as entirely human X-Force member Peter who was also un-killed at the end of “Deadpool 2”).
The picture, slated for release on November 8, 2024, will be the first in the franchise to be put out by Disney and be produced by Kevin Fiege’s Marvel Studios. While it is expected to keep the...

What began as an unlikely friendship between three misfit creatures — a sloth, a mammoth believing he was the last of his kind and a saber-toothed tiger that doesn’t want to be violent — in “Ice Age” (2002) has stretched into a storied saga of the trio’s journey through all kinds of realms as warming slowly melts their world across five “Ice Age” movies and one spinoff.
The three friends are brought together by a human baby, whose mother drowns after saving him from saber-toothed tigers trying to hunt her and her child. Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) and Manny the mammoth (Ray Romano) find the child, and Diego the sabertooth (Denis Leary) joins them on their quest to return him to his father, abandoning his own pack who hunted the kid in the first place.

Was Disney right to pay 71 billion for Fox’s entertainment empire? The sprawling properties it brought in-house helped fuel Disney+ and have given returning CEO Bob Iger a much-needed box office hit with “Avatar: The Way of Water” as he settles back into his old chair.
But investors are scrutinizing spending much more closely than they used to. Disney still carries a hefty debt load from the Fox deal and Iger’s rebound tenure has a time limit as he searches once again for a successor.
As adult-skewing movies struggle in theaters and Wall Street changes the rules in the streaming war, Disney’s purchase of Fox’s studio properties may prove to be Iger’s biggest blunder, dealing lasting damage to the company’s reputation among shareholders for media-merger magic. From the very start, “Ice Age” transported audiences to a world of enchantment and hilarity. It has since become one of the most beloved and top-grossing animated franchises in cinematic history.
It’s easy to see why due to its thrilling adventures, lighthearted humor, meaningful messages, and iconic characters like Sid (John Leguizamo), Manny (Ray Romano), Ellie (Queen Latifah), Diego (Denis Leary), Shira (Jennifer Lopez) and Scrat(Chris Wedge).
The 2002 blockbuster hit “Ice Age” marked the pioneering, feature-length debut of Blue Sky Studios. This success spawned a series of Ice Age films and short animations that extended beyond the original story while introducing lovable new characters to viewers worldwide.
Unfortunately, Blue Sky Studios was forced to close its doors in 2021 after Disney acquired their former distribution partner 20th Century Fox. The good news is that Disney remains committed to continuing the beloved “Ice Age” saga, so fans can expect more...

“Ozark” audiences have proven that time stolen can also be time well-spent: the Netflix crime thriller starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, snatched over 4 billion viewing minutes for the week of Jan. 24 through 30. Per Nielsen Analytics, Season 4 of “Ozark” has hit the fourth-highest streaming total ever— “Tiger King” had hit 5.3 billion followed up with a 4.4 billion minute week in 2020, and “Ozark” cinched 5.2 billion during the week of March 30, 2020.
Viewership for “Ozark” was evenly split between male and female viewers, which tends to be unusual for streaming content. 60% of “Ozark’s” audience was between the ages of 35-64, 20% of the audience was aged 18-34 and the rest were adults aged over 65.
Other winners of the last week of January were Disney Plus’ “Encanto,” which snuck under “Ozark” on the Nielsen Top 10 SVOD list for overall streaming programming with 1.36 million minutes watched, and No. 1 on the weekly movies list. “Encanto...

Hmmm, is 2022 turning out to be a twenty-year anniversary celebration for several beloved film franchises? Could be. After all. the year started a tad early for the still-formidable box-office juggernaut, Spider-man: No Way Home, which arrived with two weeks left of the previous year, and about six months ahead of that first web-head feature’s 20th this May. And just last weekend Disney+ hosted the latest animated outing, The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild, the sixth in the series that started two months before Spidey. Now, these flicks are pretty “family-friendly”.Not one entry in this series could ever be trimmed to meet anything but an “R” rating (many would say a “hard R”). So, heed that “black-screened-backed disclaimer/warning” for the sake of yourself and your loved ones (and anybody nearby) because those deranged daredevil doofuses as back in Jackass Forever.

So yes, like that previous flick, this animated outing will bypass theatres and “drop” on a popular platform. Oh, and there are several other big comparisons that we’ll discuss later. And did I mention that this one somewhat celebrates the 20th anniversary of the franchise?...

Strong-willed audiences who didn’t tap out of the “Ice Age” franchise after the first two films were rewarded with the memorable introduction of swashbuckling one-eyed weasel Buck Wild in “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.” The heroic and humorous Indiana Jones-esque character was a breath of fresh air for the series and its well-established group dynamic, aiding in the Paleolithic ragtag family’s quest to survive dangerous circumstances. Yet in director John C. Donkin’s stand-alone feature for Disney Plus, “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild,” the intrepid adventurer is done a disservice. Instead of delivering a sensational serialized spin-off that would complement the captivating character, the filmmakers have misguidedly fashioned a subpar sequel.
Part of the problem is that the story’s sole focus isn’t on the titular hero. Donkin and screenwriters Jim Hecht, Will Schifrin and Ray DeLaurentis anchor their tale to the series...

The “Ice Age” series began in 2002 with Ice Age, a mildly entertaining if not completely forgettable film which told the story of three unlikely friends trying to survive an extinction event with one another. The film starred Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, and Denis Leary as Diego. It was a hit and a franchise blossomed.

Very few franchises that have been running for two decades can say they've had the benefit of the same steady hands guiding the ship the whole way. But that is indeed something the "Ice Age" series can claim, as producers Lori Forte and John C. Donkin have been there since the first movie in 2002, and haven't departed since. Even following the Disney/Fox merger, they've stayed put to help guide the family-friendly flicks into the streaming age with "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild."

The "Ice Age" franchise has, rather amazingly, been around for just shy of 20 years. What started as a fairly straightforward movie has since blossomed into a series that not only won't quit, but is now expanding into spin-off territory under Disney's leadership, potentially paving the way for many more installments to come. The first of these installments is upon is in the form of "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild." As the title implies, it centers on the character of Buck, voiced by Simon Pegg.

A new “Ice Age” movie is on the way, but this one’s heading directly to streaming.

"It's a bad time for a tropical vacation." 20th Century / Disney+ have debuted the full-length official trailer for an animated sequel titled The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, arriving in January. We posted the first teaser just a few months ago. The first Ice Age opened in 2002, then they made four mediocre sequels, most recently Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016. Blue Sky Studios shut down after Disney bought Fox and the pandemic finished them off for good. But they're still keeping the franchise going. Get ready for another wacky prehistoric comedy! The fearless one-eyed weasel Buck teams up with mischievous possum brothers Crash & Eddie as they head off to Buck's home – The Dinosaur World. Simon Pegg is back as the voice of Buck, joined by Vincent Tong as Crash, Aaron Harris as Eddie, & Utkarsh Ambudkar as Orson. This looks barely good enough for direct-to-tv, rehashing these characters when they...

Carrying on with the Disney+ goody bag, Disney has debuted the trailer for the Cinderella reimaging ‘Sneakerella.’
Set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City, the film introduces El (Jacobs), an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother.
El hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers who constantly stomp on any opportunity that comes his way. When El meets Kira King (Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of the legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (Salley), sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers. With a little nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent to pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry.
