Although a lot of Adrian Edmondson's interview is clearly pre-planned (including crashing through a fake wall), his use of the word "bollocks" is, as he notes, not something that would normally be aired in the timeslot, with Edmondson taking advantage of the show's live status.
The day after this episode aired, the Daily Mirror printed a somewhat mean-spirited story about Terry and his show.
Columnist Garth Gibbs wrote (16th November 1985): "TERRY WOGAN's large ego is at last taking a few knocks. Both Joan Collins and Dudley Moore, two of the best chat show guests, are boycotting the Irishman. Despite pleas from the podgy Wogan's camp, they have both opted for Des O'Connor. There could be no greater insult. Quite simply, we are told, the Terry Wogan show is getting above itself. Joan is in London next week for the Royal Variety Show on November 25. Dudley flies in for the European premier of his film Santa Claus. They can expect a "safe" time with Des with none of the stinging barbs in which Mr Wogan specialises. The Irishman is said to be "deeply upset" at losing the two stars. Good."
